Its going to be close... reaaallly close.. like.. 3 teams within 5 or 10 points close.. but it all comes down to who picks up the points that they arent expect to pick up..  right now.. i think helena has the best chance.. but.. looking at stats alone.. i think its going to come down to magnolia and camden again in the mile relay.. i actually think the difference at this track meet will be the distance events.. with shawn alexander from magnolia.. camden's 800 guy.. and helena's boyce.. i think thats his name.. correct me if im wrong.. its going to be an exciting meet.. but here are my predictions as of right now..

Magnolia
Helena
Camden
Alma
Batesville
Hot Springs

I think camden and helena could switch easy... just as magnolia and helena or magnolia and camden will.. but i don't believe anyone outside of the top 3 has much of a chance.. even with the likes of Mason or hot springs great distance

One more thing.. how bout the Southwest conference qualifying 5 in the 800... 5th place was a low 2 02.. I remember when I qualified as a freshman.. I ran a 2 10.. lol that would have placed 12 or so.. crazy stuff

No one has to prediction on who will win 6A because everyone knows FC will win.

Any predictions on who will win the 5A boys State Championship Tuesday?
[/quote]

I don't think u can hand it to FC just like that; u also have the likes of Lake Hamilton and Texarkana who will be there too

We'll see.  Blytheville beat Batesville at district last week.  I'm interested in seeing how all our freshmen and sophomores do today.

I agree because of the 5a splitting up to two different conferences. It gives other teams a chance to put up more points than they would if the conferences wouldn't of have split up. I still think FC will win if a healthy Houston and Mitchell show up. From what I hear they will be here. Lake Hamilton and FC will be the top two, because of the lack of distance runners on the texarkana team. The 100, 200, and mile will be the races to see. I'm thinking the winner of the mile will go sub 4:20

Is this Boomer? Dude Kyle told me at conference you might come to UALR w/ us?  You need to hop on that and check on getting in one of those news apartments w/ us & one other kid.  And I said their #3 but i was wrong your # 3 is also in the 22's so my bad.
yea i think i'm going to go ahead and sign there i visited them last week and i like the campus and the new apartments so i'm leanin towards being a trojan too.

Just spoke with a sports reporter from the Hot Springs Sentinel who confirmed that the Magnolia boys won the State 5A meet again this year.  I don't have all the details as I was not there.  But, someone from Magtown will post the results shortly.

Congrats Panthers!  If my history and memory are right, this is the first time a Panthers sport team has won back to back titles since the basketball team, lead by the great Greg Alexander, won titles in 1974 & 1975.  Great job by the Panthers as they bounced back nicely from a one point loss to Fairview in the SW Meet last week.

Alright.. this is how it played out..

at one time... helena had a 14 point lead over magnolia.. going into the mile.. with shawn alexander.. we gained 4 points with his 2nd place finish.. over their 7th place.. we split points in the 300 hurdles... and i do believe lost a couple points in the 400.. then.. in the 800... shawn came BIG again with a 3rd place finish .. moving us within 8.. going to the 200.. then.. our record setting sophomore sprinter ( who set the record earlier in the 100, running a 10.6).. blew by in the 200.. giving us a 2 point lead..

as all of this way happening.. Matt Mason was bringing Alma right back into it.. by the start of the mile relay.. the scores were Magnolia- 101, Helena-98, Alma-98...

Go figure, we were all in the last heat, and you know Magnolia wasn't going to give up two places to anyone. I do believe they ran a 3:23, with Alexander as last leg.. Helena got second.. and Alma.. i believe.. got 4th..

Mag-111
Helena- 106
Alma- 103.. if they got 4th

One thing that kind of bothered me... right after the race.. the last leg from helena threw his baton about... 30 feet into the air.. and they didn't get DQed.. but oh well..

Congrats Magnolia on our first back-to-back since they 70s! Scary thing is, we are only losing 20 points, so, maybe, a 3-peat?

MHSGrad

one more thing.. how bout those two mile relay times.. 8 05 and 8 06.. helena edged out alma.. just thought id add that in.. that was quite impressive!

Another thing.. congrats to alma.. you came up and surprised the crap out of a lot of people.. without many sprints.. yall put together a very good track meet.. i just wish yall could have pulled 2nd..

Fat Money

The relay team from Helena-West Helena Central was DQ'd moments after the race because the young man running the last leg threw the baton after crossing the finish line.

i see that in the finals.. cobbs ran a 10.8 in the finals.. but in the prelims.. he ran a 10.6... breakin the previous record of 10.8

MHSPANTHERS

Bluedog, thanks for posting those results.  I saw them in the ADG earlier today.  Did anyone notice the results from the 800 Meter Dash were omitted by the ADG. (Or am I overlooking something?)

I do know that Magnolia's, S. Alexander, placed 3rd but I have not seen his time or the others who placed.  Anyone have this info.?

Wow; the overall and Meet of Champs record for the 100 is 10.54.  Cobb will have a chance to break this as he is only a sophomore. Also, he broke L. Harris' school record of 10.74 set in 2003 if he ran this fast. This young man is something special.

What is ADG?  And yea, im from Helena and i still think the title was still in our grasp.  I just wonder what would have happened if our sprinters didnt jog 1/2 the 200m thinking they would get into the finals & produced 200m times @ state like their conference times, if they didnt have a bad handoff on the 4x1, if our best long jumper would have been able to jump or if I could have done better.  I guess ill never know. CONGRATULATION Magnolia cuz yall ran great.

Congratulations FC!  I knew yall were going to win all along.  Who all (individual and relays) are going to the Meet of Champs from your team?

For indoor, 5A, 6A, and 7A are combined. How will Magnolia do in that environment?

I believe the panthers will 10 times harder to beat indoors

The winner of the 1A shot put event is listed as follows:

SHOT PUT 1. Kevis Patrick, School for the Blind, 44-03.50

I don't mean to be politically incorrect or ask an obvious question, but are all student athletes at School for the Blind visually impaired?

If this young man is either fully or legally blind, it's an even greater accomplishment and sounds like a great story.

jacketpride07

Johny Purvis is beast. So is Denesha Henderson.

UALR11

It's been a heck of a year for Arkansas.  In every event we could compete nationally.  Congrats to everyone and hope to see you at the MOC.

P.S.  Rattler.... I finally found a glimmer of my old form, and it couldn't have come at a better time;).  Good Luck Today.

Congratulations FC!  I knew yall were going to win all along.  Who all (individual and relays) are going to the Meet of Champs from your team?

All relays made it to the Meet of Champs all with Houston in the 800 and mile run. Mitchell made it in the 200 and Walker made it in the shot put. I'm not sure if houston will run the 800 or mile. I know that all the seniors want that outdoor 4x4 record, so they probably won't run anything ,but that 4x4 and maybe 1 other event. I wish the real 4x8 would run at the meet of champs it would be a heck of a race between us again. I don't think it will happen though its only one thing on Houston, Ross, Mitchell, and Jones mind and thats is that record set by Mitchell Father's 4x4 team.

All students at ASB or either blind or visually impaired.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to stay at ASB and work with the students in the summer program and I came away with a tremendous amount of respect for the students.  The majority of the students were fearless, willing to try anything at least once.  We took a group through the ropes course at the 4-H center in Little Rock and I was totally amazed.  Since most of them could not see the obstacles and did not know which way to go, we talked them through the course.  Can you imagine standing on a tiny platform, 30 feet in the air, with a person below you saying, "the next platform is to your left, about 4 feet away, now jump".  The kids trusted us completely and did not hesitate to make the jump.  It was an awesome experience.

Just want to send out a big congratulations to Coach Willis and the Forrest City track team.  You guys make us proud.  ;D

It's been a heck of a year for Arkansas.  In every event we could compete nationally.  Congrats to everyone and hope to see you at the MOC.

P.S.  Rattler.... I finally found a glimmer of my old form, and it couldn't have come at a better time;).  Good Luck Today.
sry to bust ur bubble. but my old 2a school in texas has ran better times in nearly every event than this. JFYI the Tatum Eagles from east texas 2a track state champs. here some of the times just off the top of my head. D.Moore 110 hurdles 13.69, 300 hurdles 36.99, 23 ft 7 in long jump. Casha Pollard 110 hurdles14.5. 400m relay 41.8. 1600m relay 3:20 or 3:19. D.Simmons 400m 48.8. those are some times that blow away some of arkansas best times.

The young man you speak of is visually impaired.  He is quite an athlete from what I have seen.  If i'm not mistaken he won state two years ago as a sophmore in this same event from what I was told.  I commend the coach of this young man for putting him on display for people to see his talent.

I don't remember saying we could hang with Texas.  Texas, California, New York and New Jersey are in a league of their own.  I mean at their 5A meet there were 7 national number 1 times ran.  The kid from 2A with the 13.69 was the fastest out of every class in Texas this year and I got 2nd in our 6A state meet and would have finished 4th in the highest class in Texas.  We can hang closer to states like Missouri this year though who are usually strong for their size.  Last year we couldn't hold a candle to Missouri.  Take it for what its worth but we are ALOT better then we have been in the past couple year, national leaders in boys pole vault and top 5 in long jump.  A nike indoor national all american(and our first ever) in the 5000 from Lake Hamilton.  It's been a good year

I cant wait to see magnolia vs. fc at the meet of champs in the 4x400.. Magnolia was basically taking a victory lap.. and still ran a 3 24.. with fc pushing them.. and vise versa.. 3 19 might be very reachable for both teams.. good luck to both.. and to cobbs in the 100.. hope to see a 10.4 by 09!

Also, congrats to Prescott. The south, for the most part, was very impressive at all the state meets, except 7A, because we really don't have anyone lol. Good to all at the MOC!!!

I'll be the one screamin for the panthers in every event

This may be from state meets, but I think that their is a guy from Ashdown that has thrown much farther than that in the shot.

1600 4:25.31 second fastest
3200 9:40.30 second fastest

15 out of 17 events 7A has the best or second best times and distances in the state based on what they ran at conference!

I didnt completely analyze all of the events listed, but just by glancing, i can see the 4x8 (8:10) is the 3rd fastest (not 2nd), and the 1600 (4:25) is the 3rd fastest (not 2nd & would have been 4th if the Jasper kid was added)

Yeah 7A looks good this year!! Lets compare 7A vs. 6A,5A, and 4A

Shot Put 53-6 longest recorded distance
Discus 169-4 longest recorded distance
High Jump 6-6 Tied with 4A for the highest
Long Jump  22-8 second longest
Triple Jump 45-1 second longest
Pole Vault 14-6 tied for second longest
400 relay 42.44 fastest time
1600 relay 3:23.47 fastest time
3200 relay 8:10.28 second fastest
110 hurdles 14.85 third fastest
300 hurdles 39.69 second fastest
100 10.86 third fastest
200 22.14 second fastest
400 49.44 fastest time
800 1:56.12 fastest time
1600 4:25.31 second fastest
3200 9:40.30 second fastest

15 out of 17 events 7A has the best or second best times and distances in the state based on what they ran at conference!

This may be from state meets, but I think that their is a guy from Ashdown that has thrown much farther than that in the shot.
His name is Andrew Cornilious. His farthest throw was in Prescott, 55' 8".

did anyone see the reclassification numbers for 2008?! Sylvan hills and FC will be 5A! What a state track meet 5A will have next year with the likes of a camden, FC, Magnolia, Alma, and West Helena!!!

The southwest conference is losing Arkadelphia and Malvern.. so I don't know who we are going to pick up..

Oh.. and JA Fair will be 6A.. what will the southwest conference be made of!?!?!?!?!

chsrunner

where did you see that at?  and i thought the classifications lasted through 2008.

Yeah 7A looks good this year!! Lets compare 7A vs. 6A,5A, and 4A

Shot Put 53-6 longest recorded distance
Discus 169-4 longest recorded distance
High Jump 6-6 Tied with 4A for the highest
Long Jump  22-8 second longest
Triple Jump 45-1 second longest
Pole Vault 14-6 tied for second longest
400 relay 42.44 fastest time
1600 relay 3:23.47 fastest time
3200 relay 8:10.28 second fastest
110 hurdles 14.85 third fastest
300 hurdles 39.69 second fastest
100 10.86 third fastest
200 22.14 second fastest
400 49.44 fastest time
800 1:56.12 fastest time
1600 4:25.31 second fastest
3200 9:40.30 second fastest

15 out of 17 events 7A has the best or second best times and distances in the state based on what they ran at conference!
The 100 is the sixth fastest time, 200 is the 4th, 400 is the second, 4x4 and the 4x8 is the third.
