This town and area has been producing professional quality athletes for a long time.  Bernice and Summerfield each have a top 25 all time NBA players.  Those same family members still live in this community.  Excellent genes helps.  When Bolen was here, it was high quality baseball players.  Now, it's more towards football.

Funny thing happens when I mention Bernice or Summerfield.

Not NBA, but when it comes to towns near JC where noted high school players played, DI left out Marion, LA (near Huttig, AR for those who aren't familiar with the area).

National High School Record for Most PPG in a Season:

54.0    Bobby Joe Douglas    LA    (Marion), 1979-80 (2,052/38)

BJD could light up a high school gym.  He once scored 36 in a quarter and 77 in a game.

I still hear folks talk about his games at Dual State.

Wasn't there a couple JC kids picked up by MLB straight out of high school in the early 90's?

Doesn't match your question, but Vince Holyfield was taken in the third round as the 70th pick in 1985 by the Philadelphia Phillies by way of SAU.

Is Vince related to current JC QB Randall?

Baseball Reference only shows two drafted straight out of high school and they played in the 80s:  CLICK HERE

Frankin was drafted by the Pirates after his Sr year. . Glover the Cards after his Sr season in 89. . i can't think of any other JC players drafted to MLB other than those 3
. if Godfrey hadn't gotten into a little trouble while at Texarkana JC he would of been another. .but he was a bit of a risk because of that and a couple of injuries that year

That was Jarkell Brown, two years ago.  TDN(tim) took one and gave it to me in an 8x10 to give to his dad.

bleu I thought that meant something else. Another thing new tires aren't a upgrade.... ;D

Wilson

About the only way to upgrade from a G-6 Is to buy a private 737 . . and I'm not footing the bill to upgrade my runway to accommodate the extra weight and added length for takeoff

With expansion to South La., a pay raise and a assistant. I think it's time to spend a little money...

Wilson

Have to have more flash money and bribe money for south Louisiana . . different price to get in the game down along I-10
