Final.

Brookland controlled the tempo the whole game, limiting Southside to just 25 FG attempts. Southerners turned it over 9 times in the opening half, falling behind 21-16 at halftime for a deficit that proved too much to overcome.

Westside finally figured out Brooklandís defensive strategy from the previous game, and forward Jordan Rockers had a field day with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Avery Felts didnít score until late in the third and finished with 7 points, but he contributed 14 rebounds and 5 assists. Bearcats settled for outside shots, finishing 3/23 on 3-point attempts.

I honestly don't think Highland missed a single shot in the 1st quarter. They are a well coached team. Batesville is just methodical, they just keep coming at you. They are not flashy or loud, they just don't let up. You watch them and the game is close, then they go up by 4, then 8 and then you look up and the lead is 20. It's funny, they rarely have a player score huge numbers. It's usually 4 or 5 scoring 12. If Highland has a lot of players coming back they could do some damage but from what I've seen this year Batesville is a machine.

Kalifa Ford was the difference with 21 points for Brookland, which took an 18-17 halftime lead with a 7-0 run and rode the momentum from there. Lady Bearcats also played some of their best defense of the year.

Blytheville played probably their best game since going 2-0 in Fayettevilleís tournament in early December, putting five players in double figures. The Chickasaws were solid on defense everywhere but inbound plays under VVís bucket, forcing the Blazers into 19 turnovers. Winston Peace double-double of 11-11 for the Chicks.

Here is the remaining schedule, with the boys and girls finals each featuring fourth meetings between the two teams (twice in league play, once in the Northeast Arkansas Invitational). The top-ranked Lady Pioneers have three double-digit victories over the Lady Bearcats, although Brookland gave Batesville a pretty good effort in the most recent contest. Westside's three victories over Blytheville consist of two double-digit conference wins sandwiching a barn-burner in the NEA semifinals.

Then why play the game Saturday?

Because thatís how a tournament works. Someone will win, therefore becoming a ďchampionĒ.

The winner is the #1 seed in regionals. The runner-up will be the #2 seed in regionals. This has been laid out in about 3 different threads now.

I honestly don't think Highland missed a single shot in the 1st quarter. They are a well coached team. Batesville is just methodical, they just keep coming at you. If Highland has a lot of players coming back they could do some damage but from what I've seen this year Batesville is a machine.
Highland started trying to slow tempo in the 2nd quarter and got away from what they do and the more this team passes the ball around the more the turnovers start to mount. Not that Highland was going to beat Batesville, you cannot slow them down you have to have transition defense and put the ball in your scorers hands and shoot open shots. Driving in the lane shooting contested shots is what gets Highland in trouble. This team is barely over .500 in their last 15 games. #3 and #00 have to have more shoots when the game is close for this team to win.  Trying to shoot forced shots when your down 20 points is not the time to rely on your best players. Need your best players shooting shots when the game is manageable!! Be tough for Highland to go past the Regionals playing the style they have changed to!

Brookland and valley view lost last night. Since there is no third place game, the higher seed takes the 3rd seed into regional and the lower seed takes the 4th.

IF either valley view or Brookland would have won last night they would have assured themselves either a 1 or 2 seed by virtue of playing in the district championship game. But neither were able to win.

The only seeding left to determine now is the #1 & #2 seed representing the 3-4A next week at Highland.

Yes, of the two District tourney semifinal losers the one with the best regular season conference record gets the #3 seed for regionals.

Because thatís determined by coaches before the season starts. It also gives all teams a chance to make it to the Regional Tournament while rewarding the top teams with automatic bids to regionals.

The winner of Blytheville and Westside will do themselves a BIG favor come next week. Forrest City doesnít seem to be on the same level of the other 3 teams in 5-4A.

I think itíll be good game. Westside has won all 3 this year, but itíll be a heckuva feat to win the 4th.

Forrest City has the potential though. They won at McClellan earlier in the year and played Mills very close at home. Beat ESTEM as well.

Havenít heard much about them.

Iíve seen them extensively the past three postseasons. They have a 4-year starter at PG and more good guards in the backcourt, but their most dangerous weapon is probably 6-8 big man Kevin Cross. Heís more than likely the best big man in Class 4A. Theyíve got a lot back from last yearís 5A runner-up finish, and PG McCrary was a starter for their 5A title team two years ago.

Brookland girls legit holding the ball at half court and not moving with 5 min left in the half. So pathetic.

Brookland girls held the ball at half court down by one with 5 min left in the first half. Held it for the last shot.

I liked the strategy. Batesville has a lot of depth and a few of Brooklandís players are banged up. They should be rested up for the 2nd half.

for all those that argue on the side of stalling being a tactic to give yourself a chance to win, I say get your kids in the gym and make them more proficient on offense. Holding the ball and not trying to score is ridiculous.

I'm going to guess that your favorite college basketball coach is Dean Smith circa 1981

It's weak. Not even playing basketball. Just standing there holding it. Batesville won't allow that this half. I guess if you lose to the same team by 20-30 points 3 times you have to get desperate and pathetic.
