Job search is not close to being over.  I haven't talked to Vaughn personally for a few days, but he is not a lock for the job.  Yes, he wants it, but not sure that he will get it.  It's not a done deal that he will go to Cabot either.  I hear other schools maybe in play.

Of course Vaughn will get it. El Dorado is just doing the simple interviews like they normally do. In order to keep Vaughn at El Dorado they know they will have to promote him otherwise they will be trying to find a replacement for him. I say El Dorado will have a head coach by end of the month.

I am Vaughn. I'm Rick the WILD-THING VAUGHN.

No, I am not Coach Vaughn. I know how the system is at El Dorado. Vaughn wants the El Dorado job but he knows El Dorado has to go through the regular interview system to cover their basis. Vaughn has been with Reed since Forrest City maybe before than. It's interesting to know that Panter who also was under Reed at Forrest City came to El Dorado as well and ended up leaving for Magnolia. Reed leaves El Dorado, Panter leaves Magnolia to be Cabot's DC. Knowing all of this, it makes me believe that Vaughn will either get the head coaching job at El Dorado, if he doesn't he is going to Cabot.  It makes sense. I hate to see Vaughn not get his shot as a head coach because I think he would be wonderful as a head coach. Reed has departed El Dorado football in great hands and didn't leave a struggling program, I think Vaughn takes over and will go with what was built under Reed but will add his own adjustments to it.

El Dorado is a dying program.  Just face the facts.  I was at the game this year in ED.  There were tons of ED fans sitting on the Greenwood side of the field.   Either they are too embarrassed of their program, OR they wanted to feel what it's like to be a Bulldog fan.  Either way, ED is on the downward spiral.  Is it any wonder their coach jumped ship?

Their fans along with other schools have done that for years.  Some look forward to seeing the opposing team fans.  Over the years friendships are built, friendly competition, etc.

Shows you how much you really know about El Dorado football. El Dorado has been doing that since Coach Register days that fans would often go sit on the vistor side on some of the home games. It's not a dying program, I really laughed out loud over this. Scott Reed took over a program that was struggling and turned it around, went the state championship his second year and ended up winning three in the row, and came back a won it again in 2013. Reed loved El Dorado, if the Cabot job wasn't open he would still be the coach at El Dorado. Reed built something at El Dorado, whoever gets the program is getting it in good hands. So El Dorado is not a dying program as you may think. El Dorado travels very well when they play away.

All i see is:
1)  Coach jumps ship
2)  ED fans on GW side of the field, covering their face in shame
3)  ED looking like a scrub team on the field.

Seems to me that ED is a dying program.   If they win 5 games this year I'll be shocked.

Every team goes through transitions, El Dorado is one of the best programs in state of Arkansas, 9 state championships, numerous conference championships, countless playoffs appearances.  Just facts.  El Dorado has so much talent, every year. Sleep on them if you would like.  Coach Reed and his family loved El Dorado, that wasn't an easy decision for him to leave.  But if you have to opportunity to go home coach and then retire, why not.   Not anything but respect for him and wish him success, just not when they play the Cats!!

I would had thought you would be better at trolling. You kinda suck at this. You only been to 1 El Dorado game and making your opinion based on that. Typical Greenwood fan

Jokes is a young coach but he can win at a 2A program. JC has kids from Louisiana. El Dorado wonít. The talent level at JC and El Dorado is different. It will be harder for him to win in the 6A west. El Dorado issues are with Benton and Greenwood.

He will have the largest senior class in program history, as well as very possibly the most talented class to come through there (incoming sophomores....haven't lost since pee wee).
More depth too. No one playing both ways.
This team is fully loaded to win big right away.
I fully expect to compete for a state  championship immediately.
That's always the expectation and he knows this. Otherwise he would not have this job.

ONE of Eldo's big issue the last 4 years has been injuries(the other was QB play). Not sure how to control that other than with depth. Best class in recent years was the 2018 graduating class. Loaded on defense but overlooked Searcy. Who's offense did Searcy run that scorched that defense? Oh yeah now I remember

Defense was a huge problem too. Ever since Panter left our defense could not stop a handicapped kid in a wheelchair.

Reed's system was so QB dependent. It was basically a pro style spread. His two sons executed it to perfection, as did Clayton Waldrum and Paul Anzalone.

But you are correct. We have not had the QB play to get where we need to go. Holly had the one year where he was much improved in 2017 from the year before. That team was good enough to get to WMS but we laid an egg against Searcy in the playoffs.

Rida I will own up to it, I was the one that told you that. LOL....I may have been harsh in my expression of his not being "as qualified" as I would have liked, and I still stand behind that. There were a couple of others with recent multiple State Championships in higher classifications, one very recent, that applied. Jones did not even apply. He was approached from what I hear. I am not paid to make those decisions so I hope the board has more info than us little ole keyboard analysts. At the end of the day, Jones has extremely high expectations, and he does not have a probationary period with the fans. He better produce a title soon.

No hard feelings man!  For what it's worth, What I have seen out of his JC teams is very similar to Reed.  Disciplined, well coached, good scheme, and they seem to turn it up come playoff time.
I think he's gonna be a good fit.

My biggest issue with Jones isn't with his coaching style or philosophy. If he will bring that JC work ethic that he actually experienced as a JC player and that "we will not lose" attitude..that's what I want. My biggest question mark is his "in game" coaching ability. I know his teams will be prepared and they will be strong and tough. I know most don't believe me, but it's different in 6A than 2A during a game. And before you jump, that is not a slap in the face of JC or 2A. It's just small school football. In 2A you can be the strongest, fastest and in the best shape and just wear a team down, pound them into submission. That's JC's mantra. They are the strongest, and in the best shape of any 2A team..heck most higher class teams too. They wear you down, then put the game away. You can't do that in 6A. It becomes a coaching duel on Friday nights. 90% of the teams you face are just as athletic as you, just as strong, just as fast...well you get it. The coach has to have a different game plan each week to beat that coach across the field and his scheme. I will use Sheridan for example. On paper and just the eye test, Eldo should never lose to Sheridan (and they haven't). But every dang year Eldo has trouble with them. No way Sheridan should matchup athlete for athlete with Eldo. But their scheme gives Eldo fits. They find mismatches and throw some odd wrinkle at you.  And most coaches will throw a new wrinkle at you every time you meet (especially the other Jones at Greenwwod). You have to adjust on the fly and maybe even make huge adjustments at halftime. I hope Jones' experience at Searcy taught him that. I am pulling for him. I know his parents well and he's a good guy. He deserves it as much as anyone.

I actually agree with you. I mean I'm not knocking Jones over or Junction City.  We all know that Gus Malzahn started in class 2A Hughes and went to Shiloh Christian. We know the Gus story with him and how he got where he was. I don't know how I really feel about this hire if it is true. His a young coach his from South Arkansas and we believe he will stick around forever. However, there will be some tough test that awaits him at El Dorado if this is really true. Right now this is all rumors.

There are procedural differences between message boards and tax payer supported entities when it comes to certain matters.   ::)
