Bentonville West is the team to beat in the 7A West
« on: October 12, 2018, 11:20:58 pm »
This is the most complete team in the 7A West.  Even without their starting QB they are winning in impressive fashion.  Now WJ is running this week and could be back before the game against BHS and the start of the playoffs.  Also their defensive leader could also return for the playoffs.

Team gets better each week and should be a great finish to the season.

I agree when West is healthy they should be the favorite, but the conf title is still going to have to be won at Tiger Stadium.  As long as BHS and FHS win this Fri night (which they both should), then week 10 will be for the 7A West title.

The really good news for West is the schedule sets up great with Heritage and VB left prior to Bville.  Neither game will be close, so they can play WJ as little or much as they want to knock the rust off.  I would be shocked to see him this week, but guessing he'll play some the following week to get some game action.

Looking ahead to the big game, I expect BHS to run the ball a lot to keep the West offense off the field as much as possible.  The key to this game will be the West D, can they step up and make plays?

Can't wait for this one!

Poppycock

centerton’s win at Fayetteville has caused a lot of overhype.  It was a huge win but I believe Fayetteville wins that game 7/10 times.  I’m not discounting the importance of the win, but I think it gives false hope to little brother.

The BHS/Centerton game will come down to play calling.   If the Bentonville coaches don’t try to “out-think” theother side, Tigers should win going away.   If they continue to do what they have been doing though, it could be interesting into the 4th.

However you slice it, Centerton is NOT “the team to beat” in the traditional sense of the phrase.

We must be seeing completely different things when watching these games.  I follow both schools (no kids in HS yet) and I'm not seeing anything yet to convince me BHS has what it takes to win the title.  The offense just flat struggles at times moving the ball consistently.  D is very good and can keep them in games, but can't do it all by themselves.  As for West, the first half against Owasso (all we have to gauge them on when healthy), they were incredible in a tough road game.  Like I said earlier, the West D has holes, but you cannot deny they have the best offense in all of 7A when healthy.

With that said, I still like NLR to repeat.  I do think West might be their biggest threat with their offensive firepower.

BWHS has beaten Fayetteville the last two years.  You might not like the team (keep calling them Centerton) but the reality is they are a good team and have tons of talent and have even more in the 9th and 10th grade.  Plus due to the fact that when people move to Bentonville, a majority of them are moving to the BWHS school zone so expect to see more kids to choose from in the future.

BWHS will compete for some time in the West.

good for Centerton.   As I have stated many times, they do indeed have several talented players but that alone doesn’t win conference championships much less state titles.   Too many holes still on that team to compete for titles in my opinion.   No doubt the future may be bright.  Their current leadership is another hurdle that they will need much more talent/depth to overcome.  Pratt is an embarrassment.  He and the entire “we DESERVE the same things BHS has” attitude from the parents are both shameful.

To me for West the only thing that take some shine off of the Fayetteville win is Bowers wasn't there.   But other than that small aspect they've been impressive since conference play started.

If Jarrett comes back healthy and can play how he did before he went down then West will win the conference outright.  While Bentonville is killing it so far this year in conference play they don't have the offense they had last year and despite the fact that their defense if good I think a healthy west could score enough points to beat them.

As far as state titles goes I'm not sure with them.   They haven't been good against smash mouth teams that run at them inbetween the tackles like Conway did last year.   I'm not sure how much they have improved on that this year.

I will say this for West, I have watched (as an opponent) this group play since these seniors were in 9th grade, and I have to give credit to player development and coaching. This group got physically manhandled as bad as I have ever seen in my life by Harber in 2016 and I said they are several years from being able to at least compete in this conference. Well I was wrong.

Now they do have some talented kids, the only team in 7A West with 2 SEC players, but it's the rest of the players that have developed that give them a shot to beat people. If they do get WJ back this season, and he is healthy, they have a chance to beat anyone but they do have some weaknesses and if those can be exploited, they are vulnerable.

I bet if you asked West parents if they thought they would beat Harber in the next few years after the 2016 game, I am pretty sure all of them would have said no way. Not only because of that game, but also because of what Harber had coming up from the junior high ranks (last year's Harber team was a combined 29-1 over the past 3 years for those kids who played at Central). That just tells me that West has made their players better by developing them once they exit the 9th grade.

Should be a great game on November 2 between BV and West!

Gonna be a cold one tonight, but I'll be there.  I just wish the RHS game meant to these kids what it meant to us.  Regardelss of how things change, there is no team I would rather beat that the Mounties.  Oh, the good ol' days!

Jarrett is playing tonight and looks like he isn't missing a step.  Making several long and accurate throws to JJ.  Defense is also looking really good.

Granted it is the first half and against Heritage.

Jarrett had a nice half for his first game back since late August. He was 11 of 15 for 226 and 3 TDs. Jadon Jackson 4 catches for 117 and all 3 TDs

Nice to see WJ back.  Great kid and really good QB.  I'm sure he'll play a half again next week to prepare for the big week 10 showdown.

With WJ and Bowers both getting healthy, the 7A West looks much better overall.

Looking like the game against BHS in Week 10 will be for the title again.   BWHS defense is getting better with 2 straight shutouts.  That is pretty impressive considering Har-ber who they shut out last week put up 48 points this week and 42 the week before.

The key for this game should be the Tiger Defense controlling the big plays to Jackson and Smallwood.  It seems every time I watch West, their offense is just throwing a go route to JJ or a screen pass to Smallwood and he goes the distance.  If Bentonville expects to win, they'll have to shadow JJ with a safety as the corners have been victimized (see Stuckey, Fayetteville).  Their speed on defense, especially at the LB position, should at least even the matchup with Smallwood out of the backfield.    Do those two things, and pressure WJ, and you have a chance to contain them.  They got to Will last year, despite max protection by West for the first time all year.

Bentonville still the slight edge here IMO, playing (really) at home, and geared up for this matchup of former brothers.   BHS knows HOW to win this time of year and Pratt has never beaten the Tigers at this level.   They were especially effective in a two TE set running the ball up the gut the last few weeks.

I can see West pulling out all the stops - gadget plays, weird formations, etc. - to try to gain the early advantage and step on the Tigers.   Hard to think the Tigers haven't been working on their own set of personnel groups they haven't put on film yet.   Normally they'd break a few of those out against Fayetteville, but that game was pretty standard too.

In a very close one, in front of a huge crowd if the weather cooperates, the Tigers claim the conference title and the first round bye.

Great username, man.
I also like the Tigers, as B[entonville] comes before C[enterton] and I think Bentonville has better coaching.
