Class 7A-6A-5A Playoff Scenarios after Week 8
« on: October 26, 2014, 05:25:54 pm »
I am not claiming 100% accuracy, but I think I am pretty close (my disclaimer). I will update next week as things clear up (or get more muddled).

Class 7A/6A
7A-West

The 6 seeds are set (in no order) – Bentonville, Fayetteville, FS Northside, FS Southside, Rogers Heritage and Springdale Har-Ber. Rogers and Springdale have been eliminated.
If the chalk holds for Halloween, there will be a 4-way tie at 5-1 between Bentonville, Fayetteville, FS Northside and FS Southside. That sets up a two-game showdown on Nov. 7 – Fayetteville at Bentonville, Northside at Southside. That will decide seeds 1-4. All four teams can be the 1-2-3-4 seeds depending on the outcomes.
Har-Ber and Rogers Heritage, both 2-4 if the chalk holds, will play for the 5-6 seeds.

7A-Central
Bryant (2-0) will host Conway (2-0) Week 10 for the Central title. Winner gets a 1st round bye and 2nd round home game while the loser still hosts a 1st round game.
Van Buren (0-2) travels to LR Catholic (0-2) Week 10 for a winner-take-all game to see who gets into the 7A playoffs. The loser is finished for the season.

7A-East
LR Central is (2-0) and will play North Little Rock (1-0) in Week 10. The Tigers are assured of no worse than a 1st round home game. North Little Rock has West Memphis on Week 9, then Central. A win over West Memphis (0-2) sets up a battle for the 1-2 seeds between NLR-Central.
Cabot (1-2) is likely in because of its win over West Memphis, but would clinch the 3 seed if NLR beats West Memphis on Halloween.

6A-South
Benton-El Dorado looms large this week. If Benton wins, then the Panthers (5-0) will travel to Pine Bluff Week 10 to play for the 6A-South title. Pine Bluff (5-0) plays Sheridan this week.
Right now, Benton, Pine Bluff, El Dorado and Lake Hamilton are in. Texarkana’s comeback win over Parkview kept the Patriots from clinching a berth. Right now, Parkview, Texarkana and Sheridan all could get into the postseason, but they need to win and get help.

6A-Central
There are a lot of different scenarios here to contemplate. The above scenario is the easiest with little mess, but it the games fall different, there are a lot of different tiebreaks to consider.
Greenwood is the 1 seed with a win over Alma and Siloam would be 2nd with a win over Russellville while the Airedales would be third.
If Alma beats Greenwood and Russellville beats Siloam, then Alma is the 1 seed, Greenwood second and Russellville third.
If Greenwood wins and Russellville beats Siloam, the Greenwood is the 1 seed while Alma, Siloam and Russellville will finish in a 3-way triangle at 1-2 and tiebreakers will be needed to determine the 2-3 seeds and who is out.
If Alma and Siloam wins, then there is a 3-way tie at 2-1 between Greenwood, Alma and Siloam (Russellville would be out). A tiebreaker will be used to settle the 1-2-3 seeds.

6A-East
Jonesboro is the 1 seed with a Searcy win (by 11 points or more) over Mountain Home Halloween night and/or by beating Marion Nov. 6. Searcy is the 2 seed with the Mountain Home win and Marion will be 3rd. If Mountain Home beats Searcy and Marion beats Jonesboro, then Marion is 1, Jonesboro is 2, and Mountain Home 3. If Mountain Home beats Searcy and Jonesboro beats Marion, the Jonesboro is the 1 seed and the other three teams will be 1-2 and a tiebreaker will be used to find the 2-3 seeds.

Class 5A
5A-West

Maumelle is the 1 seed and outright conference champion with a win either this week (Farmington) or next week (LR Christian). Four teams (Harrison, LR Christian, Greenbrier and Vilonia) are at 3-2 and defending state champion Morrilton is 2-3. Need to let next week shake out before any viable scenarios make sense.

5A-East
Batesville is the 1 seed with a win either Friday (Greene Co. Tech) or Week 10 (Valley View). Wynne and Nettleton will play for the 2 and 3 seeds in Week 10. Forrest City (3-2) has the inside track for the 4 seed, but will have to beat Blytheville (2-3) for it in Week 10.

5A-South
Five teams have winning conference records right now. Hot Springs, Watson Chapel and Camden Fairview are 4-1 while White Hall and HS Lakeside are 3-2. We need another week to sort through any likely scenarios here, but 4 of these 5 will be your playoff participants (thanks Capt. Obvious).

5A-Central
Sylvan Hills (5-0, Beebe) and Pulaski Academy (5-0, LR Fair) are a game closer to a Week 10 showdown for the top 2 seeds. LR McClellan and Beebe are both 3-2 while Jacksonville is 2-3. If McClellan wins out, then the Lions will be the 3 seed thanks to its win over Beebe.
