Ill be there... and ima leave with 1st in the 198 lb division no doubt ;) I am also eager to watch ryan williams of el dorado, he put up 330 on clean last year for the record and almost tied the bench record at 425 in the 240lb weight division and did it all as a junior... pretty impressive

good times

Where is the state meet taking place? I wish the coaches at McCrory would get our kids involved in weight lifting competitions. I think that would be the best way to get the kids to really be dedicated to the weight program.

cav2012

Hazens coming and matt tenison will be our main guy

i.d.p.

Connor Oakes from Mountainburg, there is no way your winning the 198 with that weak 280 bench you lil weiner schnitzel

wml412

Before you start the name calling, there are a few folks out here who would like
to know WHERE and WHAT TIME the meet will be Saturday.

cav2012

R ville school .....maybe at 8 on Saturday

Coach Jones

If they go the Asians from Magazine will probably win the smallest weight classes.  They are pretty darn strong for guys that weigh 115 lbs

EVENT:   19th Annual High School Weightlifting Championship

DATE:   April 2nd

LOCATION:   Russellville Jr. High School, Russellville Arkansas

TIME:  The weigh in will begin at 7:45 a.m. for those lifters qualifying for a weight class the day of the meet.  We will only weight lifters that are border line on qualifying for a weight class.  If you are sure your lifter qualifies for his weight class then there is no need to have him weigh in.  Coaches will meet at 8:15 with a lifters meeting shortly after.  There will be a short warm up time immediately following the lifters meeting for about 15 minutes with lifting beginning at 9:00 a.m.  The meet should end between 12:00 and 1:00.

MEET LIFTS:  Power Clean and Bench Press

WEIGHT CLASSES:  123 and under, 124-132, 133-148, 149-165, 166-181, 182-198, 199-220, 221-242, 243-259, 260 and up.  To be in a certain weight class the lifter must weigh exactly the class limit or less.  Example:  anyone that weighs exactly 198 or less would be eligible for the 198 weight class.  If the lifter were 198.5 he would lift in the 220 weight class or higher.  Hopefully this will answer any questions about the weight classes.  ONLY ONE LIFTER PER WEIGHT CLASS FROM EACH SCHOOL.  If you bring an alternate, he will only lift if one of your lifters is unable to lift.

COST:  The cost is $100.00 per team.  Please make checks payable to State Weight Meet.  If a lifter lifts as an individual it will cost $15.00.  Medals will be given to overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each weight class.  Teams will be ranked by the amount of weight lifted per team for all ten weight classes.  An overall team championship trophy will be given for the overall team champion and a team plaque will be given for team winners of each classification.  We will award team trophies in this manner.  The 7A and 6A classifications will be combined to compete for the 7A/6A state champion.  There will be a champion crowned in the 5A, 4A, 3A, and 2A classifications.

He is strong...no doubt will put on a good show...but the highest bench last year for the whole meet was 420...some big bear from WM...and his clean was less than 325 bc a kid finished with 325 to win that category last year...but i think that he did have the highest TOTAL if i rem right

How many kids did you take Doc?  Hope the off season participation increased this spring.

Coach Jones

I'm at Guard drill, but Coach Upton took a few.  C Yang didn't make his small guy weight, but still should do well.

Now I jotted these down as they were being called out.  They called them out 3rd, 2nd, 1st.  With me converting it, in my head to 1st, 2nd 3rd, it’s possible I could have a class in reverse order.

From the EDNT

Junction City wins 2A state weightlifting title

RUSSELLVILLE – Junction City won its fifth straight Class 2A State Championship in weightlifting Saturday, according to coach David Carpenter.
The Dragons beat Mountainburg and Hazen, who finished second and third.  El Dorado won the Class 6-7A championship as well as the overall title.
Junction did not have any individual winners, but had enough lifters place high enough for the overall top weight of 4,800 pounds.
Competing for Junction City were Mike Williams, 123 pounds; Damion Clark, 132; Romunskee Flowers, 148; Winston Steward, 165; Bronte Elliott, 181; Denzil Hayes, 198; Justin Cole, 220; Markesio Hill 242; Taylor Mason, 259; and Dominique Nathan at heavyweight.
The Dragons have won five straight state titles in Class 2A and seven titles in all, including a pair of overall championships, Carpenter said.

Looks like 4,800 took the 2A title.

Anybody know what the team totals for Mountainburg and Hazen were?

Hazen finished with 4,545.  Not bad for the first time they've ever gone to this thing.  For some reason Hunter Ingle's PC was scratched on the second attempt eventhough he got 135.  He's in the 123lb class. Holt is looking into it.

Looks like if Connor "walk(ed) away with the medal" in the 198 lb group, young Mr. Tenison needs to file a police report for theft of property.

Now don't hold me to this for sure – but I tried to write down (best I could) names of individuals. I think I missed some records and might have some of the totals or weights mixed up.  Next year I'll go copy the results.  All the results are being mailed to the coaches.  Please let me know and I'll edit any incorrect info.. names – weights – schools -  anything.

I do comprehend what you are saying.  I am just stating a fact that on the day of the weight meet, his max  was several pounds lower then his "max" .  I am not taking anything from Tennison, because he is a very strong kid, and comes from a very good family.  The fact that he was 25 lbs off on his bench and 45 lbs off  his PC is hard to believe.

cav2012

Where are you getting 25 and 45 pounds from

purplehajj

he was 15 away on bench and 10 away on power clean

Connor

Wow i leave this site for a few days and you guys grill me hahah i love it though, its cute you guys have nothing else to do.... i also did not get my maxes, 1 week prior to the meet i got 330 on bench press and 300 on clean.  Thats the only reason i said i had the gold because i was sure i was. There was a problem though.... i weighed 204 3 days before the meet and i got down to 200 by friday night by eating just enough calories to survive off of. From friday morning to saturday morning i lost 4 pounds, i now weighed 196 which was perfect. The weight meets jacked up scales said i weighed 201 though and so i had to run and sweet off that weight also. If you get where im going with this i had no energy whatsoever, and i feel as if i got robbed simply because i put so mich work into to only come up short and yes it very depressing. And if u feel like saying those arnt my maxes go ahead, i have an entire team and coaches to vouch for me. And when it comes down to it this strength means nothing if you cant put it to use on the feild

Thanks for the info VS.

Congratulations to all (even those who went into the meet with their FF mouth overloading their whatever).  ;)

Special congratulations to the JC Dragon team.  To win an overall class state title with no individual top five finishers demonstrates a true team effort.

haha bluedog give the kid a break! Conner old guys like us love to bait kids like you - just smile cause we'd love to be young and confident again.  :D  Not many people in the world, probably none of these posters, have gotten the opportunity to be competitive in a state weight meet.  Keep on doing your thing!

I'd like to get your thoughts, in a PM, on improving the meet.  I saw some things that I'd like to see changed a bit.  Dude, I'm sorry but I've got to come clean, some guy in a Dragon Warm-up paid me $100 to put a 5lb plate on the scale while you were weighing in.

cuz

That's why they got all those rings floating around bleu.............. ;D ;D

Seems like the young man is getting more response from his contemporaries but I'll admit I've been playing along.

Hey VS, I applaud the young man for what he accomplished.  Just when one goes out on the proverbial limb in a public forum, it becomes put up or shut up time.  We grey beards can appreciate the difference between confident and cocky or as Grampa Sonnett used to say between brag and fact. ;D

I'm not even going to promise I can get my close to 198 pounds out of bed tomorrow morning. :o

Oh, and VS, that was a Mountainburg Dragon warm-up wasn't it. ;D  I believe that was their mascot when they made that first round playoff trip down on the border in LA (Lower Arkansas) last season. ;)

That's why they got all those rings floating around bleu.............. ;D ;D

Believe 5 years in a row and maybe a few more before '07.

Didn't hurt to have Tuma, Kennedy, Jones, Miller, Pooh Man and a few others on the teams when JC was getting to those 5,000 pound totals though. ;D

Junction City earns state weightlifting championship

JUNCTION CITY – Last year the Junction City Dragon weightlifting team had to settle for second place in the state meet, as they came up 15 pounds short of the title. It was the motivation for this year's team as they prepared to compete for the state title.
It turned out to be all the motivation the Dragons needed.
The Dragon weightlifting team won the Overall and Class AA state titles with ease, as they outlifted their competition by over 500 pounds.
More than 40 teams competed in the event, which was held in Russellville. It was the Dragons first overall weightlifting title and the second in class AA.
Coach David Carpenter was very pleased with the results.
"The guys worked very hard for this. After what happen last year, they were determined to not let that happen again. I am very, very proud of this group."
The Dragons had four medal winners. In the 198-pound division, Adam Tuma finished first with a 330-pound lift in the bench and 285 in the powerclean. Mitchell Cole finished third in the 181-pound division with a lift of 290 bench and 245 in the powerclean.
Chris Miller won the 148-pound division with a lift of 245 in the bench and 240 in the powerclean.
In the 123-pound division, Demarcus Kemp dominated by setting three state records. All three records were previously set by him in last year's meet.
Kemp lifted 250 pounds on the bench. On powerclean he lifted 235 pounds for an overall total of 485 pounds. All three lifts established new state records.

Having three trips to WMS and two football championships with those weightlifters might be what some folks would call putting strength to use on the field.

cuz

I know the other 5 state titles in weightlifting didn't go back to the 03 State Champions but they did have a good strengthening program then also just not of the present ones magnification........

Yeah I'm with you on that - but Connor's original post doesn't sound cocky, at all, to me.  In fact - that's my kind of competitive kid - then he humbly gives credit to other lifters!  Maybe you know him outside of this post - I don't!  But come football season - I want my kids believing and saying (positive reinforcement), we're going to win the State Championship no doubt!

Anyway - it's all good - don't think we've altered his life or anything!  ;D
