Club soccer state championships
« on: May 25, 2010, 07:51:09 PM »

Even though this is a board for High School Soccer... why not keep the soccer convo ongoing for ALL soccer!

What is everyone's thoughts on the State Championships coming up soon? What teams stick out from what age groups? Guys and girls? What are the most intriguing match-ups?

Post with any/all thoughts and opinions!

Enjoyed the high school season but dig the club game a lot more.
Let's start with the U17 boys.
Saturday has LRFC vs NWAL SC STRIKERS
(and)  INTN'L FUTBOL (Ft. Smith) vs. AR Rush

LRFC and INTN'L FUTBOL are the top two seeds.  But all teams have probably gone through some transition.  New coach for LRFC and I believe they've lost a couple players and gain a couple new players.  Rush also loses a couple players/gains 3 players.  I don't know as much about changes to the NWA teams.  Looking forward to the championship weekend.  Really glad the state cup is back at Burns Park.  Beautiful soccer complex.

I think this u17 Rush team will surprise some people in the tournament. They have really been pushing to win this state cup and from what I've heard all the players and coaches have the confidence and believe they can do it. They have added some very talented players to an already good core group. They will give some teams a run for their money

New format for the state cup is quite interesting profitable for the state.

Slightly amended there Sir Alex.

However, I do agree with you that the one off format will be interesting to watch this year.  Every game will matter.

The state should have cut the entry fee since teams are playing fewer games - however they increased the fees this year.   Bad move for a sport that is struggling to gain players from all economic classes in a state with a down economy.

I agree.  How much is it these days, $450/$475?

It would be a great match up if LRFC 93s  and Conway Rush met up in the finals.

This two teams now have a rivalry going on.  Many things have happened in the past year to the point that this
teams now in some way hate each other. Its a friendly hatred the brings the best out of both teams.

Good luck to all the teams at the state championships !

The forecast for Saturday is sunny with a high of 97.  Add some humidity and it will feel like 107.  I believe teams will wilt in the heat.  Teams with quality subs could have an advantage.
