High School All Star East Squad Head Coaches!!
« on: May 19, 2010, 05:51:41 PM »

Just saw that Bryant girls head coach Julie Long and boys head coach Jason Hay will each head up the East squads in this years All Star games in Fayetteville. Congrats to two great coaches and their remarkable seasons (both led their teams to school records in victories) have been rewarded!!!!

This is a joke every year it comes out.  Sheridan puts two players in and Catholic puts in 0.  The way the teams are picked could be the worst system ever created.

There has to be something goin on because RJ Moore Jason Joshua and Hunter Yocum were all on All State and Hunter Yocum gets MVP for All Tournament, Catholic has always been thrown in the dirt, sometimes doesnt get the respect it needs

that's half the reason winning is so fun, bc no one wants them to or expects them to.  oh well, at least the trophy is nice and safe at CHS regardless.

They must be seniors and they must report on the Sunday before the game on Tuesday, for the camp. Rogers high school senior Spencer Dunlop made the squad but might be at Regionals for Club soccer therefore is not on the list even though he made the squad.

How does the system work? I've heard all the coaches in the conference decide on who goes and who doesn't.

Every conference is gauranteed a set amount of players.  Conference coaches nominate and vote on who gets in.  The all star coaches meet in may and decide who the at large players will be according to the alternates that each conference submits.  All star coaches are also nominated by each conference and voted on.  Then every coach in the state has the opportunity to vote and select who will coach in the all star game.

Im not goin to name anyone but, Catholics signature was forged on the final selection, the sheet that is supposed to be given to the coach before final selection and approval, and that is why they are not on the list but they will be penciled in on alternate and then if someone does not attend then they will be put on the primary list....

You saying Bryant coach intentionally left off catholic players with the knowledge of others?

No, Im saying that Catholics coach's signature was forged, for he did not sign off on a final approval and no one knows how his signature was put on the final approval because he did not. Every 7A Coach must approve of the final list. But im guessin only the one who did it knows. Im not saying bryants coach did anything. Does he have any say so in the final selection any way?

My best guess is that those players were left off because there was uncertainty about whether they would make it back in time for the All-star game.  If I recall correctly there were some players last year that made it back from regionals and some that could have made it back but chose not to come at all.  Soccer has been notorious for having a greater percentage of no-shows than other sports at the all-star games.  An educated person may say move the all-star games away from regionals but the AAA and AHSCA are somewhat handcuffed with the timing of these events.  Catholic's coach was probably not at the conference meeting when nominees from the 7A Central conference were selected.  If he was there, he would have signed the form.  If he was indeed not there, then his signature is not required to be on the form.  I doubt that the Bryant Coach would intentionally leave off quality players if there wasn't a good reason.

The All-Star game is what it is.  A collection of decent players (not always the best players) picked within the guidelines set by the AAA to make for fair representation of the four classifications.  When you are restricted by how many players you can pick from each school/conference/class, you will not necessarily have all the best seniors.  There are similar guidelines for selecting coaches as well.  Soccer is one of the few sports that do get to elect their head coach.  It is on a rotating basis from year to year.  You can not be an assistant two years in a row with the same gender.  That is the reason Dequeen's coach was left out.

The form that is filled out for all-star selections is voted on by all the 7A coaches. Catholics coach was not at the meeting and did not nominate any players.  If the coach does not nominate players then the names do not get on the list. The first four 7A kids listed have to be taken by the all-star teams. The two alternates are based on their rank on the list, positions needed, and finally the all-star coaching staff. No more than 6 kids from each conference are allowed to be selected. What staff would not want Catholics players on the team?  The conference chairperson for this year was Conway. They are the ones in charge of faxing in the AAA form for the all-star game so the Bryant coaches didn't have anything to do with the signatures on that page.  The signatures are all done at the conference meetings in front of everyone. There is no way to fake a signature. The AAA has all of those forms on file and you can ask them for a copy to check signatures.  You would think that the Catholic coach would have known about the meeting and if he could not show up to the meeting he would contact the conference chairperson or AAA before or soon after the meeting to get his all-star selections on the list. There were at least 3 weeks in between the conference coaches meeting where they kids where voted on and when the teams where picked. He had plenty of time to get his kids listed. Conway's coach was not there due to a death in the family and he got his kids listed on there. Its not up to the coaches in the 7A to get other teams players on the list....just the players that they coach. The all-star coaching staff cannot pick players to play in the all-star game that are not on the list of players voted on by the conference. It is important to get your fact straight before you make allegations. It all comes down to a complete lack of participation in the process by the Catholic soccer coach.
