Seeing those signs saying "Open on Thanksgiving Night" more and more often now, even for locally owned stores.  You couldn't get me into a Black Friday sale with a case of lit TNT.

Can't people enjoy a simple, pleasant day with family without the relentless "ZOMG BUY BUY BUY!!11" assault...and why do we, as a society, walk right into it?

Perhaps the outlets are merely giving the people what they want.  Ugh.

I would rather pay $1,000 for a tv than fight idiots for one for $200 on Black Friday.

Manufacturers send out sub par quality items for that day anyhow.

Texarkana_Piggie

i can proudly say i have never been to a black friday sale.  i spend thanksgiving day with family.  on black friday while crazy people are hitting the stores, i stay in my p.j.s, put up the christmas tree and watch football all weekend.

HorseFeathers

Last year was the only time I've been to a black friday sale. More out of curiousity to see if it was really as bad as people claimed. Well the fact that the sales hadn't officially started yet, and their was already an elderly lady on a stretcher rolling out of wal mart should have been a good indication to me not to go in. Needless to say, people are stupid...that's it lol

I WILL NOT SHOP ON THANKSGIVING other than to pick up my Dinner from Albertsons !

True Believer

I have been out on Black Friday 2 maybe 3 times.  Haven't been since 2006.

I have yet to get to the deals that they say are there.  Too many idiots.

And I feel so sorry for the people that have to work on Thanksgiving now due to greed.  Yes.  I think that is what is driving the Thanksgiving Black Thursday.

I can shop online.  And find good deals.

And not have to see stuipid people act like savages.

I will  never go out on Black Friday again.  I will leave that to the idiots.  MHO.  And I can bet that I get just as good as deals as those acting like fools out there.

On Thursday, I will be with my family chowing down on food, giving thanks to God and watching football.  And taking a nice long nap later.  And on Friday.  I will be safe and sound in my house.

HorseFeathers

Got into a conversation last year with a college kid that had to work black friday at KMART.

And he told me that the year before in his hometown Wal Mart. They actually had to arrest a guy because he was using a Hot SHot Cattle Prod to get people out of his way... yeah, those christmas deals are worth doing some time in jail and/or paying a fine ::)

Jacketman65

This time of year it seems that our holidays just get "messed" up.  Where did Black Friday come from anyway?  Just to day I drove by a house ( I know they got kids) and saw about 6 to 7 decorated Christmas trees already.  Do we just forget Thanksgiving at this point?  Heck I can't afford Christmas in November much less December.

One of my biggest pet peeves, Christmas @&#* before Thanksgiving. It brings me to swear words against those who do it.

In stores...Places Like Hobby Lobby it doesn't bother me. Now Wal Mart having Christmas Trees out before Halloween just made me shake my head...the way the people in there are already acting just makes me avoid the place altogether...

Our Walmart flipped from Halloween to Christmas overnight. And they were playing Christmas Music on All Saints Day.

Breitontime

Same here. Walk in on Halloween, all garden stuff in the back. Walk in the next day, all Christmas with music blaring.

Russellville wal mart didn't make it to halloween before having christmas trees out...

And my Mother thought is was an outrage when the Sears and Montgomery Ward Christmas Catalogs starting showing up in Mid June instead of late Aug or Early Sept.

The day stores get to write in their ledgers in black ink instead of red, if you believe the old urban legend.

I don't do Black Friday, for most of the reasons stated by others.  Also upset me that I was hearing Christmas music at Wally World before Veterans Day.

When I was growing up the day was more important than the dollar.  Now it's flipped all 'round.

My Thanksgiving and Black Friday will be spent in the company of family, as it should be.

Oh, and +1 to HF for the cartoon.

Lions84

My Friday will be spent on the road coming back from a 3 day visit with my wifes side of the family.

Breitontime

I paid someone $150 to stand in line at Target and get me a 50" tv for $229 for my shop.

I guess I somewhat engaged in Black Friday.

HorseFeathers

Had to go to Wal Mart today....there was already people standing in line for "Black Friday" sales at 3 p.m...smh

Breitontime

I got two 50"ers at Target for $500, and two 32"ers at Wal-Mart for $200. Paid the chick at target $150, and the one at Wal-Mart $50.

Last 50"er I bought was over a grand. I made out alright tonight. Didn't step foot in the stores. Pumping out my shop is going to be a bit cheaper than I expected.

True Believer

I'm done with my Christmas shopping.  All online and the deals were good enough to not make me want me to stand in line.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Texarkana_Piggie

I think that's how I'm doing almost all of my shopping TB.  Most of what the kid wants can be ordered through Amazon so I can shop in my pjs!

True Believer

Amazon is the way to go!!!   I am addicted to it.

i've become such a homebody!  i guess being around people all week and teaching kindergarten, by the time saturday gets here, i don't want to leave the house.  any chores or must dos i can do in my pjs, i am all for.

True Believer

I agree. After dealing with patients, their families, some crazies at work that I have to work with and never being caught up.

I want home!  That is all.  I love it.

Texarkana_Piggie

turkey and dressing leftovers, hot apple cider, and razorback football=perfect way to spend black friday.

Where are you located this Thanksgiving, Lions84?  Albertsons isn't found too much in the state of Arkansas (if any) IIRC....

sevenof400

TB and TP sure have a thing for pj's.......

(Which might be a strong gift buying hint for those having TB and TP on their shopping list....)

xtremewildcat

Got everything I wanted: PS4. Nuvi, 32inch for $98, lap top I wanted. And a bunch of other things.
It worked out good for me the way WM split it up and then got the PS4 on the way home at Game Stop.

Breitontime

The 32" tv's for $98 were great. Target had 50"ers for $229.

I wish you'd of been allowed more than two, or I would have had more people go get them for me.

Give us a review on the PS4, X. I've been holding off on one. They always seem to have bugs at first.

xtremewildcat

I couldn't tell you bro. I don't play and I'm really ignorant about all that stuff. My nephew has one and my 14 year old wanted it. I will let you know in that game forum what they think.

Breitontime

Not a gamer myself. My PS3 has never had a game in it in 5 years. DVD's, Netflix and rentals on the PS Store.

Ridge Rat

I didn't think of Game Stop dang it. My boys gave me the money to get them one and couldn't find one anywhere. Of course I didn't go early either, well not real early compared to most. Left Marshall for Springfield and Branson at 3 am.

Breitontime

That's late Ridge.

Most of the women I know were in line at various places by 3 p.m. Thanksgiving day.

A lady can never have enough warm pjs for these cold winter days.  And an electric blanket or two.

Ridge Rat

Yeah Bre, my mom and sister-in-laws were all up in it before 6, but me and my wife said the devil with it this year. Wasn't much caught our interest this year enough to fight the nuts. Plenty left at Bass Pro and around Branson to do us. Two year ago at West Memphis did me in on Walmart. Never seen anything like that. I'll stick to hillbillies and Bass Pro lol.

True Believer

West Memphis Walmart on the news again.

sevenof400

I have to believe this year's BF sales numbers were down given the lack of any wildly popular must have items and the s t r e t c h i n g of sales days.

I couldn't even find anything online which raised my interest.....

DogsWin7

I didn't go shopping.   In fact I despise shopping and to go a step further I didn't even look at the newspaper ads all week.

I heard on the radio, sales were up 20% from last year.

Wow - that is surprising.  Was any additional explanation given X?  It really didn't seem there were many hot items this year but maybe I'm just not plugged in anymore....

Don't know. Just heard it when I was on the road today. Now that you mentioned it, I will look to see if there is anything written in the next few days.

Maybe it's cause we've been having Christmas shoved down our throats since the beginning of October?? I've become numb to the whole corporate thing that is Christmas....There's more to it than getting high dollar presents....

DogsWin7

There should be more to it but only involving the reason we celebrate Christmas....IMO.

All of the advertising, commercialism, you name it....is helping cause societal degeneration.   It's sad.   IMO.

I saw Christmas items in stores in August. Corporate buyers having been buying Christmas 2014 since October. Christmas items used to be shipped late July early August. I know some retailers that want it shipped in April now. So yes they are anxious to get Christmas items out of the warehouse onto the shelves as early as possible...... crazy if you ask me. Wal-Mart started this shipping items early from China to escape paying high prices for containers during peek shipping times.
