Title: Closed school Mascots
Post by: HorseFeathers on October 28, 2018, 06:31:50 pm
Always see a unique mascot thread pop up thru the year... I'm more curious in the schools that closed before my time, and what they're mascots were..

I'm talking about the Coal Hill's, Gould's, Wabbeseka-Tuckers of the world....

Perry had an elementary when I was a youngster at Casa. They had pee wee basketball teams. Their mascot was the Bears.

My all time favorite is the Hartford Hustlers.  I also found this in the FF archives.

For quite some time, my friends have tried to stump me by giving me the name of a high school in Arkansas and asking me to name the mascot. Just to settle all doubters, I sat down with my buddy Taylor and with his help, named all 208 from memory. Enjoy!

I played basketball there as a youngster. Hit a buzzer beater one time at the end of the 3rd quarter. I think I was in 5th grade. That was a LONG TIME AGO

Kensett (community just to the south of Searcy)  I believe they were the Blue Devils. (I was in 2nd grade, so the details are a little fuzzy after 35 years)  When I was a kid we lived in Georgetown, and when we went to town we would stop at the Blue Devil diner and get a milk shake.  Still to this day that is the best Chocolate Malt I have ever had.

Soon to RIP- The Sparkman Raiders ( Use to be the Sparkman Sparkler's)
There was also a short time around late 40s - early 50s when at least some of the teams were the Sparkplugs.

Weird the consolidated school list I have shows Oak Grove and Rosston being separate schools.
They integrated in the 1960s and then consolidated in the mid 80s with the other 4 rural Nevada county schools.  What year is your list from?  I just remember them being Rosston-Oak Grove.  I don't know if it still is, but originally NHS was in Rosston.

Thanks.  I'm sure when I went to school at Highland that I had heard both Ash Flat and Hardy's masots, but could not remember.  Too many years.

Cotton Plant? Anyone remember the mascot?

Also the Mt. Holly Hornets,  school in Union County about 12 miles West of El Dorado that merged with Smackover about 12 years ago.
