Title: Mt Ida @ Gurdon
Post by: godgiven999 on October 19, 2018, 09:24:18 pm
The 7 has picked up steam with Foreman going down in muleshoe.
Ida vs Gurdon is now possibly for #1 seed, first round bye, and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Gurdon still travels to Foreman as well, should be interesting!

The next two weeks involving Gurdon mean a lot for conference and state.  Teams might have a little extra motivation.  It's really hard for me to pick a winner in this one.  I'm going with Mt.Ida by 6

The, uh, 1st place Go Devils plays host to the MI Lions down in the Devil's Den next Friday. I think Gurdon takes it going off the little tape I have seen on MI. They are good and play sound. But, Gurdon is bigger, much faster, and plays with more depth. Should be a good one either way.

Will be an awesome one to see for sure. Gurdon fans seem to be louder than ever. I think this one comes down to whose defense can hold out the whole game. Devils by a TD. Be Great!

If Gurdon can stop Lagrange on the dive they will win. If not, they will eat the clock up and score on every possession.

not really. They have a trio of backs that get their number called. Only a couple players play both ways. Fairly big up front and good team speed as usual.

Several guys at RB, Threadgill has been most productive.
Gurdon's not a 1 horse team.

I wish Ida had enough players so only a couple could play both ways. That iron man football can be exhausting, especially for Ida this year. Not only do they have to play offense and defense, but now almost all of the starters have to play all of special teams.

The reason Batey scored 3 TDs on the edge of Mt Ida defense was speed. Gurdon dosent have Batey speed but they have plenty of speed from multiple guys to get to the edge, also Gurdon is great at taking away what a team does well. The FB dive and QB dive trail for for Ida wont be there. Ida will have to figure out other ways to score

Jackson is meticulous on the defensive side of the ball. He will sellout on the fb dive and qb dive trail. That is all Ida has and they feast on it vs lesser opposition. Gurdon will take that away and I don't think Ida has anything else, I really don't. They are not running east and west on Gurdon either. I think it will be close only because the styles of each offense will not allow it to be a blowout. The team with the fewest mistakes wins.

With all that said Gurdon by 20.

They have the speed sweep around the edge. They scored agianst Foreman on this play in the first drive of the game. If Gurdon is out of position then it may work a few times but that's all they have shown offensively.

Ida will overload one side of the ball and run a speed sweep. That was their most effective play against us.

You make it sound so easy to stop the dive lol Luckily we wont need anything else's to beat Gurdon. Heck even when Ida runs all there plays to perfection, they still don't have many plays to choose from. But they usually don't need many plays to get the job done.

Honest score prediction

28-14 Mount Ida

It could be closer, but I don't see Gurdon stopping the dive, I don't see Gurdon being able to score quickly on Mount Ida. Foreman could because they have one thing that destroys Mount Ida(and most other teams), Foreman has a stud who rarely gets brought down by one guy. I honestly don't know what Gurdons offensive line looks like this year, but I don't see them pushing our lineman around. But the games aren't played for a reason. Should be a great game!
Title: Re: Mt Ida @ Gurdon

Very different teams for sure.

To stop Mt Ida, you have to be solid on the defensive line and key on the QB. Ida's QB is their playmaker. Versus MC he hurt us more than LaGrange or Dyer did.

It will help Gurdon if they can run sweeps, that way make them run side to side and where them out. Foreman did well versus Mt Ida because they have a solid def line and good offensive speed.

Post by: godgiven999 on October 23, 2018, 06:11:54 pm
Speed is what hurt Ida, Batey went untouched around the edge for his scores. Gurdon might not have 4.4 Batey speed, but they have several 4.6 guys that can get to the edge.

Before I start, just wanted to say I love The Great Gatsby "ole sport"😂. Mount Ida's QB prolly runs a 4.7(at best) while Dyer runs around a 4.6. Not the fastest times for 2A, but those are our fastest. They may not have speed no, but I can guarantee Mount Ida will be for physical, even if they are slower and smaller. I've heard Gurdon has a big line, we'll  see if they can match up against Mount Ida.

"Speed" for Mount Ida has been usually average for everyone else excluding a few people every few years such as Lowry and Forga in 2015 and 2017.  But when Dyer or Jackson gets out in space or hits the edge you ain't catching them.  Now same goes for Gurdon, you won't catch them in space.  But Ida gets you with power as we all know.  Now is all of this trash talk really gonna settle anything?  Let's just all calm down and wait for Friday to watch this speed and power collide and see who comes out on top.

All bull aside, Ida is statistically better. Ida OOC opponent record is like 11-12 while Gurdon's is 8-15. Average margin of score for Ida is 41-6 while Gurdon's is 33-9. On paper, not taking personnel into account, Mount Ida has the better team. But every game has its different set of dynamics and match ups matter. I could see this game, pending the bounce of the ball, truly capable of going all directions. Blowout W for either team, comfortable W for either team, or a nail biting down to the wire W. In the full tilt of the word, it's a crapshoot.

Gordon's a good team. Record shows it. But if they beat Mt.ida it will be an upset. They have numbers they have all that speed. Fairly sound. Historically I couldn't begin to count the number of times I've read on here Ida is too slow. Not enough speed. Can't stop speed. But, with that said. They win. A lot. 47-4 last 4 seasons. And if you think that Betey isn't a freak of nature when healthy your wrong. He has speed, strength, agility, and vision. Speed helps you win but obviously doesn't guarantee a win. Ida won a state title without a single player having a 4.7 or faster. In the early 2000s boonville did the same thing. I love running teams and both of these two are. Wish-bone vs. split back.

The only thing different I would say is I believe if there is a blowout (team wins by 20 points or more) I believe it will be Mt Ida who does it. I believe that Gurdon is good and shouldn't be taken lightly, by anyone, but the only thing that concerns me about them is turnovers. If they have a game where they have multiple turnovers like they have had in numerous games (over half their games) this year so far, Ida will make them pay for it dearly. If they have no turnovers then it COULD be close. I still think Ida pulls this one out.

It's so hard to stop Lagrange! And Dyer and Jackson are very good ballplayers who are fiery!! They will have their team fired up!!

For the record, tonight's Jr High game will decide the conference championship for these 2 schools.  So for Jr and Sr high both this is a huge game

I wish there were more posts on the junior high forums because info about that is hard to come by sometimes.  But either way yes the future is bright.  From what I could tell the jr conference leader has swapped around a lot and the league is very even

I was standing close to a couple of Gurdon fans. One guy says to another all Mount Ida does is run it up middle. They gonna throw or we got em beat. This was in first qtr. The other man says that's what they do and they do it very well. They have a couple of state titles to prove it. Junior High played well tonight! Looking forward to tomorrow night!

I doubt mount Ida junior high this year has been any more successful than the group of young men y'all will face tomorrow night coming up thru the levels of football. Just saying they have earned my respect.

Mt. Ida fans better enjoy the rest of this season. Going to be rough next year. Then it swings back up.

Last three seasons in Jr high:
1-8
3-6 (started several 7th graders)
8-1

Both pee wee teams playing for championship this weekend.

And Gurdon's current HS team has 11 sophomore starters, 6 on O and 5 on D. Gurdon, like in HS, typically is competitive in JV. The future is bright unless of course they get relegated back to 3a again.

Next year will be a tough transition year for Mount Ida(and everybody will write them off for years to come, and they're gonna have to gain all the respect back) but the future is very bright. I helped coach the kids in 8th grade and the 5th and 6th graders for a little bit, and I can tell you've first hand they have the potential to be the best. Mount Ida football should be very exciting for years to come!

Gurdon came out here tonight and they did it. They stopped the dive and even took out the mighty Lagrange. Great win for Gurdon. Very physical and big football team. Foreman better not overlook Gurdon. They are hungry.

Great game! The game was won in the trenches.
Ida did a great job in the second half limiting speed plays around the edge. Ida caught Gurdon slipping the first time they ran the FB trap and #10  took it to the house. #10 is hard to stop and is a soldier! Best of luck in the playoffs!

Good segment Ida and Gurdon midway through highlight show on home pg. It shows Threadgill get walloped after he hurdled a player, also showed a good rip causing a Ida fumble.
