Title: Arkansas State Football Thread
Post by: Redwolves8526 on October 29, 2015, 08:19:32 am
Figured this would be easier to do than just make individual game threads.

We currently sit in 1st place, tied with App State. We are pretty good this year, just need to clean up penalties and coverage breakdowns. The Sun Belt is down this year so we should have a good chance to finish top 3. If we beat App State next weekend, we take the crown. Hopefully we'll be in Nola this December!

I personally like the Go Daddy bowl. It's better for recruiting because you play a better team and play later in the year and more times than not if a Louisiana sun belt team is eligible they will go to Nola.

This could directly correlate to Arkansas State soon...

Appalachian State has struggled against Troy all afternoon. App State and Troy are currently in overtime.

Post by: VHSCoach2 on November 01, 2015, 09:34:30 am
Buckaroo is correct; there is now Bowl that matches SEC and Sun Belt.

The only exception would be if a conference that faces the SEC or Sun Belt in a Bowl Game doesn't have enough Bowl eligible teams and a substitute team from a conference with more bowl eligible teams was used to fill the spot.

Arkansas and Arkansas State played in the Men's NIT, as well, in 1987.

Arkansas won 67-64 after a furious comeback (A-State led by as much as 21 in the second half).

If they win the sun belt and ull gets bowl edible then ull will probably go to New Orleans bowl and asu will go to go daddy. Asu has been the past 4 years and have had very good crowds their so I would imagine they would invite asu back.

If you're asking about the school in Fayetteville, I'd think their best chance to meet up with ASU in a bowl would be in Shreveport.  I'm not sure how many eligible teams the ACC will have and I think the Indy Bowl has contingent arrangements with the Sunbelt and C-USA.  That does assume "Arkansas" wins one of its last three games and would accept a bid knowing the possible opponent would be ASU.  The Indy Bowl folks would love it.

The Wolves roll past New Mexico State 52-28. Fredi with 367 yards through the air with two TD's. He's vastly improved from last year with his arm. If he would have been healthy this entire season, we could have legitmately been sitting at 10-1 or 9-2 right now. I'm really hoping we get matched up with a good opponent in the bowl game. We are 100x better right now than we were at the beginning of the season.

With this win, we have at least a share of the conference title. With a win this Saturday against Texas State in Jonesboro, we win the conference outright and undefeated. Kickoff is at 2pm. Go Wolves!

Quirky part is the punter wears 28 too.  They put Dixon's name patch on Henderson's #1 jersey. That seems poetic under the circumstances.  (Henderson was hurt earlier in the game.)

Not hard to score a million touchdowns when you play in LA Tech's conference
Seriously? We can't just be happy for an Arkansas guy without downplaying what a feat he has achieved...as he scores again.

Arkansas has other running backs just as good, if not better, than Dixon. We didn't need him and he didn't need us. Our RBs were fine and he got a chance to shine at LA Tech. Not sure why Arkansas should have signed him

Final

Very good season for ASU, these seniors have had 4 different HC that's a ton of adversity itself, but they continued to be competitive great season.

I wouldn't say that.  They just ran into a buzz saw.  Dixon's statistically one of the best RBs to ever play in D1-A.

I've seen KD play whiles he's been at La Tech. He is not a SEC back. He's too small and likes bouncing a little too much. Typically, those are 2 bad attributes for a RB in the SEC.

FWIW, Arkansas and Tech both played TAMU in 2012 (KD's freshman year).  Here're the rushing stats from those games:

Rushing                 No. Gain Loss Net TD Lg Avg
Knile Davis             18    84    19  65    0 28  3.6
Jonathan Williams     9    51    11  40    0 32  4.4
Ronnie Wingo Jr.       4    23      0  23    0 10  5.8
Dennis Johnson         5    22      0  22    0   6  4.4

Totals                    39   182     40 142  0  32  3.6

Three of those running backs for Arkansas were seniors. Williams was the only returning back with experience. The other running back Arkansas signed that year was only at Arkansas for a season and finished his career at a division II school. Meanwhile, Dixon breaks records at Louisiana Tech. But of course, we didn't need him.

We didn't. I know y'all think that he's God's gift to the game of football, but Arkansas wouldn't have done any better with him. Sorry.

Stewie,

What is your problem? There is no question that Dixon would have been a significant asset to the Hogs the last 4 years. Would he have scored 87 TD's? No. However, he would have kept his nose clean and likely given us another consistent option in the backfield. Maybe you don't think we needed him, but he sure would have been nice to have.

I just don't understand why we are talking about it. Maybe I missed where somebody said Arkansas missed on Dixon or something along those lines, but most of what I've seen has been about how proud we are of an Arkansas kid achieving a record like that. You were the only one that has downplayed it and put him down (other than somebody quoting football frenzy from November). And being happy for a guy doesnt mean that they think he is God's gift to football. I guess I just don't understand looking to create an argument like this.

For what it's worth, I wish that Fredi Knighten and Kenneth Dixon were starting for the Hogs. However, I am proud of what both of them have accomplished at their respective schools.

This is why there's a wedge being driven between fans like you, and the rest of the state of Arkansas...

Only in response to your shots taken at him.

I'm glad that you are proud of him, but it just doesn't seem that way when your first comment is that it is easy to score a million touchdowns in that conference (even though he is the only one ever to score that many in any conference ever).

So proud of the Red Wolves and the exciting season they and the coaches gave us.  All the fans I talked to said despite the loss at the bowl they are looking forward to next year.  And of course New Orleans was a blast.

So here's to a howling good year for 2016!!!
