Nice excuse, sounds like something a Prescott fan would use. But actually Malvern is going to be pretty good the next few years.

We played New Boston back in the 90s, Pleasant Grove in 02 and 03, and Liberty Eylau in 08 and 09. I wouldn't mind playing Texas High.

I actually heard from a good source that Arkansas High has denied playing Nashville for years. We've played them in Jr. High for the last few years, won 35-0 this year. May not be much of a game if they played in high school.

I think Malvern may still be good. But with the addition of Waldron, Mena, and Fountain Lake to the conference those should be sure wins.

Nashville's got a pretty good team, although not as good as the last three years. I hadn't seen the explosive offense that we're used to until Monday. So they may be getting into a groove. Nashville's QB runs a lot he's a tough runner, and there's plenty of speed and size as usual. Not sure what effect, if any, playing twice in a week will have. I'll listen on the radio tonight if I can.

Nashville 7th grade lost one game, to hot springs. They even beat the 8th grade team pretty soundly. I don't know how to evaluate 12 as 13 year old but they're loaded with speed and many very large lineman. My kid is bigger than the biggest kid on any Of those we played and there are half a dozen bigger than him.

Im sure it will be a good game this year. This is supposed to be a down year/class for us but no one has told this group that yet. They have a few really good players.

I have heard a lot of good things about Prescott's 9th grade group especially in basketball. 6'5 kid huh?

BTW I will be at a few Prescott senior high games this year. Pretty close to a few of the kids on the team. Should be a lot of fun at least the next two seasons.

Coach Rick Baker. Been at Nashville for around 15 years as the Jr. High football coach and Sr. High track coach. Heck of a track coach and not too shabby at football either.  Nashville's Jr. High offensive coordinator is Kyle Slayton, the Sr. High baseball coach. He's another good one. I don't see those 2 leaving Nashville anytime soon.

Coach Baker is in his mid 50s and I think he's probably content with retiring at Nashville. I'm not sure about Coach Slayton. He's a great baseball coach so that's probably his first priority. Both seem to be happy where they are.

Post by: ~WPS~ on October 01, 2015, 10:18:31 pm
This year there isn't really a dominant player like Pettway or Hopkins were. But they've got quite a few good players. T.K. Hopkins, yes another Hopkins, plays RB and is fun to watch. QB Moorer and receivers Gilliam and Medina are also good.

Title: Re: Nashville Junior High
Post by: ~WPS~ on October 01, 2015, 10:55:04 pm
It's very possible. Of course it's possible every year. The 8th grade team this year is loaded. The current 11th and 12th graders were two of the better Jr. High teams I've seen and there is a good chance for Nashville to win it all this year. I'd say in 3-4 years it's looking good again.

In your opinion. How much of impotence is jr high compared to sr high? Seems some towns put most of there focus into the sr high... Fans that is...would you say there is a huge gap between the 2. When it comes to supporters?

Well winning 43 in a row draws attention. There's usually a pretty good crowd for Jr. High games. Of course not near as big as the Sr. High games but still a good sized crowd.

The Jr. High coach doesn't have any interest in coaching high school. He's the head track coach in high school. He's been around a while, he's probably nearing retirement before long. The OC is the head baseball coach. He could be a high school OC but seems to like where he's at.

The JH game this year between Nashville and Mena was pretty good. Nashville trailed for a while and finally pulled away in the 4th quarter. I thought Mena got away from what was working and it cost them. They had a couple of big backs that were hard to get down and they just quit giving it to them late.

Nashville will lose a lot of talent off of this year's team but the 8th graders seem to have a pretty good team too.

Everyone knows being good in junior high does not equate to always winning in senior high but to be fair, have you seen them play?   The talent level alone is very noticeable.  They play above average almost better than some high school teams, in certain aspects.

Not this year.  I know the teams from the past few years looked very good in JH but it's not translating to HS.  A lot of it is they had some full grown studs in junior high that never grew anymore and that happens a lot.

I'd say going 36-3 over the past 3 seasons with 3 straight conference titles and a state title is translating pretty well. As much as we'd like to, it's hard to win state every year.

I will take Arkadelphia in the 8th grade game.  Nashville has good team but not as many athletes in that grade.  Maybe Arkadelphia in the 9th, will be close.  It will be a long time before Nashville ever beats Arkadelphia ever again in High School.

8th grade lost to arkie last year bad taste in the boys mouth only game they lost wouldn't count them out most of them have been together playing ball since the 4th grade and  have a impressive habit of winning you just might be surprised.....and as far as the loss to arkie this year we had our chances for that game to  have ended differently and
it very well could have flame if you would like to but  never count out  Nashville.

Looking at what Happened to Mena last week vs Arkadelphia I could understand, people not thinking this would be a good game this week vs Nashville.  But it should be.

I wasn't at the game and I have not heard what happened to set the bearcats back,  but what I think is from hearing they thought they were unbeatable and a little arrogant,  is once the badgers came out and got a couple things on them,  they got down and pressed and it got worse.   I think Mena and Arkadelphia are a lot closer then the score indicated and fully expect the bearcats to bounce back with a much better effort this week!   Another thought is Mena has probably had this Nashville game circled for awhile knowing the Huge winning streak the JR. High scrappers are on,  maybe they were looking a week ahead.

Here are the 2 common scores from this season

Mena beat Bauxite 21-6
Nashville beat Bauxite 34-7

Mena beat Ashdown 33-0
Nashville beat Ashdown 21-20 ( following a missed 2 pt conversion by Ashdown)

My prediction for tomorrow night is
Mena 29
Nashville 21

Last time Mena beat Nashville in Jr. High or Sr. High,  was my 9th grade year in 2000!

i don't think it's numbers. They have 59 on the sr high roster. That's a plenty to have a JV. I think they just don't want to have it.

Confused here...serious question, what are the benefits of not having it if you have good numbers? Are coaches lazy? Scared to get young kids hurt? I can only see good coming from it if you have 60 kids out. Teams with way less are playing JV.

JH Is something everyone plays. Jv isnt....so you can get extra reps by doing so. It may not help. I would think you would want to get all the reps you can. It is called coaching. Probably the reason we have been decent even when talent is down here over the years. Not all can say the same. Some just say talent is down and take the L. It will be back up some day.

My theory is it has to do with how the Arky coaches act on the sideline. Comical at times. We were laughing and could hear the language all the way across the field. Jumping up and down. On the field. Complaining about every call and no call. There is an art in working an official and that is obviously a lost art in Clark county.

They were on the field tonight. I counted 35 suited up 8th and 9th combined. Goes back to what I was talking about earlier. Why so low on numbers?

Nashville jr high is a great team no doubt. 2 calls could have gone arkies way might have changed the outcome but none the less scrappers were the better team on offense and defense

Meh calls went  what I thought to be both ways seemed even..... that being said  lets say the one call that most likely has arky in arms the alleged fumble  run back for a td even if we gave that one back to them  just would have been  a lil different score  with Nashville still on top

just my point of view never mind the call was  a good one but not gonna defend it all day .... end of the day it was a very good game

Why

I agree, I think JV is beneficial to a program.
Arkadelphia's theory is that, in general, Arkadelphia has no two way players. Some exceptions for situational purposes, but nobody plays both ways for any amount of significant saps. So, the thought is that JV is not needed if you have 30-35 players getting significant PT on Friday nights.

8th & 9th are both low in #'s, although what they have is pretty good. Could have separate seasons, but again, for the most part nobody plays both ways; so they just combined for 1 team.

Last nights game was a good one. Always amazed with the size of the Nashville players. Competitive game, I think Nashville is probably a more complete team; also think Arkadelphia got screwed on a scoop & score late in the first half, ended up being a 13/14 point swing in a game that ended 29-13.

No way...not Arky complaining about refs again. The conspiracy continues. Sr high, Jr high, everyone hates them...home and away. Only team in the state to get calls against them.

In case you weren't there, Nashville clearly fumbled near the goal line when the runner extended the ball toward the endzone, Arkadelphia scooped and went 101 for the score. No TD signal, no whistle, somehow still Nashville ball. Play continued all the way til Badger score, still no whistle, while run back is going on 3 officials meet center field 3 yard line head official is running in circles at about Nashville's 35, hands in the air looking for a call from the other 3. Ball goes back to Nashville, they score from the 1 on the next play; took 6/7/8 off the board for Arkadelphia, added 7 for Nashville, leaving us with a 14-7 deficit at the half.

Momentum going into the half with a 6/7/8 pt lead, and getting the ball first to start the second half.
Unfortunately you can always count on 1 or more calls like this in Nashville. Also had a 65/75 yd TD called back in the 4th qtr for a mysterious blocking foul.
Badgers managed to overcome and score, but an additional 3-4 minutes came off the clock. There weren't many penalties in this game, just odd that one of the few occurs on a big play for the Badgers that wasn't in the vicinity of the ball. Don't remember any blocking penalties on Nashville.

I agree.
In past years it seemed as if we would not do it regardless of game/situation. Warren in 2013, I think if you put Oliver/Howell and a few others on defense at key moments it MIGHT have made a difference.
I think this year there are some guys that get snaps on both sides, but for the most part it doesn't happen, and it's not on a full time basis. The junior high did play several lineman both ways this year though, due to low #'s.

I guess our coach told you he saw it? The play was at midfield on our sideline, didn't see it, but I'm sure you did.
Scoop & score, again on our sideline; don't think he was down, but again I'm sure your view was better. By the way why was the play never blown dead if he was down. 3 possible responses from an official on that play, two involve blowing the whistle to signal end of play (down & TD, which also calls for raising both arms). Neither of those options were chosen by the officials, but the 3rd option was, which was to let the play continue until the 100 yard scoop & score was completed.

Well actually, that call resulted in a 2 score swing. Took 6 off the board for us, and put 7 on the board for Nashville (scored on the next play). What happens after that is unknown. Don't know why Nashville stopped, but we're taught to play til the whistle blows, which it did not. Oh and you didn't say, but did our coach confirm to you that he agreed with the block in the back call?

Anyway, as I said in another post, I do think that Nashville had a more complete team. Our guys actually put up more of a fight than I was expecting, and who knows how it would have turned out if that one play goes our way. But unfortunately, right or wrong, officiating like last night is what we expect whenever we travel to Nashville, AR; and by the sound of it we're not the only ones that feel that way.

From the sound of the FF boards all year you get those calls at home and away not just in Nashville. Your varsity head coach gets kicked out of a game (that was a mistake).  All the refs hate Arky. They are stellar for everyone else.

You can choose to ignore it, but the consensus on going to Nashville is that inevitably you will be screwed by the refs. If by "you" you are referring to Arkadelphia getting those calls all year, please provide some examples, because I've yet to see that claim made on FF by anyone.

Another season is here. 2018 season starts with a 65 game winning streak on the line. The last loss was in 2010 against Lake Hamilton. Ironically, this season starts at Lake Hamilton. A lot of tough challenges on the schedule, and it'll be a huge accomplishment to get this streak to 74.

2018 Schedule
8/30 - @ Lake Hamilton
9/6 - @ Magnolia
9/13 - @ Arkadelphia
9/20 - vs Bauxite
9/27 - vs Fountain Lake
10/4 - @ Robinson
10/11 - vs Ashdown
10/18 - vs Harmony Grove
10/25 - @ Malvern

This is probably the most worried about the streak I've been since it started. The schedule is loaded as usual. This team has some talent but isn't as good as what we've been spoiled by over the past few years. Hopefully I'm wrong and they keep it going.

Tough question to answer.  I think most places you look Jr. High success or lack of success probably doesn't correlate that closely to high school success.  There are a lot of factors that can change things.  One that stands out is in Jr. High 1 or 2 stud athletes will win games.  That doesn't work in high school.  Not saying that is Nashville's case, but some years it has been.  Some players peak early.  Sometimes you lose players between Jr. high and Sr. high.

One thing that needs to be pointed out... During the streak most of the teams Nashville beats in Jr High, they also beat in the corresponding years in Sr. High.  If you look back at the losses from 2014(when the first JH undefeated group were seniors) to now, those were mostly against teams we didn't play in Jr. High.  Fountain Lake and Dardanelle in 2014, Pea Ridge in 2016, De Queen, Robinson, and Booneville in 2017. All of those we didn't play in Jr. High, maybe they would've beaten our JH, who knows.  Arkadelphia is the only team that has won a Sr. high game after losing to Nashville in JH.

In the 3 peat years, the JH was average at best.  AJ Whitmore was a running back.  Ironically, Leonard Snell from 2015 title team was also a running back in JH.  Snell's group was probably the best JH group we've had, everyone knew they were special.  Plus, the next group had Hopkins and he scored everytime he touched the ball in JH.  Last year's 9th grade class is very similar.  I think they were as good as the 2015 group was in JH.  State title in the next 3 years? Good chance.

No more winning streak, but the conference title hasn't left Nashville in nearly a decade and the goal remains to make sure it doesn't.

Not at all sure what happend to us lastnight (besides being beat) went from solid playin on D in the first half to   seemed to me  we lost something in the second half i still feel that  this team is  better than they  looked this year..... perhaps its time for a change  in staff?  And yes i have issues with  the staff :)
Solid JH team but just doesn't have those game changer athletes Nashville has had the last 5 years.

Thanks, Nashville for losing Arkadelphia a conference championship. :'( Can't ever help a brother out.

5-1 so far.  Lost to Arkadelphia by a score or two earlier in the season.  Playing really well right now.  Talented group of 9th graders this year.

Better be because that 11th and 10th grade are weak.
