Title: Lamar @ Mansfield 10/19/2018
Post by: Warriors023 on October 12, 2018, 10:13:00 pm
Thoughts? Predictions? I'll take Lamar by 14

All I have to say is, Lamar better be prepared to play a Full game. If they play like they did in the first half against Greenland, I'll take Lamar by 3 scores. If the second half team shows up, they may get beat.

If they take a lead into the locker room at half-time like they did tonight, I'd be very surprised if they let down again like they did in the 2nd half tonight.

I agree with you, if the team that showed up in the first half, I'll give them a chance of hanging around with Booneville and Mansfield. But if not, both teams will name their score.

I have a suspicion that there is going to be some activities during next week's practice to get the team's attention.

Several possible outcomes, some of them not pleasant. But . . . I think pass defense will be a "point of emphasis" this next week and we will do better, and I think Lamar's sustained drives with a good running attack will keep the ball out of Mansfield's offense's hands enough to bring home the win.

But Mansfield is a tough field to visit.

We shall see if Lamar reacts to its Greenland as well as Booneville reacted to theirs.

I want to apologise to anyone I've ever offended at Lamar.  I'm a Warrior all the way and in no way ever have I intentionally disparaged the program.  I'm sorry if administration and coaching staff felt that way.   Friendship is more important to me that whether I ever post on here again.  With that being said.  I will not be reading anymore of these posts or ever making another post.  I wish Lamar the very best the rest of the season and into the playoffs.  I hope to get updates the rest of the year from any friends I do have left there.  Good luck Friday night.  Take care of business and safe travels.

I see nothing wrong with pointing out things that need to be improved in a program so I see no reason you should leave. It's one thing if a person is negative all the time, but I do not notice that from your posting. I do not see a problem at all with pointing out flaws that could be improved as long as you're cheering the team on 100% which I see you rooting for the program. You should stay on here and not worry. People in leadership positions who can not handle criticism by simply ignoring it need to get a thicker skin.

I was mostly confused cause Lamar is 7-0..... What is there to be down in the dumps about 7-0? LOL. Life's tough sometimes, might as well roll with it and fly high when times are good and rolling.

Don't know what tomorrow (or Friday) will bring, but I am going to enjoy the moment. I had hoped we would be 7-0 at this point, but I didn't necessarily expect it. The trouble with being undefeated at this point in the season is that it definitely raises your expectations.

KEYS TO THE GAME (for Lamar)
1. Sustained drives; keep their offense off the field
2. Improved pass defense; avoid big plays
3. Win the battle up front
Title: Re: Lamar @ Mansfield 10/19/2018
Post by: CoolBreeze on October 14, 2018, 02:40:38 pm
My guess is that the true key to the game is how Mansfield responds to their butt-kicking Friday night. If they get down in the dumps, they're likely toast before they start. However, if they use it as a wake-up call and a motivation to redouble their efforts then they'll make a game of it.

Being the victim of a blowout one week does not guarantee that a team cannot beat a good team the next. In 1972 the Misouri Tigers lost to Nebraska one week but went to South Bend and defeated No. 8 Notre Dame 20-26 a week later. It is possible to snap back after a devastating loss.

If Lamar can shore up the pass defense and limit any big plays then they will win. If they don't this could turn in to a shootout. IMO I believe pass defense will be a big point of emphasis this week in practice. Can Mansfield's line keep Lamar out of the backfield? If not could be a long night for them. Can Lamar bottle up the first half of the Greenland game and use it the rest of the year. They definitely need that intensity the rest of the way.

Hopefully it's a good, injury free game for both teams. Good luck to both.

Greenland kept picking on one side in particular and scored multiple times from it. Gotta move people around and change match ups. Put the best deep ball defender on the best deep ball receiver. It's not rocket science.

I think we already are seeing how the fans are reacting, they haven't even showed up to the thread yet. I still think Mansfield wins in a close game. Coach Jones is very good though and he could give Mansfield fits. Great guy and great coach!

I have no clue. Went to one game there a few years back when Mansfield hosted Fountain Lake. Nice field but the visitor bleachers are not very good and the home stands are little.

I'm not going to be baited into an argument over what transpired last week.
It may be difficult, but try and focus on the game being discussed, if that's not too much trouble............................, unless you're the self-appointed comedian in FF in which case carry on!

I viewed it as just an uncalled penalty and didn't know that giving a number, or naming the player (their names appear in the programs) was a big deal.
I can assure everyone that I won't make that mistake again!  lol

Anyway I'm hoping for a dry and injury free game for both Lamar and Mansfield on Friday.

This should be a very fun game to watch with lots of questions that will be answered between 7 pm and 10 pm Friday night.

Will Lamar play a complete game or have one good and one bad half?
Can Mansfield put the thorough thrashing that the Bearcats gave them in the rear view mirror and move on?
Will it rain and if so who will it bother the most?

Winner will pretty much lock up the #2 seed barring any really crazy things happening in weeks 9 and 10.

Forecast 90% chance of rain

Here's our local forecast for Friday as it stands now -

Friday - Rain, mainly before 1pm. High near 55. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday Night - A 30 percent chance of rain before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

So, hopefully the rain will have moved out of our area, or at least stops a few hours before kickoff and won't drown the teams and fans.

Yes, without the rain, that's football weather! lol

Those making the trek down the mountain for the game be sure to dress for the expected weather and don't forget your binoculars, because you're going to need them, if you set on the visitors side of the field.

Even if Mansfield is hungry, the nature of the loss still may work against them. The doubt factor may slip in: "Do we really belong?"

When talking about 15-18 year old young men sometimes it's more about what is in their heads rather than the talent they have. It takes sometime to change culture. The coach at Mansfield seems to have that culture headed in the right direction. Friday would be a huge step in the right direction with a win!

This particular year most folks will probably be feeling like that after they play Booneville. Next year should be different. It hasn't been very long since Booneville was 4-7. Things tend to go in cycles.

4-7 with Booneville is very few and far between.   They are up more than they are down, so I wouldn't expect them to be terrible anytime soon.

4-7 with Booneville is very few and far between.   They are up more than they are down, so I wouldn't expect them to be terrible anytime soon.
Yeah you're right, this is the best year Booneville has had in several years. But it ain't over.

I think the first half of the Greenland/Booneville game shows that Booneville  can definitely be beat.

And the 2nd half shows that you better score a bunch of points to do that!!  If we ever play a complete game and not just show up and go half way we could be really dangerous

Interesting match-up this week. Based on recent performances, this will be weakness against weakness. Mansfield hasn't been able to stop the run and Lamar definitely has gotten burned by the pass.

It'll take a complete team to beat Booneville.
If you have holes in your defense they will probe and find them and then exploit them.
You'll need a potent offense, with a line that can open holes for 4 quarters, coupled with a very solid defense.

Oh, and the chance of rain for the Lamar vs. Mansfield game has dropped to only 67% C.O.R.

With the field as muddy as it is likely to be, both teams probably will be Brown Dogs before the game goes very far.

Lamar should win this one by a couple scores. What is bothering the storm though is the  void left by the departure of MAC.  So I got to questioning should I fill that void or would the warrior faithful rather have MAC back?

Biggest overall size for a Mansfield in a good bit.  Some speed here and there.  They do pass a lot and like to run some zone read.  Pressure the qb and you'll get picks if your secondary can move a little. Neither line is too stout so if your strong in the trenches it'll be a plus.

Lamar did not look too good against Greenland up front, but so far this year the line has been one of their strengths overall. The big tight end is a weapon. Hope we use him more.

Been watching a little bit of film in Mansfield, liking the matchups I'm seeing. Feel like we will be able to get some pressure off the edges and most of the matchups in the secondary play to Lamar's strengths. We shall see how this rolls into tomorrow night.

So you literally create an account on here after reading through this entire thread and comment since it is your first post.... I am not sure what I did except tell a guy he should keep posting cause I enjoyed his input on their program. Second, I am not from Lamar and you probably know that. All the Lamar posters on here are completely sensible, good guys on here, bring good & positive input on their program, and you know that. You just created an account to try to fan the flames for some reason. Anytime you see an account come up and the first posts are like yours you know it wasn't created to actually talk sports at all. Just created to troll. They're 7-0 at this point and let them enjoy that.

Both staffs have a coaching job to do this week. It will be interesting to see which team responds.
Or maybe they both will, and it turns into a barnburner.

Here's the latest on the weather at gametime.  The chance of rain is 40% at 5:00pm, dwindling down to 20% chance of rain by 9:00pm, so maybe the rain will miss us.

As the crow flies, Mansfield is about 20-25 miles from Booneville, and it has rained all day here.

Mansfield's field is a bowl, the water doesn't go anywhere except to the sidelines. I'll take Lamar in a good game, 24-14 due to their ability to run the ball down people's throats this year. I'll give an update on field conditions when I get to Mansfield

Must have upgraded their drainage system, field doesn't seem to be too water logged, but passing the ball would be a slippery situiation

All things considered, this was a very good win for the Warriors. Mansfield is a legit team this year, notwithstanding their big loss to Booneville. Their QB is for real and they have some size. With their passing attack they had the ability to strike deep at any time.

Lamar stayed cool, even with turnovers and several penalties against Mansfield. Stayed with what brung them, and got it done. On a wet field.
