Why a District tournament? It is not a blended conference?

OrangeCrush.

I guess because there has always been a district tournament.

wait4it

Just an opportunity for a lower seed to upset a higher and go to regional tournament.

LeftyWorld

Always a district tournament in 4A.

Or you can look at it as it gives a team that got a late start due to a deep playoff run a chance to put it all together by district tournament time. Teams are still rewarded for their regular season record. Brackets are drawn so that the 1 and 2 seeds get automatic bids to regionals. Any conference that doesn't have a district tournament is quite frankly stupid.

I agree, some teams could get an injured player back late in season or just peak at the right time.

with that setup I can see some advantages. However it still leaves an opportunity for an upset. Either way there will always be pros and cons to both.

I understand what you are saying about an upset and that would suck if it was the team that you followed. My thoughts on it is if a 3 seed can't beat an 8 seed or a 4 seed can't beat a 7 seed then they don't deserve to make it anyways. Slim chance they are the kind of team that would have postseason success anyways.

Having a district tournament rewards lazy coaches
.. Double round Robin format shows who top teams in conference are..

double round robin is the best way to go.  A tournament is a good idea if you only play a team one time.  Even if you have an off game you can still recover and be a 1 seed in a regional tournament.

A few years back they did not have a district tournament. The top 4 teams automatically made it to regionals. That did not last too long I don't think.

Unless someone makes a big jump by the end of the season, then probably not.  8-4A is as strong as ever.

That may be true but little 1 a Nevada just beat magnolia tonight by 15... Nevada is pretty good don't get me wrong but it may not be as strong as once was thought

Magnolia is likely to get a rematch in the Camden Fairview holiday tournament, so the outcome may be different next time though.

With Ashdown boys and girls out of the the conference moving down to 3a, the championship is up for grabs. If Ashdown would've stayed they would've been easily the favorites to win the district. Especially the boys.

I agree on the district tournament allowing worse teams to upset better teams and really waters down the actual conference season. Though it does help make sure the teams that are playing the best ball that time of year move on, which is what you want. Someone said rewarding lazy coaches, but could it also reward smart coaches who help their team peak at the right time of year instead of those who peak in December and fall off after Christmas break!

With Magnolia rolling through their conference schedule, can Mena or any team out of 7-4A  give them a match?

Anyone know what the 7-4A District Tournament dates are and the bracket set up?

Mr.Magnolia06

That's a good question, magnolia seems to be getting better and better each game

There are a lot of inconsistent playing teams over here in the 7-4A. Nashville is playing the best of anyone right now, but I don't know if that will continue. Mena is a one man show. Malvern is a streaky shooting team. Arkadelphia is a puzzle. Bauxite seems to be getting better.

If the regional tourney started today these would be the match ups:

#1 Mena (7-1) vs #4 Star City (3-4)
#2 Camden Fairview (4-2) vs #3 Bauxite (4-4)

#1 Magnolia (6-0) vs #4 Nashville (4-4)
#2 Arkadelphia (5-3) vs. #3 Monticello (4-2)

7-4A Teams have 4 conference games left before their district tourney. (Also the seeding with 7-4A are subject to change with the outcome of the District Tourney.)

8-4A Teams have 6 conference games (Star City has 5) left but no district tourney. Top 4 teams go to regionals.

Watch out for Warren as 4 seed...they gave Magnolia a fit in the first half..

Lol naw that's how magnolia play they start every game out like that they are a very strong 2nd half time,,js

That is true! They really did give Magnolia some fits there in the first half. Took a 30-27 lead into the half playing some solid ball, then Derrian Ford happened. Warren can be a scary team in Regionals. That is one thing that Magnolia has to get better at is, starting games. Can't start slow against some teams because they will jump out on you.

Kevin

Bauxite's surprising me this year, they beat a pretty good Nashville team.

I agree with you...I think they may have a shot to go to regional tournament.  if they end up as the 4 seed, they will face a pretty good Magnolia team.  But at least they can say they made it to regional tournament.

Could it be that the outcome was the same? No score was ever posted here. Assuming Mag comes through Regional as a 1 seed, do you honestly see them having enough of a home court advantage to compete with the East # 3 seed?

MR.GOMAB

Barring any injury Magnolia should be the 1 seed in the South region no question. This is a really good team! If the 3 seed from the East does win their 1st round matchup and meet Magnolia in the Quarter finals. Magnolia can most definitely win.

Outcome was the same lol..score was closer though...I think Nevada won by 2...Nevada is a good team for sure but might better worry about beating Dermott on Tuesday!!

I know I am a bit behind with this post, but Bauxite over Mena...Is Mena beginning to slip or has Bauxite improved that much?

Bearcat45

I think Bauxite is playing good right now.  Mena isnt slipping but did lose one of the starters to an apparent achilles injury.  This could affect them some because they dont have a deep bench.  They only play maybe 7 players on most nights so losing a starter is a big deal for them.

wait4it

Hate to hear about injuries...maybe the team can rally around and continue their season to finish on a strong note.  Always tough when a starter goes down.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Mena was rolled up, but they did lose by three.  It was more a product of missed opportunities with missed layups and free throws, one starter out injured, two starters on the bench the entire 2nd qrtr due to some questionable calls.  It is what it is an "L" in the books but I wouldnt say rolled up.  Bauxite played well and had a good crowd to back them too.  I loved the atmosphere there though.  Wish every gym had that atmosphere.
