1) Michael Angelo Batio (look up his vid on youtube)
2) Yngwie Malmsteen
3) Zakk Wylde
4) Jimmy Page
5) Stevie Ray Vaughan
6) Jimi Hendrix
7) Buckethead (look him up if you dont' know him lol or just play GH2)
8) Joe Satriani
9) Steve Vai
10) John Petrucci

Buckethead in the top 10?...and no Hammett in the top 5?...that is ludicris man lol

Buckethead can outplay half the people you know. Hammett would get WAXED by any one of my top five.

Hammet vs. Satriani.....hammet plays 3 notes super fast. Satch just laughs at him and procedes to wax him.
and then Steve Vai steps on stage and proceeds to wax them both....................

...and then Stevie Ray Vaughn would come floating down on a cloud and they would all 3 bow before him.
I could see that!

SRV was unbelievable,I seen him open up for The Who in the Cotton Bowl in 1989.

I agreed with you, Ben, till I was in my 40's...then I started really "listening" to SRV...incomparable, imo.

SRV was an awesome guitar player, no doubt. I guess it just boils down to what you like to listen to. I always liked Vai. The first time that I seen him with David Lee Roth I was hooked. Unbelievable stuff..........................I watched SRV on Austin City Limits again the other night. Just blows you away. I seen his brother with the Fabulous Thunderbirds live and came away unimpressed with Jimmy Vaughn.

Throwback1

I've never been a big Jimmy V fan, but if you read up on him, apparently his peers don't agree with us, which is fine, I reckon.

IMO Jimmie V is more of a traditional blues man.  Stevie, may he be playing in Heaven right now, more of the Texas, Blues rock groove.  I don't ever remember Stevie playing without a pick, but you often see Jimmie using finger-pick style.  his background guitar stuff is pretty cool in the 'Fabulous Thunderbirds', especially 'Tough Enough'...  Very understated, but way cool.  I love their cd 'Family Style', and their 'Telephone Song' is one of my favorite songs.

When you see video of SRV closing his eyes,  pumping his shoulders, sweat dripping off his nose,,,, well, John Mayer actually said it best for me.  He's gone to that place where all of us other pickers hope to get to some day.

well said...my Dad picked a little, and one of the great regrets of my life is never having at least tried to learn a little...yeah, I know, but old dogs, man...

David Lee Roth's Eat'em and Smile album was way underated in my opinion it was better then Van Halen's 5150.Eat'em and Smile had a little bit of everything.
