Their passing game is pretty solid,  so our DB's are going to have to be on their toes and play lights out, and mistake free.

The bye week blues...
Yep. Bye can be a tough opponent. Sometimes leaves a team lacking motivation and energy. Just ask last year's Charleston team.

Don't cut Charleston short there Breeze, I know they were runner up, but they played good football, even in the championship.

I thought as much. It's not enough that prognosticators pic them to win. JC will have to win the game on the field.

Various Dragon teams have done just that 216 times over the last 20 seasons.  Hopefully this year's team takes that number to 217 Friday night.

Harding Academy at JUNCTION CITY (10): Winner advances to play H. Grove Haskell-Clinton victor. Comparing scores: Harding Academy smacked Smackover Week 2 49-21 and Junction City downed Smackover 36-14 Week 8. Harding Academy has won four straight games by a combined 141 points and the Wildcats have won 10 straight opening-round playoff games. Junction City alum and first-year coach Steven Jones is the first coach since Nashville's Mike Volarvich to finish his first year at a school 10-0 (Nashville won the Class 4A state title with a 15-0 record). Harding Academy can likely match Junction City's size up front, but the Dragons' team speed could be the deciding factor.

Don't you just love it when the media mentions "team speed" when private schools from the northern half of the state play public schools from the southern half of the state.  ;)  :-X

Hopefully Coach Jones remembers the defensive changes Coach Carpenter made the last time these two teams played.

Jones should.

He was the QB for that game.   ;D

The score comparison vs. Smackover is completely irrelevant and would be even if that statistic had meaning. JC was missing their quarterback against the Bucks and still pounded them in the 2nd half. With their QB it likely would have been a mercy-rule game.

dragondad

I'm pretty sure the QB was only one of four starters that were out that game.

HeadBussa08

Like the Dragons by 2 tds in this game but Harding could make it a shootout. I hear their skill is healthy and they can toss it around some.

I didn't post it to brag, if you look on the previous page of this thread I posted Harding Academys stats as well.

Old Ball Coach

JC's win over Haynesville (#6 ranked 1A team in Louisiana) was impressive, as was their margin of victory (won by over 34 points per game) in conference play. HA was sporting a 3-4 record after week seven, but wins over conference bottom-feeders Rose Bud, Marianna, and Episcopal vaulted the Cats back over .500. Turley and Harlow are explosive receivers and Koch is an underestimated threat offensively as well. If Harding can protect the QB, they'll score 4 or 5 touchdowns......which won't be enough. Bet the over.....JC 54-27

The DC from that '05 game went into the Wall of Honor this year.  He's not on the current football staff, but he's still on campus.

But my point was that prior to that Harding game in 2005, JC pretty much had the reputation of having trouble with air-it-out teams.  Whether that reputation was deserved or not, that game put that reputation to rest.

Two things stick out to me. First is that y'all have only punted 7 times all year...wow quite impressive, but 2 isn't quite as impressive 63 for 118 passing for 1100 yds... yikes. Better hope you can run against everyone you face. And I know folks will say why pass when you don't have to, but there will come a point in time when someone will commit to stopping the run.

Dragon I

Don't you think everyone has committed to stopping the run?  Committing and accomplishing doesn't always work out.  They just have to complete enough to keep the safeties out of the box.  That's exactly what they do.

True. Competition will get tougher and tougher though.

dragondad

Smackover loaded the box and committed to stopping the run more than anyone else this season.....and was successful for a short period of time.  Had JC not been without their starting QB and others,  the success would likely have never began.
