Title: Harrison at PA
Post by: PA Dad on November 10, 2017, 09:42:46 pm
The West won the first round handily.  Now it gets harder.

Harrison made an impressive comeback from a 21-0 deficit against Lakeside.  They are really clicking on offense.  I expect them to score against PA.

The PA defense looked better than it has all year tonight.

Can Harrison throttle the PA offense?

This should be a good game.

Have to agree about PA defense tonight.   Next week will be exciting to see.

Harrison did have an impressive win tonight, they are playing well. I don't think the mercy rule will be invoked next Friday until well into the 3rd quarter.

Don't worry, Harrison's coach doesn't like the team to invoke the Sportsmanship rule if he can help it.  But we have to let them Sophomores play.

I, like everyone else in Arkansas, would love to see PA knocked off. Unfortunately for Harrison, and everyone else, Parkview happened. That game was the slap in the face that refocused PA. There is no one out there that can give them a game.

Harrison can't start slow this week, they would be buried if they do.
There are 8 teams left. Honestly any of them could beat P.A. if the stars align. Won't be easy and will be an earned victory. Interested to see how the goblins do in this match up

As a PA fan, I'm definitely concerned about Wynne. The ball control offense is scary. Which is not to say I chalking every other game up as a W, but Wynne scares me the most.

You guys should be concerned not scared but concerned.  That OL at Wynne is no joke.  I still see PA winning it all.  We recovered two onside kicks tonight and should have had another.

I think PA will actually need to score 48 plus too win this game.
PA faces a team this week that knows how to get points.

That's looking far ahead, of course, but we have heard about how good Wynne is all season long the last 2-3 years or more.  Then, when they get to the state title game against P.A. (once running the spread, once running the option), they get smashed.  It seems to me like no one has been talking about them quite as much this season as the last few, but they are still really good.  That no pass philosophy can help you or hurt you....get down by 2-3 scores against a team with a pretty good defense, and that one-dimensional side makes it really hard to come back....get up by 2-3 scores, and the clock management/ball control game can shut the other team down enough to win.  Should be interesting to see how they do Friday against Morrilton.

I commend people for trying to keep interest up. Playoff football is exciting, but reality is reality. I have had to eat the PA crow, it's horrible but you get over it. If PA doesn't win their 4th consecutive title by winning the rest of the games by mercy rule it will be a massive upset.

The PA backers are being gracious, hats off. But for them to say "I'm worried" or "what scares me" is like when an adorable 3 year old knocks on my door, dressed like a Zombie, on Halloween. As I hand them some candy I'll say "Ooh, how scary".

I don't like PA and hope Harrison wins, with that being said PA just scored the first points of this game

7-0 PA on Saturday.

Final will be something like,

PA - 76
Harrison - 21

In all seriousness at the moment, I just watched the VV@PA game on the link below.  Maybe someone else that has seen the Goblins play can verify what I saw.  You just need to see the first half.  I saw how the Bruins might could beat Harrison, but I swear I saw how the Goblins might could beat PA also.
Anyone else seen it?

There is actually no big secret to beating PA, unfortunately it's easier said then done. You have to out hit them, plain and simple. Thinking you can beat them by playing video game football is laughable. They are disciplined, precise and when it comes to passing, surgical. They are not physical. You've got to hit them and hit them hard. On defense they stay in gaps, know assignments and gang tackle. They do not hurt you. The only chance anyone has is to bring some plastic clacking pops to them. They are incredible but they are not physical. good luck with that, it's hard to a licking on someone when your chasing him from behind.

I agree in part.  PA has trouble with teams that are physical but only if they are also disciplined and smart.  McClellan is much more physical than PA but they are not as disciplined or smart.  On the other hand, Salt Lake City East was more physical than PA but was also as disciplined and played as smart as PA and handled PA easily.

It's hard to be a smash mouth team when you're as small as PA.

Watched the game again, I see where PA should do fine but I still see where the Goblins should be able to do good.  The only question remains is which Harrison team will show up, the team that played Greenbrier or the disciplined team that played the other 10 games.

Not counting the Greenbrier fiasco, Harrison only losses were by a touchdown with a PAT (+7 pt), a missed PAT (-1 pt) in that same 3rd week game and a missed 2 point conversion for the win against Alma (+1).  I agree with what was said about Harrison can not start late.  It might make for an exciting game when they start to catch up as in the LRCA, Morrilton, Alma, HS Lakeside games, etc but PA doesn't allow many teams to do that with their 1st squad out on the field.

Some will think that it is a Fairy Tale, but in all actuality, it is a true story.

(https://imageshack.com/i/poHhoafDj) far, far away in the mythical Natural State of the 5A,
where as the Central, East, South and West lands were justly ruled by the
Mighty Words of the AAA GODS,
a (https://imageshack.com/i/pnkp9Jswj) was happily walking down a path to The Rock
whistling a catchy tune when all of a sudden,
the Goblin came across a fork in the road.

The right path had a sign that read,
(https://imageshack.com/i/pmJOfsUNj)

The left path had a sign that read,
(https://imageshack.com/i/pnTSwSCaj)
The Goblin was trying to decide on which path to trod down
when he heard some giggling coming from behind a bush in the tall grass.
The (https://imageshack.com/i/pnkp9Jswj) looked and saw a (https://imageshack.com/i/pmYdxoexj) and a (https://imageshack.com/i/pnWyA1LMj) frolicking in the tall grass.
The Goblin said, "Hey you crazy mutts, quit chasing each others tails
and come over here and say hello".

The Airedale and the Devil Dog approached the Goblin
and they started their Old 5A West chant...

The Goblin said, "I'm one point better than a (https://imageshack.com/i/pnWyA1LMj)".

The Airedale said,  "I'm one point better than a (https://imageshack.com/i/pnkp9Jswj)".

The Devil Dog said, "I'm three points better than a (https://imageshack.com/i/pmYdxoexj)".

They all said in unison with smiles on their faces,
"and Da 'Briar Kitty is blue, not green".

The Goblin asked, "Which path are you guys going to take? The shortcut?"
The Airedale said, "The AAA GODS deemed that I was not worthy enough to take that path".
The Devil Dog said, "and I can't either because you have to have a special pass".
"A special pass?" asked the Goblin.
The Airedale said, "Yeah, a Golden Ticket for a Golden Goblin".
"We just happen to have one here from the AAA GODS to give you", commented the Devil Dog.
The Goblin stammered, "After all the tricks that I have pulled on you guys over the years
and you had the AAA GODS get me a special pass.  You guys are great!"
The (https://imageshack.com/i/pnkp9Jswj) took the Golden Ticket and skipped down the left path that read
(https://imageshack.com/i/pnTSwSCaj)

The (https://imageshack.com/i/pnWyA1LMj) said, "I don't think that he will ever forgive us".
"Should we put the real sign back in place?"
The (https://imageshack.com/i/pmYdxoexj) said, "Let's wait until we see if Da 'Briar Kitty comes this way".
So with that, they went back in the tall grass to their frolicking
and chasing each others tails while the real sign laid in the bush.

It read,

We need someone smarter than me to do that.  I can't even take a photo much less post it.  But surely someone will come who can do that.

Who else is in?

Funny thing is, I don't know a single of the PA posters on here. Looking forward to meeting them and some of our Goblin friends, and hopefully other fans/posters who come for the game.

I only know a few of them but one will be in the booth calling the game and the others rarely post but read everything, i will bring who I️ can round up whoever is available if they go. My son did a similar thing last week at lakeside, those kids swapped helmets for a pic, it was an awesome experience.

I have seen Harrison and PA boys play Basketball together, the one that comes to mind is the last time where PA makes the winning basket a couple of seconds before the start of the fifth overtime. :o
I have seen them in boys and girls Soccer also.  One game comes to mind, PA boys pull the win in a muddy downpour at Harrison in '07 during the Semi finals game to keep Harrison boys from a chance of going and winning a 6-peat State Championship.
Then there's the PA girl's in two of 3-peat Harrison girls Championship wins in the last three years.
I'm not sure of all the other sports, but those are just a few that I remember.
I thought that these two towns haven't played Football against each other, but I found this on fearlessfriday's  records.
Harrison vs Pulaski Academy
Current Record: 1-1-0
Date
2004  W, GOBS 24 - 16 L Bruins
2005  L, GOBS 14 - 38 W Bruins

So I guess that this is the Goblins chance in Football to stop the Bruins marching toward their 4-peat.

So is intelligentsia! And I'm technically from beautiful Jackson county.

Unfortunately, if I make a trip anywhere this weekend I'll be heading to Wynne. Maybe PA and Nettleton can win so I can catch the game the following weekend.

This should be a great HS football game.  Lets face it these are high school teenagers so both teams can lose games.  You never know what to expect from kids.  I do expect a hard hitting football game.  Being from Harrison I obviously hope for a Goblin win but more than anything I am excited to watch a first class ball game.  Best of luck to both teams. GO GOBS!!!

PA could score in the 100's in this game. Should be a lot of possessions with both teams style of play.

I will be pretty busy at 6:50.  I'll try to look for a couple of you before I go on the air around 6.

The Goblins need to score touchdowns on at least 4- five to six minute drives.  Limit penalties.  Win turnover battle (hopefully +3).
If so....Goblins win 48-47.

Recovering all onside kicks and stopping some 2-pt conversions works well also....AND, if you happen to get lucky enough to force them to punt once or twice that helps also.

After watching PA in the last game, I learned that it is not illegal for a player with Jersey# 50-79 to carry the ball.  Click the link below to see the rules.  I just wondered why more high schools beside PA doesn't do this more often when you need that 1 or 2 yards.

Not much to say about the game - if Harrison plays like they did against us, they could upend PA.  They are pretty stout up front and play good, disciplined defense in the secondary.

I think PA wins this game if, and only if, they are focused.  They were not focused in the Parkview game and could have easily lost that game.

Even if they are focused I don't see this as an easy win for PA.  I think Harrison will make it a close contest and I hope they do.

Husky is out but I can tell you it was NOT a late hit, even though there were plenty of those in the game.  It was a total freak accident.  It is a physical game and injuries happen.  That being said the Goblins are still gonna have some weapons...a few they haven't even shown I would bet.

I rewatched, the hit did get pushed out of bounds but the arm he stiff armed him with was blocking the kids view, #21 never would have wanted something like that to happened. He's a good kid.

Husky being hurt is terrible for Harrison.  I hate to hear that, because that kid is a game changer.  Trust me, Morrilton knows all too well about going into big playoff games and being wounded.

Some people might think that because one of Harrison's play-makers is out for this game that it is...
But not so fast my friend,  let's look at this from another perspective and I'll use both team's main play-makers for an example of the impact on a team on losing them for a game.  (I'm using the Maxpreps stats)  Let's put the shoe on the other foot and start with PA.
The Bruins have a fantastic Senior athlete, L. Hatcher.  He has accrued 4527 passing yards out of the 5059 passing yards done by all 6 players that passed the ball.  That is approx. 89.48% of PA's passing yards.  He had 56 rushing yards out of the 1359 rushing yards by all 13 players that rushed the ball.  That is appox. 4.13% of PA's rushing yards.  So he has a total of 4583 offensive yards out of PA's 6418 total offensive yards.  That is roughly 71.41% of the Bruins total offensive yards.  Like I said, fantastic Senior athlete.
What if he was injured early in the season?  Would PA still be where they are right now?  Maybe so, maybe not.  So what if he was taken out of the equation for this game due to injury?  He has been established as 71.41% of the Bruins offensive team, could they function with only 28.59% of their offensive threat left?  Maybe, it would be hard but I think that experienced Coach Kelley with 176 wins under his belt would have a contingency plan already in play.  But since L. Hatcher is healthy and G. Huskey is not, this still does not change the Harrison defensive plan one bit.  Now let's put the shoe back on the right foot.

The Goblins have a fantastic Sophomore athlete, G. Huskey.  He has accrued 1862 rushing yards out of the total 3333 rushing yards done by all 12 players that rushed the ball.  That is approx. 55.86% of Harrison's rushing yards.  He has 49 passing yards out of 1588 passing yards done by 3 players that passed the ball.  That is approx. 3.09% of Harrison's passing yards.  So he has a total of 1911 offensive yards out of Harrison's 4921 total offensive yards.  That is roughly 38.83% of the Goblins total offensive yards.  A fantastic Sophomore athlete.
What if he was injured early in the season?  Would Harrison be where they are right now?  Maybe so, maybe not.  But he is injured for this game.  He has been established as 38.83% of the Goblins offensive team.  Can they function with only 61.17% of their offensive threat left?  I think so but will still have to try to make up for that other 38.83% by utilizing our other playmakers more and I think that experienced Coach Wells with 182 wins under his belt will have a contingency plan for offense.
Hatcher and Huskey could not have got their stats this year without the help and talent of the rest of the offense and this still hasn't changed for Harrison even with Huskey out.  Gabe will be sorely missed and I know that every West team and fans, Mtn Home, Siloam Springs, LRCA, HS Lakeside, Coach Kelley, staff and Bruin players have either seen in person or have watched film on the speed, athleticism, raw talent that this Sophomore has.  I just wish that the PA fans and media for this game, could have witnessed him in person.
Now the big questions,
Could have the Goblins pulled out a win with Huskey healthy?  That is always a possibility on any Friday night.
Can the Goblins pull out a win without Huskey?  That is still always a possibility on any Friday night.  Coach Wells, staff and Goblin players know that Gabe helped get them to this game and that it has been since '03 since Harrison was in a quarterfinal game, so they will be ready to play even with one man down.  Win or lose, Goblins are more than one player, they are a team.

I have written my novel now and I wish both teams the best of luck in this game.

The good news for all the Harrison fans is since they are down in little rock for the game they can get their Christmas shopping done and save a trip to the big city........

All kidding aside I can't stand either one of these schools but it sure would be a great day for the little man if Harrison wins.

I saw the kid play this year. Tough hombre. This is highly disappointing. I wanted us to get Harrison at full strength.

It's liable to get ugly early. I think that kid was your best shot at making it a game.

Well if we gain 3-4 yards at a time vs his 8 yd a carry avg. tell me again how that benefits PA? The clock doesn't stop til there's a first down right? Just something to think about. If we are scoring on our drives, Huskey will not be needed. Don't get me wrong, he a a truly valued commodity but several different kids know how to get to pay dirt, hopefully he is healthy for next week. 🤔

Maybe... but you sometimes need that 8 yards to make up for a negative play.  One or two drives without scoring against PA can completely change the game if you can't keep PA from scoring themselves.  And then there are those constant onsides kicks.  If PA gets one or two of those... and scores, the point spread gets pretty difficult to overcome if you are getting 3 - 4 yards at a time.

That said, I really hate it for the kid and for Harrison that he is out.  Much like the game earlier this year against the Louisiana team; they lost their superstar QB and WR to injuries.  PA beat them badly enough that I doubt having them would have changed the final result, but I'm sure the score would have been closer and we'd have enjoyed the victory more knowing that we had beaten them at their best.

FYI - I haven't seen a down of Harrison football, so I have no idea what to expect.  If you all can pass the ball pretty well, then you have a good chance to score a lot of points.  Pass defense is definitely one of our biggest weaknesses this year.

This game had more players helping each other up and helmet taps than I've seen in a long while. Great season Harrison, I wish you had been at full strength tonight.

I second what other PA posters said.  The Harrison players are classy and great sportsmen.   So are the Harrison fans.  Man, they were loud and enthusiastic and I love that.  They also didn't boo the officials which is another sign of class.  PA recovered one onside kick that was touched by a PA player before it travelled 10 yards.  It was a pretty obvious call but the ball was awarded to PA.  I heard no boos from the Harrison fans.

I look for Harrison to be back in the thick of things next year.  Congrats on a great year.

We really appreciate the hospitality from all of you and we will see you all in 2 weeks at WMS. We will bring a change of clothes at half time so we fit in 😂. Really appreciate all the comments about my son and the class that our players have. That comes from great coaching(definitely didn't get that from me😂) my son and i have been tracking your athletes for a few years now and glad we finally got a taste of it. Prayers go out to your player, glad to see him get back out after the game and let me know where #4 goes to play. I got a place in mind for him if somehow he gets overlooked in the offseason. Great athletes on the field tonight. Nothing to be ashamed of on either side.PS Tell Coach Kelley i said he must be scared of the small kid on the field cuz he never threw it his way.😂Also Postal gimme a step by step of how to put in a picture or send me your email address to jonesin7@windstream.net, i got some pics to share

I am so proud of the boys and girl players on this Harrison team.  They have had a great 8-4 season this year sticking it out through thick and thin.  They are the first team in a long time that I have seen that really worked together as a unit and not for individual glory.  They are the ones that have gotten the Goblins to the Quarterfinals for the first time since 2003 when most of these players.had just learned to walk and talk.  A very classy and talented bunch of kids which a lot of them are Sophomores that played this year  and from what I heard is that we have some very talented 7th, 8th and 9th graders moving up.
Coach Wells has done a marvelous task of shaping this Goblin program since he arrived and I already can't wait until next year.
Now for basketball and especially for soccer to see if we can stay in first place of all of the boys/girls soccer teams in the State of Arkansas by getting that 13th State Championship trophy. ;)

Wanted to share our weekly photos with you all. Go to Facebook, type in Harrison Goblin Football, there's like 500 action shots from the game, they are all free for the taking for the families of the athletes who played last night. Save em, share em or just embrace the moments that these young men had. It was an honor to be a part of it, glad to meet so many PA posters and those pics are there too. Maynard, PAdad, yellowcake, all of ya, appreciate the hospitality, but this PA crow tastes aweful 😂

Maynard, I'm not sure if that's a good idea.  Remember what happened to your cousin Gilligan.

Sorry I missed the EndZone photo opp but fortunately I caught the lifestream from Maynard's yacht here 8)
