OVERVIEW
This "Old World" sport is "semi" new to America and also "semi" new to the State of Arkansas.  The following information and records are to put on to the Worldwide internet of what the Arkansas high school soccer teams have done from 1998 to present.
Though this is for informational purposes on fearlessfriday.com for Arkansas high school soccer to get a complete record of all conferences for all years from 1998 to present, but you may use this as a link or information for any Worldwide internet soccer site.

HISTORY
The Arkansas Activities Association (locally known as the AAA) is the primary sanctioning body for high school sports in state of Arkansas. AAA is a member association of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFSHSA). Every public secondary school in Arkansas is a de jure member of the AAA, and most private schools, save for a few schools in the delta that belong to the Mississippi Private Schools Association, are included in membership.
The Arkansas Activities Association, or "AAA," was originally founded in 1904 by seven high schools and colleges and was called the "Arkansas State Athletic Association." In 1912, the high schools separated from the colleges and became the "Arkansas Athletics Association." Membership increased rapidly, and eventually the name of the organization was changed to the "Arkansas Activities Association"
The AAA officially sanctioned Arkansas State high school soccer in 1998.
fearlessfriday.com officially started a Arkansas high school soccer forum in 2007.

Before the AAA sanctioned Soccer 1998:
Metro league was formed around '92, through the support of Parents. Girls could play for any "School" team they wished.  North Little Rock won the league in '94 and '95. Mount St. Mary finished second both years. In 1995 the Arkansas State Soccer Association hosted the first Arkansas Scholastic Soccer Cup (Not Sure if this was a league or tournament)..Doesn't say who competed in this League, just that Top 3 were 1. Fayetteville, 2. Ft Smith and 3. Mount St. Mary...North Little Rock did not compete.
1996: Mount St. Mary won the Metro League Regular Season and League Tournament. In the Arkansas Scholastic Soccer Cup League it finished 1. Fayetteville 2. NLR and 3. Mount St. Mary.
1997: Mount St. Mary won their second Metro League Title. The Scholastic Cup Featured Mount St. Mary, NLR, Fort Smith Southside, and Fayetteville. Mount St. Mary won the tournament and finished the year 20-0-1.

CONFERENCE CLASSIFICATIONS
1998 thru 2001 seasons there was one classification. There were regional tournaments held and 1 team from each of the eight regions qualified for state.  The 2002 season was the first for the 5a and 4a classification split.
Editing∆∆∆∆∆∆∆vvvvvvv
2006:  The highest classification was 5A (more commonly referred to as AAAAA). It consisted of the largest 32 schools in the state. Also, back then only two classifications competed in soccer, 5A and 4A. For the 2007 soccer season (2006-2007 academic year) the 5A classification was split into two, which is now 7A and 6A. The 4A classification back then (AAAA) was split into 5A and 4A (for soccer). Therefore, 7A state champions were actually called AAAAA state champions before 2007, and 5A state champions were called AAAA state champions.
Since 2006, the schools have been organized as follows.
Class 7A (16 largest schools)
Class 6A (next 16 largest schools)
Class 5A (next 32 largest schools)
Class 4A (next largest schools and also includes 3A, 2A and 1A that play soccer.)
Public and Private schools are both considered together as Arkansas high school teams.

Seasonal Team Record:
Each team can use their wins/losses/ties from non conference, conference and playoff games for their seasonal record.

Non Conference Games:
Each conference class teams are allowed to play a set number of non conference games in a season.  That number is decided by the AAA.  It can be against teams that are in the same sized school classification, but not usually from their conference or a higher/lower sized school classification or even a school from the neighboring border States.  Local tournaments between teams are also included as non conference games, except for preseason benefit games.  Ties in games are allowed.

Conference Regular Season Games:
(see each of the 7A/6A, 5A and 4A breakdowns below)
Ties during Conference Regular games:
If two or more teams are equal on wins and losses at the end of conference play, the following criteria is used to determine the final standings:
Greater number of wins in matches between the tied teams.
Greater goal difference (3 goals/gm) in matches between the tied teams (if more than two teams finish equal on points).
Greater number of goals scored in matches among the tied teams (if more than two teams finish equal on points).
Greater goal difference (up to 3 goals per game) in all conference matches.
Greater number of goals scored in all conference matches.
Coin flip.

State Playoff Games:
Each conference is allowed to decide how the certify their teams for the state tournament as follows:
12 top boys/girls teams from the 7A.
16 top boys/girls teams from each of the 6A, 5A and 4A conferences, but,
12 top girls teams from the 6A.
(see also the seeding breakdown on each 7A, 6A, 5A and 4A conferences below)

Pretty sure the 2004 7A boys runner-up was North Little Rock.  NLR had one excellent player that Conway assigned several good players to mark and neutralize.  It worked.

Thanks Sir Alex and Arbitro.  Updated that info.

Still missing 2 girls games in the 5A and 8 boys/9 girls games in the 7A.  Anyone else have any more input on these years?

Thanks, RC10.  I have updated the 7A boys and overall on the above info.  (Not sure what you mean by, AAAAA back then, because I have PA getting the 5A boys state runner-up in 2006.)

I still need info on state runner-ups on seven 7A boys and nine 7A girls before 2007.
I also need two 5A girls games (2005-06).  Sir Alex, fanofsiloam, can you help on this?

Surely from the final Championship game played in the years that I do not have for the 5A/7A state runner-ups:  Someone has a school record, or someone has a newpaper clipping, or was at the game, or played in the game, or officiated the game.  Someone should know something.

Thanks for your support to all schools, players, coaches, officials, and fans for the Arkansas Soccer Program.  We couldn't do it without you.  Prove to everyone that, "There Is Only One Worldwide sport"!

Is there anywhere to get stats on Arkansas High School soccer.     Most goals in a game team and indv.   Most assist in a game most saves I a game?   Just wondering

One of the most fundamental problems, Soccer72450, is the fact that very few schools keep soccer statistics - let alone publish them anywhere.  Then there is the matter of what AAA collects and publishes.

Remember, AAA can't even collect and publish standings so any effort made by AAA in their official record publication are going to depend solely on submissions from those who make the effort to complete and submit the reporting form.

Take a moment to look at the exhaustive effort AAA has put forth in collecting and maintaining the easiest record info (state titles) on page 48 of the record book.  It is pathetic.

Before 2007, the highest classification was 5A (more commonly referred to as AAAAA).

Thanks cif_ninetyfour, your help in this has been able for the utmost Arkansas State soccer championship/State runner-ups record to date on the internet.  The same to all the other posters previously.

There is some games still missing in the 5A girls and the 7A boys/girls games.  Surely someone has at least a newspaper clipping on who went to the finals on any given year in the 7A boys/girls or the 5A girls on the ones that I'm missing.

Before 2007, the highest classification was 5A (more commonly referred to as AAAAA).
Thanks for the clarification.  I will add it to this thread's 1st post on what you said, but will keep the current 4A-7A classes showing.

These wikipedia pages go back to 2007, although it seems they're only for 7A. Just created a wikipedia account today, RC10fearless. I will try to add scores and goalscorers to wikipedia as well as here. If we all contribute I'm sure we will have a great place to view Arkansas high school soccer stats!

That would be good.  Feel free to use any of the stats that I have posted to help you and please share any new info that you might find on the State Runner-ups.  Thanks!

The only problem that I have been having is finding the rest of the 1998 through 2006 for 7A boys/girls and for the two 5A girls games.  Can anyone find any newspaper archives for these games?  It could as least help if someone knows somebody who had a friend that might have made one of those games to at least say who was playing in those 7A/5A Championship games for those years.  If my math is correct, let's say a player was in the 1998 final game and they were let's say 18, then now 16 years later, they would be around 34.  Plus their parents/coach/fans were at the games.  Any input would be helpful.  It will only get harder as the years go by to find out who were in those games in the past.  I wish that I or someone else had started this information back in '07, it would have been updated by now.

I want to express my appreciation to all that have shared information to help get this far and hope that others will help add their information to complete this Arkansas Soccer history.

Before the AAA sanctioned Soccer Mt St Mary's competed in the Metro league, ('94 is the earliest I can find a reference to it)...NLR won the league in '94 and '95. Mt St Mary's finished second both years.
In 1995 the Arkansas State Soccer Association hosted the first Arkansas Scholastic Soccer Cup(Not Sure if this was a league or tournament)..Doesn't say who competed in this League, just that Top 3 were 1. Fayetteville 2. Ft Smith and 3. Mt st mary's...NLR did not compete.
1996: Mt St Mary's won the Metro League Regular Season and League Tournament. In the Arkansas Scholastic Soccer Cup League it finished 1. Fayetteville 2. NLR 3. Mt St Mary
1997: Mt St Mary's won their second Metro League Title. The Scholastic Cup Featured Mt St Mary, NLR, Fort Smith Southside, and Fayetteville. Mt St Mary's won the tournament and finished the year 20-0-1
1998 Runner-Up Mount St Mary's was 18-1-1...only loss was in the state finals.
1999 Runner Up was Mt St mary's...once again they were 18-1
2000 Runner up was...you guessed it Mt St Mary's, lost in a shootout after Regulation ended 1-1.
2001...Still Haven't found it...
2002...Fayetteville was the runner-up...

all of this information, which even without being a fan of soccer I'm finding this interesting, came from Mt St Mary's Soccer

*Edit...Metro league was formed around '92, through the support of Parents. Girls could play for any "School" team they wished.

Updated to date.  Thanks everyone for all the information that you have supplied.

HF, I added your historical information in the first post.

I have for State Runner-ups of 84 total games played since 1998, 80 games verified, but 3 boys 7A games and 1 girls 7A game still missing.  Four games left to be verified to complete this record.  Anyone have some more information on these games?

Guys, wikipedia pages are great. They are created so ANYONE can edit them. This is the page for this year's 7A season: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Arkansas_High_School_7A_Boys_Soccer_Season. So far all scores have been updated, but this wiki article has room for more. Take a look at the 7A West section, most goalscorers have been added and it looks great.

I am glad users here have shown interest in the history of high school soccer in the state of Arkansas. But like I said, let's ask for more. Why stop at state runner-ups? Let's try and gather individual stats, regular season matches, regional brackets (1998-2003), etc. I actually have all the state brackets since 1998, but am still missing several regional brackets from the early years. I also recently discovered the internet archives website (thanks HF!) so I'm hoping I can now create wiki pages for seasons before 2007, since I couldn't before since you need to have legitimate sources to create a wiki article and for some reason AAA doesn't have seasons before 2007 archived.

I'm glad the wiki pages have caught people's attention. I just came across this page for this year's 5A season: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Arkansas_High_School_Soccer_5A_Soccer_Season

So what do you guys think?

One quick note for the history buffs is that in the early 2000's, instead of pks the AAA used the MLS shoot out to decide tied  games.  I can't remember when they went back to pks but the shoot out was not long lived, maybe a couple of years at the most.

I created the 5A Wikipedia page for this season this past weekend. I'm glad it was finally uploaded and view-able to the public! I had to wait four days after I created it to move it, and it was finally moved. I'm excited that the history of our great sport is finally being recognized!

As an addend, I am trying my best to stay on top of ALL (boys and girls) 5A action here on the site so that I can update it accordingly on Wikipedia. I haven't updated the stats for the games this week, but I most certainly will.

I just made a few edits, I added an infobox at the beginning, a couple references (which are a must on Wikipedia), and added a Title change request. The title is currently 2014 Arkansas High School Soccer 5A Soccer Season; I’m assuming you meant to put 2014 Arkansas High School 5A Soccer Season. I was also thinking about having the boys’ season and girls’ season be two separate articles or at least be on different sections on the current one, what do you think?

Thank you for the help, ninetyfour! It is greatly appreciated! I completely did not see the error in the title, so a change is definitely necessary there.  As for separating the boys' and girls' seasons, how about we do them in different sections in the same article? That way, we save the time we would spend making an entirely new article, and we wouldn't have to request a second name change.

That’s fine. The advantage of having them in separate articles is that we can then link them to each other and help eliminate that “orphan tag” on top of the article.  I also added a 2013 season link in the infobox, which can also help eliminate the orphan tag if a page for that season is created.

Thanks everyone on the info that you have supplied.  I will update this forum info as soon as I get a chance.  Even though this forum isn't really a wiki, it is starting to be a one stop shop on fearlessfriday for Arkansas high school soccer and it is still a work in progress...

I will also start putting reference links that you have supplied and that I have found.  So that everyone can go to those sites for more information than I have put here.

A couple of things that I would like to add is maybe a little more history of Arkansas high school soccer.
And I want to add onto the Classifications part about how the 7A/6A, 5A and 4A classifications are broke down.  For instance, I know how conference play and playoffs are broken down for the 5A, but I'm not sure on how the 7A/6A and 4A is broken down for conference play and is there then a regional playoff and then a each respectful conference playoffs for each 7A, 6A and 4A State Champ?

Any help would be useful not only to me but to anyone else that didn't understand how conference/regional/divisions work for seeing how what team goes to the State playoffs.

When I thought about doing this forum back last summer and also told sevenof400 and Sir Alex during last basketball season on what I was going to do, I thought that it would be a easy copy/paste forum.  Little that I knew then...  It is a easy to copy/paste info, but finding the correct info, even on the internet would be so hard.  You guys give yourself a pat on the back for finding the info so that we can supply this information and info links to all the Arkansas soccer fans, now and in the future.  Thank you guys once again!  Go Postal

Special thanks to sevenof400 for pinning this thread on the soccer forum for me.  Hopefully it will stay there indefinitely for future generations.
(side note: of course if you see any info that I have put incorrectly, let me know.)

Not a soccer fan(I've really tried to watch it, just can't do it..lol)...but glad to have helped with some history of a high school sport in Arkansas.

Just out of curiousity have you tried contacting the AAA about this information your after? I've never done it myself, but you would think they'd at least be able to point you to a credible source to get it all..If you go this route let me know how it goes. I've considered doing this for basketball in the past(mainly region/state stuff)...but it's a bummer to find most of that as well..

HF, I quite understand.  I use to not understand how soccer was played, until my son played for a very well coached and talented Harrison Goblin's team.  For instance...
1.  Why do they kick the ball backwards from the goal?
2.  What the heck is "offsides"?
3.  Why is the clock still running when play on the field has stopped?
4.  How come they play only two halves and not four quarters/periods?
5.  Was that slide tackle, legal?
These were just a few of the questions that I had before I learned the game.  I found out that if you think of it as a basketball offense/defense strategy on a larger than football field helps a lot on how the game is played.  Talent of the soccer player:  A quarterback might can throw the ball anywhere perfectly to his receivers or a basketball player might can pull a 3 pointer from anywhere on the court, but can they kick or use their head to put the correct spin/curve on the short/long pass or doing the same, to make the goal, let alone the footwork/bodywork to get past a defender.  I have found that, even though some teams are great, in the World Cup or MLS don't disregard soccer on just that kind of play style.  Start small.  Watch two great boys or girls high school teams battling it out with great physical game play and great talent, then you might get hooked.  But first learn the strategy and rules of the game and yes, in soccer, they play in high school 80 minutes continually in two halves.  I am always impressed on the stamina of these kids.  I have to admit (even though I have seen some great high school/MLS/World Cup soccer games over the years) that one of the best games that I saw was last years semi game.  5A South De Queen vs 5A West Harrison.  What a shootout.  Very physical, very talented, very fast paced offensive/defensive game.  Anyway, though I love football, basketball and soccer, all I am saying, try to a least see a GREAT soccer game.

For your consideration...
Soccer is a Old World Sport, if not a religion.  America is starting to get a lot of recognition from the rest of the World.  One of the best commercials that I have seen on showing the talent/ability of a soccer player is linked below.  I have seen over the years this talent/ability/moves in a lot of the Arkansas high school soccer boys/girls players. :o 8)

Another for your consideration of the training/moves/wins/losses/moving up of a soccer player. ;)

I love football and basketball, but I have learned to love soccer also.  Not sure in Pope county of who to see, but diffidently see a two great rivals match whether it be in 7A on down to 4A, then watch some playoffs games on all the conferences.  You might be impressed on these Arkansas athletes in this sport.  As I said earlier on this World sport, if not a World religion, America has been making a statement to them.  It starts with a States soccer program and evolves from that.

Anyway, Arkansas does have some great boys/girls athletes in this sport, but I do understand your confusion on this sport and I have another vid for your consideration...

Updated to this point, still a work in process.  I need the red bolded info from anyone that can give me info.  Will be appreciated.  Still working on references also.  Great Job by everyone!  Of course, if you see any mistakes, let me know.

I've watched the American Coach in London clip before...got some good laughs out of it.

Anyway...Good Luck on the 4A playoffs, as each conference decides how to qualify their teams. That sounds kinda crazy, cause what if they decide to send teams based on say...Number of Attempts on Goal(Is that a soccer stat? Might be a hockey one...idk lol)..

And now that I look, all the conferences get to decide? Why can't they just be like a "normal" American sport and just be all well, you went undefeated your the 1 seed...you lost least amount of games your the 2 etc...This is what happens when you allow ties :D

Sorry no ties in Arkansas high school soccer!!!  By not allowing a point for a tie , you have all these weird situations come up.
Just my two cents.

I believe that coach cleats is right, no ties in conference play.  It goes to PKs.  Though I'm not a fan of this (see the last Harrison@Greenbrier game.  2-2 in regulation, GB wins 4-2 in PKs to win the 1st West seed), I wish that they bring back the golden goal or death match before PKs for a win, though I understand why the AAA shortened a 80 minute game, then overtime, then maybe PKs for the win due to the many miles that Arkansas athletes and fans have to travel.

Since the 2008 season, ties are no longer allowed in conference play. From 2008 - 2010 tied games after regulation went to overtime, and if still tied they would then go to pks. From 2011 to present time, tied games go directly to a penalty shootout.

Ah...Good...just assumption on my part...

for the record Go_Postal...4A-1 is the only conference in 4A to have a district tournament...the others go off regular season finish. That's from the 4A thread itself to..

If ties were allowed we would avoid all these tie-breaking criteria nonsense. I never saw any confusion on seeding back in the day when Arkansas high school soccer followed the same format as ‘real’ soccer: 3 pts for a win, 1 pt for a tie, 0 for a loss. Rarely would the next criterion be used (head to head) to separate teams. I would get more into why not allowing ties is as ridiculous as soccer can get, but I believe there was a whole thread about that a while back.

Cif94:  you are correct.  It was the powers that be and a couple of schools that decided that all sports should be conducted in the same manner, meaning no ties in the other sports so no ties in soccer.  There must be a winner in all conference games.  So here we are six years later and we have all kinds of tiebreakers going on. LOL....

Cr@p, I got a error message from fearlessfriday on the original post saying that I had over 20,000 characters in a message (didn't know this). LOL.  I condensed that post and deleted (but saved) the 2013 State playoff stats.  Maybe I should start a thread for playoff stats starting in 2013 to the future.  Just a thought. ;)

1.  Anyway I updated the classifications on what you guys gave me.  If anything is wrong, please let me know.  Thanks.

2.  If everything that I wrote is correct, the next step is in the 7A/6A conference.  Power ratings, whatever, to determine how the 7A/6A conference is played and how does the 7A or 6A are determined who goes to the playoffs.  Any help is useful.

3.  This didn't start as a "wiki", but has evolved to being a complete Arkansas Soccer information center on fearlessfriday.  Maybe I should rename this thread to "Arkansas Soccer for All Conferences from 1998 to present". What do you soccer guys and gals fans think?

Still a work in progress...

Personally I think you should
A. put it on wikipedia or something like that, and get it linked to here for everybody....
-or-
B. Maybe convince the powers that be on FearlessFriday to give you guys a soccer page?
-or-
C. A small webpage dedicated Information/history/standings for Soccer in arkansas...but then I don't think you could link that to FearlessFriday?

Thanks HF, I'll look into on how to do a "wiki".

Firstly, I changed the title to be more appropriated with the info posted.
Secondly, I think that I finally almost completed this informational soccer thread and can just add State Champs and State Runner-ups as the years go by.  Of course the AAA can change any of the rules in any cycle change and I will try to implement that. ;)
Please everyone involved in creating this informational thread or has read it, reread it over again and please let me know by PM or on this thread if I made any mistakes on the stats or got confused on how the 7A/6A and 4A is broken down.  I wish that every conference could be as easy as determining the playoffs as the 5A, but Oh Well.
Thirdly, If all is correct, then I want to make sure that I have all of your soccer reference links posted on this thread.  Be it "wiki" or other sources.  It would be easier to link them together If you posted them on THIS thread and not PM me.
Fourthly, I hope that the fearlessfriday moderators (sevenof400, Lanny and B.G.) keeps this thread pinned on the soccer forum from now and in the future for soccer informational purposes.  Heck, maybe the AAA might take notice and can even use this soccer information on their site.
Once again, Thank you to all that was involved on getting this information!
