Speaking just from the boys side.
The funk is from having to play far superior teams from 5a. At least you will not have to worry about that in the district tournament.
The 6a schools have won a combined 0 games against the 5a schools in that blended conference. :'(

Definitely! All 3 of those teams are very good. I didn't realize they would be in your district tournament. That is brutal!

When you say starters were pulled by the 15th minute, was this before the 6th goal was scored? Or after the mercy rule was enacted? Perhaps maybe they should have been pulled when they were up 4-0, and then once the 6-0 mark was reached maybe reducing the amount of players on the field all the way down to 7.
I've seen several game scores posted on here above 12-0. I guess scores where teams are beat by over twice the mercy rule are a good formula for building the sport in this state?
Can't speak for all of the lopsided games held in high school in Arkansas, but from the perspective of our team only. We've had a few of these crazy scoring games this season; our coach always/usually pulls our varsity after 4 or 5 goals. However, our JV will continue to score.
Coach can enforce stipulations such as # of passes before a shot, or build from the back with no stolen passes, etc, but short of instructing JV kids not to shoot; it's a difficult situation to be in from both sides. It's not pretty to watch. That's why I hope the restructuring of the conferences next season will help alleviate these games.

I agree. It's disheartening to lose by such a lopsided margin, but it's not easy telling kids that never get to play to not score. On a personal note, I actually think it's even more disrespectful to stop shooting altogether. Give a set number of passes or try out different formations, but it's incredibly patronizing to kick a goal-scoring chance out for a goal kick or just play keep away. Keep in mind, the winning team isn't the only one at fault for letting the game turn into a blowout. All-in-all, a mercy rule that ends the game immediately after halftime is really the only surefire way to alleviate this, and that comes with its own problems.
