Title: Long breaks between games.
Post by: Buck183 on March 28, 2018, 08:54:00 am
I was looking over several schedules and scores over the last couple days.  One thing stood out to me.  Several teams don't play a game for as much as two weeks due to Spring Break.  Seems like lots of teams played their last game on March, 15th and don't have a game scheduled again until March, 29th.  Even noticed a couple that played their last on the 15th and don't play again until the 2nd or 3rd.

Am I the only one that thinks this is counter productive and excessive?  Why not have a game or two early this week against a non conference opponent to get warmed up for the conference grind?  It's not like we need an All Star break or anything.

I know in Dardanelles case they were supposed to play last night but weather didn't permit it. So they will now have 2 weeks between games when they play Vilonia tomorrow.

I know Harrison girls played over Spring Break, but I'm not sure if any other schools did. I would imagine most take that entire week off from games due to players having trips or something planned. We practiced over Spring Break for the ones who were in town, but didn't play obviously.

A little rest definitely isn't a bad thing, especially for those kids who need to heal up nagging injuries and such.

I get laying low during spring break and getting ready for conference.  I get recovery time.  What I don't get is some teams not having any games for the entire week following spring break or waiting until Friday of this week before they play.

Could be a multitude of reasons for that. Perhaps coaches waited too long to schedule and everyone was booked, or they were restricted on how far they could travel for non-conference matches, or they just didn't want to have a full schedule to reduce the chances of injuries and fatigue before the postseason. All speculation, of course.

I like speculation.
