Two search tools: one good...the other.....

I spent some time today trying to find an old thread with the google search tool located at the top of the page (just above the hello message).  That search tool leaves much to be desired.

For some reason, I assumed the search tool in the banner at the top of the page (located between Help and Profile) was the same.  I know now it is NOT.  The search tool in the banner is far more powerful (part of this is the availability of advanced searching). 

For what it may be worth, if you are trying to locate an old thread on FF, the search tool in the banner seems to work much better.
