Lets keep it all here.

AirWarren

Sad day for the Razorback Nation.

Not only for losing coach, but for everyone to have to go through such a thing from BP to the fans. Let's try to rebound and win some games this year.

WPS.

DogsWin7

Jeff Long made the hardest decision probably of his career.  It is sad for the student athletes to have a role model such as their HC to have acted in such a way that it ended his career but also, it damaged the relationships that a HC makes professionally and personally.

True Believer

I'm proud of Jeff Long.   Hog Nation will pull together and be stronger than ever.

Sometimes doing the right thing is not the easiest thing to do, but it's always the right thing to do.  There are still men of integrity and character in this world.  One of them is named Jeff Long.

Good luck going forward Mr. Long.

AirWarren

Something good will come out of this.

BP brought this program back to national prominence. That is the good of it. Someone will see what we have going on and snatch it up. This isn't the end of the hogs. We have been through worse.

We will land a home run.

Coach DePriest, Sheridan

Some thoughts....

1. Proud to be a Razorback fan.  I would have loved for Bobby Petrino to be our coach next year, but that just couldn't be.  We took the moral high ground and Jeff Long made a national name for himself tonight by the way he handled the entire situation.

2. Petrino has left this program much better than where he found it.  Petrino was a grand slam hire and we were lucky to get him.  The timing is weird and it will be interesting to see how we approach this, but I really think we will get another great one in here.

3. I'm proud of Razorback fans.  Probably a tribute to Jeff Long's approach, but as disappointed as many of us are, I haven't heard many saying we made the wrong decision, especially when Long brought up more details about the situation.

Can't go wrong doing the right thing.  Proud of Jeff Long, and proud to be a Razorback.

Keep calm and call on.

GOD BLESS Jeff Long and the RAZORBACKS!

I refuse to bash Bobby.  He's human.  I believe he loved his team, this state and being a Razorback.  He had a hot young girl come on to him and he just couldn't resist.  He's probably turned many other J. Dorrells down in the past.  This one was just too much to refuse at the time.  He should've turned her down again.  In hindsight, I'm sure that he wishes he had.  I think he is still the same guy that stood up to a punk wearing a gator hat in his press conference.  He's still the same guy that valued his young men enough to break under the spotlight when one of them passed away.  He's still the guy that took this program from an absolute mess to a national power.  So, though I am disappointed, I won't bash him.  I wish him well.

+1  WPS forever

Kazimierz

It has already been said... but I will echo some sentiments.

1. Couldn't be more proud of Jeff Long. He did what was best for the University and (in a state this size) the state of Arkansas.  Arkansas has raised the bar... it is really hard to do in the SEC... but they put Ethics and Morals above the popular choice of winning games. This is the message all adults should be sending to our children and student-athletes.

2.  Petrino biggest mistake (just like a former president of our's) wasn't having an affair. It was the lie he told. It is easy to Monday QB this thing... but if Bobby would have disclosed his relationship then he would still be the HC of the UofA.

3.  Despite #2. Petrino (and as Jeff Long pointed out, our student athletes) have done this University a great service over the past two years. The program is hitting on all cylinders and is poised to take it to the next level. Oh... what could have been.

4.  Echoing #2. My father always told me this... and I have always lived by it. "If you screw up... and I don't care how bad... we can get through it, so long as your honest.  But, if you lie about it, cover it up, or conveniently omit something... then how do you expect me to trust you again?... Son, liars always get caught in the end. So, fess up... take your licks... and move on."

MHSGrad

I have a different spin on it, being that I am, in no way, a razorback fan.. With that said, after yesterday and the response that followed, I am truly impressed and humble to have Arkansas in the SEC. Arkansas fans, sometimes more than others, are quick to jump off the band wagon and point fingers, but, after the overwhelming positive response that Long got yesterday, I say Bravo. He did the right thing for the players, fans, future recruits and their families, and for NCAA. With all the trouble, the recruiting violations that have occured, sanctions, etc., it is good to see someone put moral victories over football victories. HE is what our athletes should strive to be like. +1 to Jeff Long.

Now, Petrino. I never wish ill will on anyone, but it just seemed like karma caught up with him. Lying gets you no where. Im just hoping this is all he has lied about, and nothing else comes of his lying. You can only run away from bad character for sooooo long before it catches up. He was one helluva football coach, and people make mistakes, but this was inexcusable. I really hope Arkansas learns from this, moves on, and powers forward.

Phone records have been released.

pantherblue

Why?? What on earth good are the phone records?  Who cares??

Uncle Ivan

Disappointed and betrayed are the best way I can put it.

pantherblue

The man was fired. Do you just want released videos of him and her together to bury him now??

True Believer

Just shows how  long they have been talking.  She texted him one hour into the Cotton Bowl game.

pantherblue

He admired the affair and he's fired. End of story.

True Believer

Oh yeah!!   I think releasing that video would be great!!!

Let's see it!!!

Dear Lord.

LOL.

As usual, very good posts above from Kazimierz and MHSGrad.  I would only like to nitpick in a humble manner one word both of you used in reference to BP - "mistake".  I thought Rick Schaeffer said it very well today.  I can't quote verbatim but it went something like this:  BP did not make a mistake.  He made a conscious decision.  A mistake is a ground ball going between the second baseman's legs.

I also have used the word "mistake" many times today during my "watercooler" discussions, but I have to agree with Rick.  What BP did was not a mistake but a series of decisions with specific intent which really does increase the seriousness of the offenses.

Not meaning to nitpick but I thought Rick's point did add to the discussion.

I also feel bad for the new assistant coaches who left other positions to start their Arkansas coaching careers.  The uncertain future that they and their families now face is an added stress that I'm sure they could have done without.

Texarkana_Piggie

it's like i try to get my students to understand.....when you get in trouble, it's not my fault.  you are the one who made the poor decision to break a rule, so you have to pay the consequences.
bp made several poor decisions and broke rules and now has to pay the consequences.

1. Jeff Long wanted to keep Bobby. But it was to much damage done, even by SEC standards. He had no choice but to fire him. It cut him like a knife to do it. I give him credit for doing the right thing in the face of adversity.

2. Bobby Petrino is a great football coach. He put Arkansas football back on the National scene. He will never be FORGOTTEN !

3. Bobby Petrino is a selfish, lying, dishonest and scheming person. His track record as a human being is tattered and repeated at every coaching stop he's made. You will reap what you sow. He used the University of Arkansas and his power to take full advantage in ruining his personal life. At 51 years old you do not become a SUGAR DADDY at the UA's expense. Kicking out 20 thousand dollars to a 25 year old female is STUPIDITY in it's finest moment. Handing her a job so you can cat tail around at work with her is IDIOTIC as well. As much as I like Bobby, he has disgraced the University of Arkansas, the State of Arkansas and the RAZORBACK NATION as a whole.

4. I know he who is without sin cast the 1st stone.  This ain't really about that. He was a Stupid Sugar Daddy who has single handily shot the program to the stars and sunk it in one swing !

5. Thanks for the football Bobby. For the love of God man get your personal life in order !

I, like many, were in BP corner, until Jeff Long's press conference. The fact that on Tuesday, BP had his own press conference, and could have "come clean" then, but continued to lie and decieve, did it for me. It was time for Jeff L0ng to do what he done. Do you think we could get men of character like Long into politics??? Hope BP's fling was worth 20+million dollars and the adulation of 95% plus of the population of Arkansas. Praying he gets his life right.

Amen. The separation anxiety is over for me. He showed me that mistakes he made more than justified the high road route by Jeff Long. Kudos for someone finally doing what is right.

awe heck .... it was easy to see where this thing was going from the get go,

Only blind hog fans could yell out about second chances....casting stones etc.

If you would of pulled off the blinders you would of known who the man was during the LSU game.

So you knew he was having an affair, and would then have wreck with his mistress on the back of a motorcycle. Then I quess you also knew he had hired this mistress. Nothing about te LSU game or anything he did before this would anyone have thought it would go like this. Maybe some would have thought he would have left in the middle of the night for another program or something like that but not this. if you knew this was coming your phsycic. The LSU game just means he was an butt and hes not the first coach to get upset and yell at another coach when hes getting his butt kicked am pretty sure.

Garbage.

Honestly now, for all the reasons why Petrino would be gone, did anyone remotely think it'd be because of a sex scandal?

Be honest.

Yes ! This isn't his first affair. I like Bobby. But off the top I knew he was a womanizer, a schemer and a cheat. BUT.......... He could coach ! The fact he was dropping 20 grand on a chick didn't surprise me at all.  Pimping aint easy ! Being a SUGAR DADDY has it pitfalls. Still he was one heck of a coach ! The guy blew it playing the one game he'll never win.

Man you guys must live in caves or with bags over your heads. You can't spot a "PLAYA" when you see one ? Bobby P is a "PLAYA "  !!!! Always has been. Power & Money can create the easiest two headed monster. Family man at HOME, PLAYA when he's in the streets ! Rick Petino, John Calipari & Bobby Petrino are all cut from the same cloth.

Man this just kills me...I absolutely hated HDN and was at the point of giving up on Razorback football until BP was hired. Seeing him go really hurts. The guy could flat out coach. I too was in his corner until other facts came out. I hate to see the guy go, but Long did the right thing in the end...but I still hate watching BP go...I just hope we get a good replacement...

I notice that Deadspin is calling this mess "Ozark Chappaquiddick", which is misleading.  Petrino didn't kill the girl and get off scot free.
