I know that this is the way the 7-4A teams finished in the tournament but are they the top teams in your opinion and are you going to do a preview and prediction of all the games WPS like you did last year during regionals you did a awesome job of it.

~WPS~

On the boys side it's the way it should be. On the girls side Nashville is better than Ftn. Lake (beat them by 16 and 17 this year) but Nashville missed about 15 free throws tonight and Ftn. Lake played better.

Before the games start Wednesday I'll have a preview posted.

BobKat

what are yalls predictions?
Mine are all 8-4A girls teams will beat the 7-4A in the first round. For the boys, I have only Malvern advancing to the next round with Dumas, Monticello, and Dollarway from with 8-4A.

sportsguy80

Keep an eye on the Dumas vs Nashville game. Should be very interesting since the scrappers pushed Malvern until late in the championship game. Also, Dumas is playing at home.

sportsguy80

On the girls side, SC may win every game by double digits but who knows. I think they are playing on a whole other level right now. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't get challenged until state.

BobKat

This is for Sportsguy80. I was thinking the same thing which is why I think Dumas boys and girls will beat Nashville.

itsslim

bobkat what are u basing your predictions off of? is the 8 4a just a better conference or is 7 4a not a very good conference? Nashville girls and Ft. Lake girls have very impressive records. not disagreeing with u, just asking

BobKat

Of course Star City will win and Monticello will also. I think Dumas will win because of the home court advantage. Records don't matter anymore in the playoffs, everybody is now 0-0. I don't think anyone from Fountain Lake can stop the guard from Dollarway which will be why they will win.

itsslim

lol yea can't argue with those statements

Ftn. Lake has a guard that in my opinion is the best all around player in 7-4A.

If that's the case the dollarway guard Sanders is a real good on also should be a good game

Will Dumas or anyone else be live streaming the tournament?

nfhsnetwork/Dollarway will be streaming games with video and commentary

Guys I am looking forward to a great tournament!!  No since in telling y'all who my pick to win it is on the girls side, can't help it I'm a homer!!!  With that being said SC over Malvern. I believe Monticello handkes Bauxite.  The two games that are going to be interesting to watch are between Dumas/Nashville and Fountain Lake/Dollarway. Dumas girls are going to have their hands full with Nashville even at home. If they will play together for four quarters they can make a game out of it!!  We only beat Nashville by eight the first week of the season and they have done nothing but get better. Dollarway plays well if Sandwrs is playing well and they play bad if she is playing bad period!!  If Fountain Lake has someone that can slow her down offensively FL wins big if they can't shut her down it will be a close one.
My picks to go to state are SC, Nashville, Monticello,& FL.
I think it will be Monticello and Malvern in the boys final and it should be a good one!!

Billie Blue

Well I'm going to give my predictions for the first two nights games of regionals  the first game I'm going with the upset dollarway over ftn lake especially if dollarway big girl plays they can upset Ftn lake   sanders will get hers and if the big gets hers could be a upset  the next game Malvern big over Hamburg hamburg won the first round last year but doesn't have the talent that they had last year  game number 3 Star City  big over Malvern Coach Becky brown has them on a  mission wouldn't be surprised to see them in hot springs game number 4 I guess I could be called a homer  to BD92 I'm going with Monticello by double digits Thursday night I see our girls winning by six against a good bauxite team the next game dollarway boys over Ashdown by double digits the next game Dumas girls versus Nashville even though Dumas girls are at home don't see them winning this one  and the last game for Thursday night I'm going to have BobKat  upset but I think both home teams will lose the first round

win or lose I think our teams will give Nashvilles teams some good competition

~WPS~

I expect both Nashville/Dumas games to be the best games of the 1st round.

Sports Guru

Expect Hamburg to lose big to Malvern. The Leopards 26-2 to the Lions 11-15.

You can throw records out at this time of the year.

~WPS~

Regardless of the records Malvern will win by as many as they want.

sportsguy80

We have to remember that if you don't win the first game then your season is over regardless of how hard the team has worked or their record. A bad game is all it takes but I'm not saying it will happen. It's the reality along with the beauty of tourney time.

~WPS~

The time has come for my annual previews for the south regional. They will be included in the two posts to follow.

Thanks to Billie Blue and Bulldog92 for the info they provided.

As always I'm sure I left out something important about a team so feel free to comment and post your predictions. Good luck to all the teams. This should be a fantastic tournament.

Boys Preview

(1st 7) Malvern (25-2)  vs  (4th 8] Hamburg (11-15)
Malvern is led by UALR signee Andre Jones. Jones lives up to the hype and plays like you would expect a D1 player to do. Jones transferred from LR McClellan after leading them to a 5A state title last year and earning MVP. Malvern has size, they are rangy, and quick. Because of those qualities they play very good defense. You earn the points you score. Malvern has more than just Jones which doesn't allow opponents to focus only on him. Malvern also has PG (Moore) and combo guard (Hughes) that are good shooters. Malvern does not settle for shots, they want to get close to the basket, but can hit from deep if needed. They thrive in transition and want to turn you over. Hamburg will not have enough weapons on offense to pull the upset and will have to take care of the ball to keep it within 20. This game should go as expected and Malvern should have little trouble.
My pick:  Malvern by 22

(1st 8] Monticello (21-2)  vs  (4th 7) Waldron (18-10)
Monticello begins their defense of the state championship. They return 2 starters from last year's title team, including the championship game MVP. Monticello is similar to Malvern in a lot of aspects. Defense is the kickstart for the offense. Points off turnovers and transition offense makes Monticello tough to beat. Monticello is led by PG (Nolen) and wing (Franklin), who both excelled in postseason play a year ago. Waldron is led by 2 guards (Fanick and Wadkins) that are good outside shooters. They struggled late in the season and drop to 4th after being tied for 1st at one time. Most teams have figured Waldron out and employed a better defensive gameplan. If hot from 3 Waldron can make this a game, Malvern's only conference loss was because of this. Regardless, Monticello should not have any trouble moving on.
My pick:  Monticello by 25

(2nd 8] Dollarway (21-5)  vs  (3rd 7) Ashdown (10-11)
Dollarway is loaded athletically. They like to press and turn the game into a track meet. Dollarway has a few decent outside shooters, but like to drive to the bucket.  The Cardinals are led by post (Douglas) who is a force inside scoring and on the boards. Dollarway also has a guard (Hunter) who is a good outside shooter that possesses the ability to drive and score.  Ashdown will struggle inside with Douglas as it lacks a strong post player. Ashdown is led by 2 players that have the ability to take over a game, Northcross and Hill. Ashdown also has a deadly 3 point shooter and Dollarway will have to put a hand in his face. Both teams like to get up and down the court. This should be a good matchup and a fun game to watch, but Dollarway has more weapons and should get the win.
My pick:  Dollarway by 14

(2nd 7) Nashville (16-8)  vs  (3th 8] Dumas (20-6)
This will be the best game of the 1st round. Nashville has had an up and down season, finishing strong and claiming 2nd. The Scrappers are led by their PG (Hopkins), a 3 point shooter (Walton) and 2 posts (Spencer and Odgen). Hopkins is quick off the bounce and can get to the basket and make plays. Dumas has a 6' 6" center (Scott) that is a shot blocking, rebounding specialist. This will create an interesting decision for Nashville, whether to drive on Scott and hope to draw contact or to stay outside and work the ball around. Nashville has struggled at times to rebound and must be physical inside. Dumas also has a couple of good guards that can make plays. Dumas will have the home court advantage and that could play a factor, especially early if Nashville doesn't settle in. Unless one team plays a great game or a bad game, this one will come down to the wire.
My pick:  Nashville by 3

Girls Preview

(1st 7) Fountain Lake (21-7)  vs  (4th 8] Dollarway (18-14)
This will not be a typical 1 vs 4 matchup. Both teams are led by 2 players. Ftn. Lake is led by a guard (Womack) and a post (Lee). Womack is arguably the best all-around player in 7-4A. She is an excellent ball handler and creates off the bounce. Lee can be a big scoring threat if not defended well and is the favorite target for Womack. Dollarway is led by guard (Sanders) and a post (Alexander). Sanders is arguably the best all-around player in 8-4A, and like Womack, is a play maker. Both teams drop off after their two leaders. This should make for an excellent game and matchup between those 4 players. Perhaps a star will take over the game for her team, or maybe another player will step up and help the team to victory.
My pick:  Fountain Lake by 1

(1st 8] Star City (26-2)  vs  (4th 7) Malvern (13-13)
Star City enters the postseason after cruising through the 8-4A once again. The LadyDogs are loaded with talent and primed for another run at a state title. Malvern's glory days are over but the Leopards will not go down without a fight. An outside shooter (Walsh) and athletic post player (Vaden) could keep this one within range. Star City has not been involved in a game with a final margin closer than 20 since December. Star City has also beaten 16 of 17 4A opponents by at least 17 points. The only exception being Nashville (by 8 ), which could be a semifinal matchup.
My pick: Star City by 27

(2nd 8] Monticello (15-10)  vs  (3rd 7) Bauxite (17-12)
Monticello is led by combo (Hargraves) and guard (Franklin) that are both good shooters. Hargraves battles inside as the leading rebounder as well. Monticello has a very young group with no seniors on the team. Although Hargraves and Franklin were key contributors on a team that made the state tournament last year, the overall inexperience of the team could play a factor if in a battle. Bauxite is a hard playing, defensive minded team. They stay on you defensively and thrive in low scoring games. They have a couple of good outside shooters as a typical Bauxite team does. Bauxite's defense will be tested inside and out in this game. Monticello's lead duo should provide enough offense to pull out a win.
My pick:  Monticello by 8

(2nd 7) Nashville (23-4)  vs  (3rd 8] Dumas (14-13)
This game is a tricky one. For the 2nd straight year Nashville won the regular season conference title and slipped up in the tournament. Nashville will have to bounce back from possibly its worst game of the season as missed free throws and foul trouble did them in. Nashville is led by the PG (Kidd) who is a very good ball handler and outside shooter. Nashville also has combo player (Munn) that can make an impact from anywhere on the court. Nashville plays swarming defense and has active hands. If turnovers and transition points swing in Nashville's favor they are hard to beat. Neither team has a true post player that can dominate inside. This will be a game of guards attacking the basket and outside shooting. Nashville's 7-0 record in true road games will come in handy in this game as Dumas will be playing at home. If Nashville gets back to the way they were playing before the district tournament then this could be a comfortable win.
My pick:  Nashville by 10

not bad if you can't make the drive to Dumas, some of the schools are over 3 hours away. Ft. Lake is roughly 2 hours away, just another media outlet. I hope its packed, but with the early game time I doubt it. I'll be there

Paying $10 to watch online is cheaper than going to the game.

I feel like Dumas boys will beat Nashville. They are in the toughest conference of them all. Who else do you know has the #1 and #2 team in the class are in the same conference. If any of the 7-4A teams were to play those 2, only one that would have a chance would be Malvern. I feel like we are the better team. We've lost by less than 10 to the #1 and #2 teams while Nashville has even done that against the #3. Our boys are also at home so that's an advantage too.

BobKat

oh lol ~WPS~ I see why you chose Nashville to win both games because it seems to me you are from there, that's reasonable to be biased for your own team cause as you can see I am also lol.

Just because a newspaper thinks Monticello and Dollarway are the best two teams in 4A doesn't mean they are. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. We will find out this week. I've watched at least one game of each team in this tournament, except for Hamburg's boys, in order to make knowledgable previews. I've seen Dumas play, I wasn't overly impressed. I realize that's just one game but I have a general idea what they have and do. I'm not 100% confident Nashville will win, which is why I said it will be close. My pick was not based on bias, it was based on matchups, and what I've heard and seen.

BobKat

you're right good luck on your predictions 😉

Monticello lost 2 starters from last year State Champ team.  They have 2 loses one to Dollarway when they had a 13pt lead in 4th period, and missed 8 ft's to win the game.

Yea and Dollarway missed a ton of free throws.  If Johnson, from dollarway, makes one free throw at the end the game never goes to over time.
