100 meter dash

1. Orlando Robinson – Crossett (10.70) (10.80) (10.92) (10.71) (10.67)
SE champ. Has not run above 11 seconds all year. One of the best sprinters, if not the best, in the state.

2. Anthony Blakely – Mills Univ.Stud. (11.07) (10.78) (10.98) (11.00) (10.95) (10.93) (10.74) SE runner up. Has run sub 11 five times. Will be wanting to beat Robinson their senior year.

3. Derek Keaton – Camden Fairview (11.10) (11.18) (11.20) (11.06) (11.10) (10.93)
SW champ. Ran 11.10 or less four times.

4. Darius Fletcher – Camden Fairview  (11.00) (11.17) (11.01) (11.05) (10.97)
SW runner up. Actually ran better than Keaton all year, but lost at conference. Almost too close to call between the two teammates

5. Ryan Green – Forrest City (11.30) (11.35) (11.10) (10.93)
East champ. Seems to have figured out the 100 meter dash at conference, but had tailwind

6. Joewaan Mitchell – Forrest City (11.18) (11.32) (11.17) (10.99)
East runner up. Ran better than Green most of the year, but lost at conference. Almost too close to call, again.

7. James Sax – Vilonia (11.17) (11.34) (11.40) (11.56) (11.22) (11.21) (11.36) (11.11) (11.09)
West champ. Has to run more events than any of these guys. Ran great at conference.

8. Tanner Dvorak – Lakeside, HS (11.31) (11.37) (11.39) (11.20) (11.03) (11.16)
SW 3rd place. Seems to have figured out how to run the event by the end of the year.

Camden Fairview – 11
Crossett – 10
Mills Univ.Stud. – 8
Forrest City – 7
Vilonia – 2

800 meter run

1. Alex Ebmeyer – Vilonia (2:03.87) (1:56.89) (1:58.74) (1:54.92) (1:57.70) (2:04.57) (1:54.97)
Didn't run at conference, but by far the best 800 runner in the 5A and the best in the state. If he runs the 400, can he win the 800? We shall see...I think he can get close.

2. Corbin Greening – Siloam Springs (2:04.56) (2:02.41) (2:06.51) (2:04.31) (2:07.21) (2:00.91)
West champ. I have him ahead of Maples, because he isn't running the mile.

3. KJ Maples – Beebe (2:04.66) (1:58.83) (2:00.91)
Didn't run at conference. He hasn't ran the 1600/800 double this year. If he runs the 1600 at state, I think he can still finish top 3.

4. Austin Dupio – Beebe (2:07.96) (2:06.05) (2:04.88) (2:00.99) (2:04.43)
East champ. Ran the 1600 at conference, but I don't know if he will at state.

5. Andrew Maness – Alma (2:05.99) (2:04.11) (2:03.76) (2:03.23) (2:02.38)
West runner up. Isn't running anything but the 4 x 8 and this event. Has improved each time out

6. Trevor Martin – Vilonia (2:05.04) (2:03.52) (2:06.18) (2:08.78) (2:02.28) (2:06.61)
West 4th place finisher. Could easily finish higher than this. Just been a little inconsistent.

7. Vann Berry – LR Christian (2:08.13) (2:08.40) (2:04.19) (2:02.85) (2:06.10) (2:03.93)
SW champ. Best overall distance runner in the state. Has proven he can run a fast 1600/800 double, so I should probably put him higher.

8. Brian Valley – Vilonia (2:10.40) (2:11.33) (2:07.10) (2:07.02) (2:05.81) (2:09.47) (2:05.46)
West 3rd place finisher. Could finish higher than this, but may have to run a PR to do it.

Points after 7 of 17 events projected:
Magnolia – 42
Vilonia – 36
Camden Fairview – 32
Crossett – 26
LR Christian – 22
Forrest City – 21

Didn't vault at conference. Over 15 feet six times and over 16 feet once. Big favorite

2. Kyle Wyatt – Vilonia (14' 4") (15' 2") (15' 0") (13' 6") (14' 6") (15' 3") (15' 6")
West champ. Over 15 feet four times. Probably the only one who could beat his brother.

3. Thomas Walton – Batesville (12' 0") (14' 0") (13' 0") (13' 3") (14' 0") (13' 9") (13' 0") (13' 2")

4. Tim Kimes – Alma (12' 0") (11' 6") (12' 6") (12' 6") (12' 6") (12' 6") (14' 0")
West runner up. This is the one time when I feel like a homer in these projections. Steward and Lawrence have been over 13 feet more, but Kimes has the better PR and should have been over 13 MANY more times.

2. Freddie Lamay – Magnolia (14.20) (15.42) (15.21) (15.15) (15.39) (15.96)
SW runner up. Didn't have his best run at conference, but will probably bounce back. The 14.20 was handtimed, but he has ran under 15.30 twice.

3. Houston Cotton – Vilonia (15.46) (15.19) (15.27) (15.56) (16.72) (17.07) (15.30) (15.25)

4. Dominique Reed – Camden Fairview (17.30) (16.03) (15.78) (15.11)
SW champ. A great athlete who has started to figure out the hurdles. I was tempted to put him 2nd, because he obviously can finish 2nd. I just like consistency more than anything, though.

5. Hollen Barnes – Mills Univ.Stud. (16.94) (16.53) (16.53) (16.25) (15.87) (15.75) (15.77)

West 3rd place finisher. Has ran under 16 twice. Will be close between him and Barnes.

7. Joseph Stewart – White Hall (16.08) (17.01)
SE third place finisher. A big wildcard. I'm not sure what to think about him. He has a lot of experience from year's past, but hasn't ran much this year for some reason

8. Trevail Rucker – Blytheville (16.46) (16.12)

2. Magnolia (3:40.60) (3:36.07) (3:37.47) (3:33.51) (3:30.35) (3:29.67)
SW champs. I have them ahead of Vilonia because Magnolia always steps up in this event at state. Ran under 3:30 once.

3. Vilonia (3:32.07) (3:34.20) (3:32.18) (3:33.24) (3:27.91) (3:34.52)
West runner ups. Could easily finish 2nd or maybe 1st if Alma has ab ad day. Ran under 3:30 once

4. Hot Springs (3:36.38) (3:34.77) (3:35.70) (3:36.69) (3:31.60)

5. Forrest City (3:32.81)
East runner ups. I have them ahead of Beebe, because their guys don't have to run distance events like Beebe's 4 x 4 team.

7. Mills Univ.Stud. (3:40.89) (3:34.45) (3:37.78) (3:36.30) (3:35.66)

I second that motion 7, Go Eagles bring the hardware to town.

What a sense of closure a state title would make for a team that was literally picking itself up (and out) from the path of a tornado one year ago.  And even after all that, missing a title by 5 points....  Go get 'em Eagles.
