Title: 2018-2019 Expectations and surprises
Post by: LeftyWorld on March 30, 2018, 08:20:26 am
So what teams does everyone expect to make a deep run next year and what are some wild cards you think could really surprise some people that most may not know about? Lets do boys and girls.

I think England boys will make a lot of noise next year. Really surprised us with how good they were last year, especially since they were so young. Only lose 1 senior who played so should be salty

Junction could be really good. Will be young at guard. Fordyce will be young if they don't make noise next year they will the 2 after that. Pc will be inexperienced at guard and will have to prove themselves again. Bearden loses a lot but will play more discipline. Earle is without question the team to beat. I agree that England will be salty as well.

You can add clarendon to that group

Earle will have athletic bigs that can play in the paint and a slew of guards. I look for the Milow twins to dominate

Clarendon will still have Cartwright (the best player in 2A) and several others return.

I also look for Augusta to be pretty solid, I think they only lose 1 player.

It's his twin brother that injured his leg in football and didn't return until the playoffs. He sat out the basketball season to strengthen his leg. He will compliment his brother on the court

We're losing a great group of seniors but Malik has become a great leader and will have the younger ones ready.

In boys Earle will remain the favorite just as they are every year.

In girls I believe Earle runs away with it next year.

Not so fast my friend! Carlisle willhave something to say about that I'm sure. Returning three starters  and the 6th man. Plus several key players off the bench return.  Got a few pretty good sophomores to be, and I would expect that Coach Buff will move up the Thrift girl. She will be a freshman. She is exciting to watch on the court.
And let's not forget, that Ricks will only be a junior next year. She may very well be the best player in 2a for the next couple years. When she realizes how good she really is, it will be bad news for the opposition

I am with Dogg.   Carlisle had a very good team this year, but they will lose much more than they gain.  Carlisle will be beat most of the teams they play but will not be in the mix for the title.  Ricks is a very good player, but a lot of her success was due to everyone trying to stop Warren.

Ricks is an outstanding player, but she is not a true scorer like Warren.  Ricks scored a lot of points, but they were usually due to backside rebounds and outlet passes due to Warren.  Carlisle has a good term returning, but they will not be picked to win their conference next year.  It is not like their conference the past years.  It will be a tough game every night.  Bigelow will be the pre-season favorite next year followed by Poyen , Carlisle and England.  Magnet Coach and Cutter will be tough at home. The only weak team may be Maumelle Charter.

Sleeper team for next year will be des arc. As long as we can avoid the injury bug we had this year. Only lose 1 player and she came off the bench. Were starting 1 jr. 2 sophs and 2 freshman at the end of the year. Here is 2 names every one will get tired of hearing the next 3 seasons Caroline Harris and Tristan Richards. Write it down now.

I only got to watch Earle girls play in the finals and in that game #5 Alexandria Logan had 16 pts and was the only person outside the 2 good guards to make more than one FG. Maxpreps has her listed as a SR, is maxpreps wrong or is the other post typically the better of the two and had an off night?

What about Riverside girls since they are dropping back down from 3A next year?  I'm not sure what all they are losing from this year's team that went undefeated in conference play.

That conference next year will be tough. Bigelow should be the favorite to start the year but carlisle or poyen could easily be the 1 seed out of that district. Poyen really does not loose much from last year and gains some freshman that could help. Cutter lost their shooter and their best player did not play at the end of last year being kicked off the team. Magnet will be better than last year but only time will tell how their current freshman progress as to how good they are next year. Then there is Hazen and Maumelle Charter, not sure what they have coming up or what they loose never got to see them in person last year.

The best post player was a jr but she was in foul trouble. That game was probably the worst game that they had played since the district tournament. Anybody that saw them play in the regional or state tournament know they are much better than how they played in the finals.

Melbourne, Riverside, Marmaduke, Bay, Salem and Sloan Hendrix all in the same conference next year and these teams are matched up in the region with defending State Champion Earle. The #4 from this conference vs. Earle will make an interesting match up in the first round of the region next year just to get to the State Tournament. Should be fun.

Some parents have already contacted AAA but we're told they can't transfer and be eligible at their new school. Was told move or adoption were the options basically. I know Hoxie and Trumann have been discussed by one players parents as options for next yeAr.

I see England, White County, Quitman being good again from this years 2A 4 East. Lighthouse moves to 3a. England moves out of Quitman and White County's conference, so it looks like those two boys teams will be top dogs from their district. I also see St. Joseph starting to make a little more noise next season. They were extremely in-experienced this year.
