Man, I'm really pushing my old deadline for this thing.
When your own life is sick of your Mindless Banter... ;D
Pottsville @ Dardanelle (17)
Will the real Apaches please stand up? Strong showings against two of the better teams in 3A are followed by a goose egg courtesy of what had been an underwhelming Prairie Grove side. Whispers of turmoil do not help, and if a certain pick 'em runner's words are anything to go by, it's starting to look as though this really is supposed to be Pottsville's payoff year. A surging Sand Lizard side look to reclaim the top threatens to hand their guests their worst start in a decade. Don't be surprised if Bryan Rust foists a lock in on his team like he did 8 years ago.
Dover @ Subiaco (6)
This is looking more like the 4A-4's cellar game with each passing day. The Pirates' (slightly) tougher OOC scheduling has hurt them big time, with all their points this season scored in garbage time of a single game. While the Trojans arguably had an easier schedule to this point, the fact that their scoring has been more consistent gives them an edge.
Elkins (8 ) @ Waldron
The winner of this game has a leg up in the playoff race. The Elks have been on a tear in the opening weeks, even if the 140 points scored so far have been against tomato cans. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, may be starting to pick up steam, almost staying level with heavily-favored Danville before fading late. How the weather will affect Elkins' passing game will be a factor.
Mena @ Ozark (21)
Even with all the controversy, Charleston showed last week that even a highly-valued imperative on defense--swarming the ball--can be used against you in certain circumstances. (On a side note, I find it amusing that the folks raising cane over that last play are all third-parties.) The good news, though, is that Tyler Sanders is expected to get some well-deserved reinforcements to join him in the Hillbilly ground game, with Daniel Woolsey and (perhaps) Eddie Graham returning from injury. This could bode ill for a Bearcat side looking to improve on their 2-1 start and make their own mark in the conference race.
I don't do the picks but I never miss X's weekly summaries. Always entertaining and fun to read.
