Van Buren's River City Rumble 4/1-4/2

Last year's River City Rumble tournament in Van Buren featured a strong field, including four eventual state champions.

Van Buren coach Andy Williams thinks this year's edition may be even tougher. The 13th annual River City Rumble takes place Friday and Saturday at the Field of Dreams complex.

"This is usually regarded as one of the best in the state, and this year's no exception," Williams said. "Of the 16 teams that were here last year, four were state champions, 1A (Scranton), 4A (Mena), 5A (Vilonia) and 6A (Greenwood), so it was a pretty strong field last year and this field could be even better.

"We lost some schools but picked up schools that may be even better. Benton's really good, they're here for the first time; Brookland's real good, they're here for the first time; White Hall's good, they're here for the first time, so we pick up three quality schools that makes the field even tougher."

Competition will be split up into two separate brackets. The first bracket features Greenwood, Ozark, Rogers, Russellville, Mena, Har-Ber, Sheridan and Dardanelle. The second bracket features Van Buren, Scranton, White Hall, Brookland, Benton, Atkins, Alma and Bentonville.

Teams will then play its way into two separate elimination brackets, the Green Tournament and the White Tournament. Both of those tournaments begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with the championship games in each set for 5:30 p.m.
