Knowing JC put 40 on PC in the first qtr at PC, and with the fact PC gave Mountainbug all they wanted for most of the game in round 1..... I feel pretty confident JC wins big in this matchup.
Burg has no defense. JC by 28
Ok JC scored 40 on PC in 1 quarter and Burg scored 40 in 1 1/2 quarters on PC. No doubt we didn't play great the first half still a down from the loss to Hector but we did wake up and dominated the last 1 1/2 quarters when it matter. I know JC will be favored big and I get that but you still got to play the game.
Dragondad and prouddragondad.... interesting lol
Anyways, JC by however many they feel like scoring
Junction by 35. I don't really see a contest here.
The Dragons will win this one 😉😂
+1
They should win but their line needs to wake up. They're to inconsistent for this time of the year. JC played a terrible game last night, way too many mental mistakes. Two fumbles on the 2 yd line, 15 yd penalty in the red zone, some broke plays, if this happens against a 1 or 2 seed could lose....JC's line determines the win and by how much......
I don't understand why you bring in a lineman and a backup in those spots. You have 2 stud RB's. Let them put the game away. It's playoff time. The clock should have been running after half and you cut the risk of injury to your starters.

No doubt, got to play the game. Mountainburg did finally wake up, but in PC they began continuous clock in the first half and put backups and 9th graders in the entire second half. Mountainburg wont be able to wait until their opponent gets tired to turn on the gas, because that wont happen. JMO

Not trying to stir up a hornets nest, but I can't lay all the blame on JC's play last night on the players. It should have been a coaching philosophy to end the game early, and decisively, so starters could be pulled and avoid needless injuries. One does not do that by putting certain players, who haven't much experience, or playing time, in critical situations (ie. goal line opportunities). The main JC backs were picking up huge chunks of yardage all night long. There is an old saying," You dance with the one that brought you". I can see using these younger players after the game is in hand, but not before.
I'm taking JC by a lot. No disrespect but I don't feel like Burgs athletes are in the same level as JC
I don't know who is rooting for who on this thread cause there is multiple dragondad's, dragon #1, dragonator, dragon #99, etc...... Too many dragons to keep track of lol

Put your town abbreviation at the start of your post please lol
Having played both teams I will say JC wins by at least 4 TD's, but hope Burg puts up more of a fight than we did against JC

JC is talented, but Mountainburg plays tough.
JC 42 vs Mountainburg 24
Junction City comes out on top here. But we'd be foolish to think this game will be a walk in the park. Need to focus, lots of mistakes last week. Could've been a different situation if the opponent capitalizes on a those mistakes.
Wishing the best for the Northern Dragons.. Do not envy a 5 hour drive though! Good luck and safe travels!
Too much tradition at JC. JC advances

Arkansas Varsity thoughts...
2A THOUGHTS
Foreman and Magazine should be a great game, as will Salem and Earle. I believe Junction City will roll over Mountainburg (talk about a drive for Mountainburg!). That Mountain Pine vs Des Arc game may be the Game of the Week for 2A. Hector and Mount Ida will be an intriguing match up, while Conway Christian and Fordyce should be a competitive game. Hasen and Gurdon will be a fun one to keep an eye on, while Hampton and Mineral Springs should be another barn burner.

Can't wait to see how Burg does against JC tonight. I know no one is giving us a chance and pretty much everyone says we will get mercy ruled so based on what everyone is saying Burg should have just stayed home and forfeited tonight. Well luckily Burg decided against all that and made the trip to JC and hey never know what could happen that's why they play the game. Good luck Blue Dragons! I'll be there in the stands cheering you boys on as loud as I can like always. DRAGONSTRONG!!!

You won't see much of the school, but you can't miss the stadium. As you come into town there will be a grave yard on the west side of the highway and a little further south the stadium will be on the east side of the highway. If you see the bingo parlor, you have left the state. I've always assumed the one stop light is shared by Arkansas and Louisiana.
Not a lot of sit down dining options in JC. The C-store across from the stadium is named McDonald's, but don't look for any golden arches. They do have a deli and bbq though. There's a drive up place further south. The Mexican place you might see is still under construction. There's a sit down BBQ place just over in LA, but the owners are related to the HC so they usually close on game day. But the concession stand has variety and the band would appreciate the help toward their causes.
Hope you like the facilities. The lighting, sound system, ticket booth, restrooms, parking lot, concession stand and visitors stands have all been upgraded or replaced within the last two or three years. There was extensive work done on the field this summer but I can't make a lot of promises on the playing surface. L.A. (lower Arkansas) has had a lot of water recently and it should be better able to handle weather when the grass has had a full year to take root. I can assure you the field will be in better shape crown-wise, level-wise and drainage-wise than it has been in years.
Safe travels both south and north.
Thank you for the info.
Safe travel from the Burg and back home....
Go Junction
I think the Dragons win this one easily. ::)
Tall task ahead for our fellow 4-2A member. Good luck Mountainburg! Hopefully everyone has a safe trip and all players stay healthy for both squads. I'll be watching from the comfort of my home! ;D

Are they playing dirty or are they playing a style of physical football that you're not use to seeing? Sometimes when you watch your team go up against soft opponents all year.... then they run into a physical hard-hitting team it might seem dirty to you.
I might upset some people by saying this, and a couple plays were border line, but this team is finally playing with an attitude. Something that's been missing for a couple of years since Dancy and crew left. Maybe it's the ground and pound attitude coming back. Whatever it is, I hope they keep it up. A few things to correct. The fumbles are a killer, but this team seams to be putting it together. The last couple of years in JC, there have been a few with attitudes, but it wasn't the people that needed to. Lol!

Junction City knocks off Mountainburg
This article was published November 16, 2018 at 11:32 p.m.
News-Times Staff
JUNCTION CITY - Over the last two months, big plays have seemingly become the norm for Junction City's offense.
On Friday night, the Dragons struck early and often, capping four first-half scoring drives in under four plays, as Junction City topped Mountainburg 50-14 in the second round of the 2A playoffs.
Junction City (9-2), the 8-2A's No. 1 seed, move on to the quarterfinals for a showdown against Des Arc next week.
Mountainburg (8-3), the 4-2A's No. 2 seed, lost for just the second time in their last nine games.
Dhante Gibson, who had 95 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, opened the scoring with a 2-yard run to cap a 60-yard scoring drive in seven plays with Jakiron Cook's two-point conversion making it 8-0.
It would be Junction City's longest scoring march of the half.
On the ensuing possession, Mountainburg drove to Junction City's 4, but were turned away after Jesse Quick was stopped for a 2-yard loss on fourth-and-goal from the 7.
On Junction City's first offensive play of the next series, they padded their lead with a big play from their passing attack, as Brady Hutcheson threw a 91-yard touchdown pass for Kevontae Haynes with Cook's two-point conversion pushing the lead to 16-0.
A junior, Hutcheson followed his two-touchdown performance from last week by going 7-of-8 passing for 250 yards with three scores against Mountainburg.
Haynes finished with 188 yards and two touchdowns on four receptions in the win.
In the last two games, the duo has collaborated for four touchdowns.
Junction City's defense came up with a second straight stop in the red zone on Mountainburg's next possession, and the Dragons needed just two plays to strike again.
Starting at their 18, Cook, who had 138 yards on just eight carries, broke free for a 78-yard run to the 4, and Gibson scored on the next play, also adding the two-point conversion to give Junction City a 24-0 lead.
The Dragons led by the same score after the opening period, but padded their lead early in the second quarter, needing just four plays to traverse 57 yards.
The duo of Hutcheson and Haynes hooked up for the second time on a 14-yard touchdown to make it 30-0.
Mountainburg got on the scoreboard with Ethan Gregory throwing a 6-yard touchdown pass to Austin Taylor to finish off an 84-yard scoring drive with 1:33 left in the half, but Junction City needed just 16 seconds to answer.
After Hutcheson found Haynes for a 48-yard gain, the junior fired a 17-yard touchdown pass to Cook with Gibson's two-point conversion making it 40-6.
After forcing a punt, the Dragons got the ball back at their 36 with 51 seconds left.
Again, Hutcheson and Haynes hooked up on a 35-yard pass play to give Junction City a first down at Mountainburg's 29.
Consecutive runs by Gibson netted 24 yards to put the ball at the 5.
On the final play of the half, Jack Smith kicked a 22-yard field goal to make it 43-6 at intermission.
Cook scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter with Smith's extra point giving the Dragons a 50-6 lead before Mountainburg scored the final points of the game on a safety coupled with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Gregory to Sean Irvan.
Despite having the ball for less than 13 minutes in the game, Junction City rolled up 488 yards of total offense.
Taylor finished with 126 yards on 22 carries, while Gregory was 7-of-11 passing for 83 yards with two touchdowns for Mountainburg.

Stat link shows JC was penalized six times for 45 yards. The PF on the Mountainburg TD catch in the north endzone was probably from watching too much NFL and trying to put the catch in question. It was a good call. I couldn't see the unsportsman like that was called on the Mountainburg sideline and couldn't tell if Jones took the kid out of the game. I hope he did. If the kid was a contributor, no need to risk a second unsportsman like and not having him available for the next round.
I saw the big lineman for Mountainburg get mad a something and have to be calmed down by his teammates. There was a no call on what looked like it could have been contact out of bounds late in the game on the southeast end of the field, but the crew didn't see it as warrenting a call and they were a lot closer than I was. I didn't recognize the crew as one having seen JC before. As was stated earlier, and happens a lot in playoff basketball, some crews just aren't exposed to some styles of play during their regular season games. This crew let both teams play for the most part.
There was some jawing from both teams. There was also some knock the crap out of somebody, offer a hand to help them up and then give them a pat on the helmet.
Good job to the northern Dragons for never giving up.
