SPEARING - Is it still a penalty?

With all the focus on concussions and such, you would think that SPEARING would be closely watched in high school football.

In the 5A East, I have not seen this penalty enforced any!  Is it still a penalty? I know there is also "targeting", but I haven't seen that called.  (Although, I haven't seen it HAPPEN much, either.)

Both fall under illegal helmet contact - Rule 9-4-3i. Since you admit you haven't seen it happen, that might give you a clue as to why it wasn't called.

Yep while we were taught it in the early 1980's it been banned for a LONG TIME!
