Give us some info on the boys this year....starters....how many seniors.....leaders etc....

Sure. I usually wait until football season is over and see who is playing for sure and who is healthy, but I can give you something to hold you over.

Alma returns 3 starters who are seniors this year, Braylon Parker, Austin Lee, and Jake Folkerts. Austin Lee was all state last year.

Braylon is a true point guard. He handles the ball well. He also gets to the rim and plays great man to man defense.

Austin is what you would call a SG, although he brings the ball down the court when we need him to. He is who the Airedales want to have the ball in a close game. He can knock down the 3, get to the rim, and handle the ball. He also plays good defense. He likes to pick your pocket.

Jake is a postman who cleans up the boards like a Moses Malone. He gets 10 boards in a game like it's just scoring 10 points. Even when he goes against bigger posts, he's not afraid to get in the lane and get the ball in his hands. He makes some good moves offensively, too.

Other players who made contributions that came off the bench last year are Alex Beneux and Heath Friddle. Alex is a tall guard who handles the ball and knocked down a few big time threes for us last year. Heath is a set shot specialist who also is a very active defender. Friddle has his motor going 110 percent at all times it seems.

I also believe we have two sophomore guards coming in who will have a chance at playing time in Noah Dotson and Nathan Corder. Coach Flenor likes to gives these guys playing time early in non conference and then see how it goes from there.

There will be players who have been on the team who will step up this year after not playing much beforehand and some other surprises I'm sure. Some of the players I mentioned may not even play, I don't know.

My son plays for Paris and we play Alma this year and the only one we have heard about was the Austin Lee kid I heard that he is pretty good...

We most definitely do. We are very lucky to have it. Everything about the arena is top notch. By far one of the best. Glad to see new fans see the arena, Alma is proud to show it off.

Our assistant coach, Coach Stahler, used to be the head basketball coach at Paris I believe. I wonder if he had anything to playing Paris this year.

BigMan15

Most likely I think it will be a great opportunity for our young Paris team....should be a great game with a great atomsphere.

And that is the understatement of the year.....ask for the Steve Perry tour.....you won't regret it.
And possibly not remember it...

This thread makes for some fun recollection...

As long as Stan Flenor is the coach at Alma you can pencil in success he and Stahler do an amazing job!

I would agree with this but remember they are stepping up in classification.  Everybody they face will have bigger, stronger, and more athletic players.  Night in and night out that wears on you.

Don't wanna fight with you, BigMan, but I don't think you realize that Alma is a really good 6A team. They'd beat everyone in the 3A by 20+

BigMan15

What did they finish in 5a last year??

Lost to the State Champion Forrest City Mustangs in the first round of the state tournament in OT. Finished in a tie for 3rd in the conference and received the 4 seed based off tiebreakers.

They've yet to play a 6A game, kind of early to say that isn't it? Until they've played Jonesboro, Hall, or Parkview, I'd slow down the accolades.

I cant them beating ecs this year....if they playing last year took the 7a state champ down to the wire....any given night a team can get hot espically if u got good shooters which paris does....

I think 12th Man CHS meant a very good program in 6A now.

What I think is interesting is that Alma's new conference is very familiar to the Airedales in basketball and the program has some confidence they can compete with their conference.

Greenwood, Siloam Springs, Russellville, and Van Buren are all teams Alma has played in the recent past and Alma knows they can compete with them. Catholic, Bryant, and Conway will bring more unfamiliarity, but I think Alma can compete with those three teams

My pre-season projections for the conference are (Boys)

1. Van Buren
2. Alma
3. Conway
4. Siloam Springs
5. Russellville
6. Bryant
7. Little Rock Catholic
8. Greenwood

Alma has to do well against Siloam, Russellville, and Greenwood though because those are the ones that count towards the playoffs.

I would switch two and three and it would be pretty good

Here's the Airedale schedule according to the AAA schedule book for the 2014-2015 season:

Note: I'm not sure why the schedule has (G) beside the Crawford County tournament and the Airedale Classic...I'm almost positive the boys and the girls will play in those tournaments

December 2nd - Lake Hamilton
December 5th - @ Little Rock Christian
December 9th - Bentonville
December 11-13th - Crawford County Tournament (Cedarville, Mountainburg, Mulberry)
December 16th - Paris
December 19th - Springdale
December 27th-30th - Airedale Classic (Gravette, Lavaca, ???) Don't know rest of teams yet
January 2nd - Farmington

That should get us ready for 6A play.

I agree with your standings all the way.. Alma will do very well this upcoming season.. The two Van Buren Vs. Alma games will be great!

Directly from the mouth of someone who knows a lot about Van Buren basketball:

"If the Pointers are going to win state in basketball, this is the year to do it."

Yeah there are a few other really good teams to clash with in the 7a For Van Buren but the Pointers are loaded with talent. Should be a Great season.  So I would agree with this being a year where Van Buren can win state. Willing nobody gets hurt during the season.. And to keep it on topic I know the 6a is hard but I really think Alma will make a nice run this year and play just fine in the 7a/6a. Oh and Alma has one of the if not the best basketball arena in Arkansas.

Mr. Braylon Parker will do a lot of good things this year. I played him one on one couple months ago and he is VERY quick. Nothing like McCoy from 3 years ago, but that's like comparing a college player to Jordan in his prime... Folkerts has hops too. I look for alma to make a pretty good run this year!

Braylon was most improved player last year...has turned into a big piece of the Alma basketball team. His ball handling and defense is much needed.

I'm expecting you guys at FHS on Thursday for the benefit game.  I know you will not be full strength be we will miss two major players too.

Come find me.  Everyone in the gym knows who B.G is!
