Sidenotes:
This seems to be a series of streaks.

1983 thru 1988 Lavaca won 6 in a row
1989 thru 1993 Charleston won 5 in a row
1997 thru 2004 Charleston won 8 in a row
Charleston is currently on a 7 year winning streak and has won 15 of the last 17 and 21 of last 25
1991 was the most lopsided victory (Charleston 56-00)
Charleston leads the overall series 25-12-00

The newspapers for many years have termed this series as the "Battle of Hiway 22". Why I do not know and it is somewhat confusing since Lavaca is located on Hiway 96 several miles removed from Hiway 22.

This is one of the most heated small school rivalries in the state. There are several reasons for this. One reason is the closeness of the communities distance wise. Many of the Charleston and Lavaca kids devoted to their respective schools growing up intermarry and take up residence in their spouse's school district. .As their own children grow up and attend school their allegiances change. Many from both communities know each other on a friendly basic.

For years because of my schedule and other reasons I could barely make games on time. With the limited seating on most of the schools of this conferences visitor's side I would have to set on the home side. I would rather have prostate surgery than sit on the home side of some of the schools in this conference (especially one). I have never felt threatened and have always been treated courteously and with the utmost respect when seated on the Lavaca side. Of course I guess it helps that I know many of them and they know me.

I'm looking forward to the game as I do each and every year. Let us as fans remember to treat our opponents courteously and with respect.

Amen. I'm almost as worried about this one as I am Booneville. In 2005 when we won our first state championship we lost to Lavaca

nastynice

Doesn't seem like much of a rivalry to me. Lavaca has only won 4 times since the 80's.

Thought the same thing.

I agree when one team wins most of the time a rivalry loses its luster. As of right now this rivalry in not as heated as it once was. It had started to cool in the early 2000's and when Lavaca won in 2005 and 06 it got red hot again. It has cooled again in the last few years. To the ones who have followed it since its conception it is still extremely heated.

Can Lavaca win this game? Most likely not but you can't take a game like this lightly.

It will heat up again. Most likely not this year but could happen as early as next year.

BTW nastynice, concerning your cat that was killed by someone (from another thread), did you check to see if it had been sexually assaulted?  If it was me thinks the one you suspect is your man.

Does the rivalry extend into the other sports as well? Or is it just mainly football?

DogsWin7

Basketball....girls, used to be tough....my Dad laughs at the rivalry.  :)

Could you explain further what your father finds amusing about the rivalry? I do realize I'm a little slow but I just can't make out what you're saying from your post ;D

BigMan15

When i was in school it was a huge rivarly in all sports mainly boys basketball and football...a lot of fighting and people jawing but looking back it was pretty fun..

OLDSCHOOL82

Not much of a competition this year.  I'm not sure what Lavaca will have coming back but next year it could get heated again.

BigMan15

Well in basketball they have moved conferences but football maybe in 2-3 years it will be heated again...

Jalkuranis

I'm thinking next year will get heated. Chucktown has to remember how to win without a D1 QB. It's like Peter Pan learning how to fly.... Eventually you will get there. And we've all seen Hook.

WPWells

Jalkuranis

Oh I don't doubt they will be. I just think it'll be an adjustment.

Charleston has been winning long before Ty and they will after he leaves.

OLDSCHOOL82

Enough with the cockiness chucktown boys.  Be a realist.  You will be way down from where you where this year and last year.  Booneville will be also.  Every school cycles talent.  Even more so in the smaller divisions.  What makes a school great is the ability to be competetive in the down years when the talent is not plentiful.  A lot of schools can go from state champs or close to barely winning a game the next year.

adaptedtigerfan

If Charleston barely wins a game next year ill eat my socks.

Booneville will be down next couple years but still will be 1st or 2nd in conference. But after that, they will roll the next few years! ...............I'm with 12th man, tigers will be fine, they'll just go back to running the ball more.  Tigers backup QB is nothing to sneeze at.

ChucktownTiger

Rowland will be fine at QB next year. Although we lose King, we will gain a couple 9th graders that will really help in the receiving game. Flanagan an Wisdom will be a big addition next year. Charleston will reload as always. Yes TY will be a big loss but as states before, we didnt just start winning. The conference will be more balanced next year. Well at least the top 3 Ctown Bville and Lamar. Once again the three teams to beat Ctoen and Bville being 1&2 or 2&1.

This week the rivalry continues. If the same Lavaca team comes out that beat Paris, it could be close for a bit. However, Charleston rolls in the rivalry.

I think it will be a battle for starting qb at Charleston next year.

adaptedtigerfan

I could be wrong...  I just figured they would go back to the old offense.

Lineman

I think it will be a more balanced offense, but I believe jack will be the starting qb.

So do I.

I'm really high on that freshman QB. I think he may be the next Jordon Shelby. If we can develop a run heavy line after developing pass protecting lines for the last few years I thing the mid-line option will be back and alive again.

However, Storeys backup this year throws a nice and accurate pass so it will be a battle for the starting position.

ChucktownTiger

IMO and it is often wrong, I think we'll see that QB isn't wisdoms "natural" position or at least where he helps the best. Of course he's very good at it, but he's an athlete. He could
play just about any skill position. I think he'll be used as a receiver or skill positiOn. Rowland has looked good and I think will do a great job at the QB spot. I look for wisdom to be more along the lines of Shelby last year. We could really use that this year!!!!

OLDSCHOOL82

Everyone is way to soft.  My comment earlier would of started an all out war in pre season or last year!!

It is what it is means.... "Lets wait and see how week 9 turns out!"

I already told you..  Charleston by 3tds

No, Booneville by 3 tds.

This is not a bet (I don't want to be banned) it's only a gift. If Boon'vul beats Charleston by 3 TD's I will give you a one dollar gift card at Dollar General ;D

You newer posters won't get this but OLDSCHOOL will.

-Painted Fan-

Tonight is the annual Pizza Eating Contest at Steffey's in Lavaca.
4 players from each team will compete to see who can eat the most of Steffey's famous Uncle Roman (I've never been able to eat more than 2 slices myself! That thing is HUGE! )
Interesting note: Lavaca usually wins the eating contest, while Charleston usually wins the ballgame on Friday.

WPWells

Charleston has won the eating contest the past couple years

-Painted Fan-

Charleston got smoked last year.
It wasn't  close.
My nephew was on of the eaters for Lavaca.

adaptedtigerfan

I know one eating tonight that can prob put the whole thing down by himself.  Lol

WPWells

Let's make this game more interesting by saying the winner tonight gets spotted 21 points on Friday

Wade will be the rb rowland the qb next year...

The Dynasty

Rowland will be the QB. We will not go back to the mid-line with Kendrick there either. And I love how all the out of towners forget that we won a game or two before Storey was ever QB. It's comical actually. I hope people do overlook this team next year because they will be in for a surprise. Charleston big in this one.

Oh I almost forgot...... KLA

BigMan15

I kinda miss those days writing kca on everything we could find and charleston did the same thing the pep rallys were crazy and the crowds were intense...

Lineman

There was nothing like having someone spit on you and yell "go home commie". Or having a police escort through Lavaca's crowd to get to the field.

Exactly!!!!! I remember how ticked I was leaving the field after Lavaca beat us in 05 and they stuck their flag in the Tiger Paw at midfield. This use to be the game to see.

This sounds like a fun rivialry to be involved with.  Hard to do that if the towns where farther apart.  Rivalrys like this are something the bigger schools miss out on!
