Looking forward to this season, glad we actually got the birds on the schedule this year. Waiting to see what this QB situation is going to be but other than that we look pretty solid.

Southside has officially filled it's Week 1 game with Warren @UAPB in the Hooten's Classic on Tuesday September 3rd.....

Not too excited about playing a 4A school, but if you have to play one, Warren would certainly be the one to play.....

Haven't heard anything down this way but apparently Bait heard it up there.
welcome to the board.

Glad to see Warren has a new poster. Maybe this one won't run away and hide like some of their other ones have in the past.  :D
What's up S town can't wait to go at it this year.

Alright LumberJack fans....we are about a month from game day between the Rebels and Jacks....let's get started.

First, about the current state of the Rebels....

1. We are down to 108 players 2 weeks away from fall camp starting. That is the 2nd lowest number since 2005.

2. Still no decision on the starting QB, which is a little unusual since the purposed back up QB transferred.

3. The OL averages 268lb. which would make it the smallest OL in the 7A West and smallest that Southside has had in my memory.

4. The RB position is beginning to look better even though we don't have that big bruiser RB over 200lb. this year.

5. Defensive secondary is really shaping up with better size, speed and athleticism than we have had recently.

6. The DL will be much like it has been the past 3 or 4 years....a bit young and undersized...but my biggest concern here is the depth across the line.

I anticipate that Southside will try and shorten the game by trying to grind down the Warren defense with the running game. If Warren put 8 in the box I think that the Rebs will use the TE and slot recievers between the hash's and behind the Warren LB's to keep the Jacks honest.

My biggest fear in the game is the skill athletes that Warren always has....it does the Rebels no good if they grind out a 9 minute drive on the ground if the Jacks are covering 80 yards in 3 plays with their big play capabilities....also games that have long bus trips, in the past, haven't helped Southside's chances of winning...

Alright boy, let's hear what shakin' with the Jacks....

BTW, a friend of mine that lives down in you boys neck of the woods said that Warren had 70+ out for football this year....I would think that that would be a bunch for a 4A school...is that true??

AirWarren

Ill reply more later but we will have maybe 40 on the roster ha. 70 I wish!

Yep. Don't we wish we all had 70 in 4A. That would be nice with that kind of depth.

Play Lafayette county plays Smackover week three.

I don't think Warren has ever had 70 players on the team. I could only dream of having a Lumberjack OL averaging 268 Ibs. As always, our biggest disadvantage in this game will be the size comparison.

- Heading into fall practice, there's still question marks on who will start at QB for Warren. It'll be either Justin Gorman, Darveon Brown or Austin Heranney, the transfer from Mississippi. If I had to place a bet, I would put my money on Brown starting in the opener.

- Other than quarterback, were solid in every other position on offense. We'll have at least seven or eight seniors on offense. 4 of 5 starters are back on offensive line. I look for Kilay Cox to have a big year at running back. I expect Franklin Gilmore to be the next breakout player at receiver.

- There are several questions on defense. We lost a lot of key players from last season. The majority of the seniors last year were big contributors on defense. Were having to put our best defensive lineman, LaFoy Smith at linebacker to offset the loss at that position. Probably the most questionable position for us is in the defensive backfield.

Warren is at its best when were able to compliment our passing game with a strong running game. That's what kept in the game last season against Fayetteville. I expect us to use the same strategy against Southside. Fatigue will be against us. We lack depth at certain positions. Southside has much more depth and is a lot bigger. They're going to score, we just gotta score more.

I doubt there are very meany 4A schools with 70 man roster. Maybe Nashville ??? Star City claimed they had 100 a few years back but it was later determine they used K-12 numbers!

You think they would be interested in a home and home deal?

It's possible. Would really like a matchup with Highland.
Highland Picked up Earle that week, just saw it on the Schedule for a Highland home game.

1. We can only play 11 at a time so this is ok.

2. If he can take a snap and hand off it is a good start.

3. Hopefully they are small and quick. I know one of the sophomores that will be starting on OL is just that.

4. All state RB should be adequate.

5. The best athletes on team reside in secondary so that will help against passing teams.

6. The DL concerns me as well. Without a lot of depth there they will be in trouble.

Looking forward to seeing this game win or lose. Both programs are top notch.

As I said in the bold predictions thread I think Warren wins this game. I just feel like they have run into FS Southside at the perfect time. If Darveon Brown takes the starting QB job I will like Warrens chances even more for this game and winning the 4A championship.

Warren 28
FS Southside 21

CounterPunch

Depending on how many players Warren gets hurt in this game will determine the success of their season. 8-4a will be a tough task this year.

Depth only hurts you when the other team has quality depth. A lot of new starters for Southside. They will be a much better team week 8 than they will be week 1.

Highland Picked up Earle that week, just saw it on the Schedule for a Highland home game.

Have fun with the nation
? you lost me on that one.

Visit the 3A board and ask who/what the nation is.
I should for $@%t's and Giggles. I'm sure he/it will pop up soon enough.

The "Nation" is Earle. That's apparently what they call theirselves.

As I said in the bold predictions thread I think Warren wins this game. I just feel like they have run into FS Southside at the perfect time. If Darveon Brown takes the starting QB job I will like Warrens chances even more for this game and winning the 4A championship.

FS Southside 21

I like your optimism, but I still think depth is gonna get to us. Not sure Brown will be the QB either.

Depth only hurts you when the other team has quality depth. A lot of new starters for Southside. They will be a much better team week 8 than they will be week 1.

This is true and maybe that'll be the case.

depyh is depth. 100 degrees= depth always wins. it will be a good game for 2 or 3 quarters.

Southside will probably have a decent defense and overall depth good there but not on the line. I still think if Warren plays the game they did last year in week one they have a very good chance in this one. They have the best athletes that is for sure but can't afford to have the injury bug in the game like against Fayetteville. I am hoping both teams play their hearts out and come away with no injuries at all.

The way this summer has been I won't be surprised if it's 80 degrees at kick off.

I know Coach Hembree likes to utilize the read option, which is why I think Brown will start. He may go a different direction but from past history, he tends to go with the more athletic player at QB. I know very little about Herraney. Gorman isn't as mobile to run the type of offense Coach Hembree likes to run. I think as the season progresses, we might see a change at quarterback similar to 2002 when he put Bret back at receiver.

Just going on what I've heard recently. It could change.

Darveon Brown and Jaylon Marshall

Both are WR's and committed to Arkansas State. They both play in the secondary for Warren also.

Is this years QB for Warren a consistent thrower? I am sure he will be a good runner.

No doubt. I was thinking man give us either one and we are good to go.

Well the problems are:

The slower one has had a history of poor decision making
The faster one happens to be one of your D1 receivers
