"Dancy's return has team in 'high spirits'

Jaqwis Dancy returned to the team late Monday following a week's worth of chemotherapy treatment to attack his Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Joseph, who is Dancy's position coach said his presence uplifted the team.

"I know just from a team standpoint, when the news came out it hit them like a ton of bricks like it hit me like a ton of bricks. Everybody was more scared than anything because they didn't know, they weren't educated enough on what was going on. They all pulled together," Joseph said.

"This team is a pretty tight group. When he came back I think their spirits are up because they can see him, they can feel him and see him smile and they feel better. Mentally, it's like he's going to be OK. The fight continues with him."

The energy provided by Dancy will continue through the weekend. He'll be at Tech's home game Saturday against Rice. Tech plans to put banners on the East and West side of Joe Aillet Stadium for fans to sign and write notes of encouragement to Dancy."

"After 37 years of coaching high school football (29 as a Head Coach), Junction City's David Carpenter announced his retirement on Thursday, effective immediately, as head coach of the Dragon Football program. Carpenter will remain the Director of Athletics at Class 3A Junction City and will continue to oversee both the Dragon and Lady Dragon Track and Field programs and the Dragon Weightlifting program, which he has led to a combined 16 state championships."

The norphlet game in 2003 was his 100th win so he added another 142 after that game.... so 152-25 I believe

No names were released, but this was in the EDNT this morning:

Per the board's approval, Carpenter's football retirement will be effective May 26, 2017.

"We'll accept applications (for the head football coach position) until mid-January," the superintendent said. "We'll interview the last two weeks of January and then hopefully the interview committee will be able to present a candidate at the February board meeting for your approval."

From the 01/11/17 EDNT:

Jones tabbed as new coach at Junction City

JUNCTION CITY - On Tuesday night, the Junction City School Board approved the hire of Steven Jones to be the Dragons' next football coach.

Jones takes over for longtime coach David Carpenter, who announced his retirement a few weeks after the 2016 season concluded.
