Obviously, Morrilton is still very young and inexperienced...they have a decent running game and a mediocre short distance passing game.  I realize that you have to give a new coach more than a year or two in order to get players believing in his system and things turning around; however, I'm seeing the same things with McNabb that we saw when Greason came to town...nothing but a lot of hype, poor play and loss after loss.  What happened to the talk of the new coach being a great defensive mind?  That's the same thing we heard about Greason...defense was supposed to be his specialty.  Assuming Morrilton loses to Greenwood friday night, they will have started 1-4 and 0-3 in conference...the easiest it gets from there this season will be Huntsville and maybe Harrison...all of the other teams look like they they will be in a race for the four playoff spots for the West.  Morrilton has competed for the most part, but they still cannot finish in a lot of aspects.  Maybe Morrilton needs a proven head coach with a lot of experience at competing and winning in tough ballgames and in a tough conference.

8Crazy8

is Criswells lil bro playing for the hs yet?

PercussionMan

There is a Criswell playing RB this year...he's a sophomore, so I assume that might be who you are talking about.  I think his first name is Jamar...maybe?

DEVIL DOG HOG

Morriltons problem is the Superintendent and the puppet school board!

gwolf86

Unfortunately, there is just not enough talent coming up for Morrilton.  All of the real good players moved to other towns over the past few years and there are no new families moving in.  If they consider Morrilton they change their minds after doing research on their sports programs and they hear of the bad reputation the school board has with the community. I am not from Morrilton but have many friends who live there and this is what I hear from them.  I hope Morrilton rebounds in a few years.

the voice

Morrilton has talent coming up, there are problems in areas, Not a one man fix. Its gonna take some time to turn things around.  Theres an old saying that for every soph you start you will loose a game.  The soph class is talented and the others are buying in to Coach McNabb's
plan. I have seen much improvement , maybe not in the win column but the attitudes and effort are there.  Unfortunately the upper classmen of the team can't draw on alot of experience, as most of last years team was 3 year starters.  Hang in there devil dogs!

PercussionMan

Yes, unfortunately, Morrilton does not have the best administration in place for the district and are suffering from it...it has not been like Morrilton in the past to be this down for so many years in a row.  I realize that this would have been a "rebuilding" year, regardless of the coaching/school board situations, but it's very disturbing for them to lose like they have been.

Scoring  Averages:

Scoring 11.5 PPG
Allowing 31.7 PPG

That doesn't get the job done.  And, McNabb is like Greason was supposed to be...a "defensive mind/specialist".

pantherblue

It was very sad to watch last night. You have a very gritty little QB that does what he can. If you guys would spread the field and pass a little more then work on scoring in the red zone you should still pull out a couple wins. I sure hope to see you guys back competitive soon.

One problem Morrilton has is overcoming an instilled Loser Mentality such as Percussion Man presents.  Does Percussion mean like you're a band person?  Do you know what to look for, in improvement, or just the obvious like any Bad Airhead Cheerleader?  Don't mean to be personal or anything!    ;D

Excuses.  I hope your coach doesn't blame this on his players like you are.

Loser Mentality is one problem - another is breeding.
Just flat out bottom of the barrel genetics!  ;D

I did see Morriltons JV last week - out of the four teams scrimmaging, the devil dog defense, was the best.  They had a lot better handle on basics like containment, angle of pursuit, filling gaps.  They swarmed to the ball aggressively.  That group will do good on the Off Season Weights!

Valleysports, you are a prime example of what happens when idiots are allowed to walk amongst the rest of us and breed.
I've been watching football (at all levels) for the majority of my life, and I do agree with DB...I know what to look for in improvement on the field...and for Morrilton, it has not been there.  The Devil Dogs have been on a downhill slide, for whatever reason(s), since they lost the State Championship in 2005.

InYoGrill

Some thoughts on the DD. I've watched my boys play football from PeeWee - high school against M since 02 up through now. One thing I've noticed about M football is that they always look the part- speed, size, and athleticism.  Last night they shot themselves in the foot. Too many poorly thrown balls. Too many turnovers. Criswell kid has got the speed to make news. I loved the hook and lateral call for their 1st TD. Perfectly executed.  Maybe after a year or two in the new system M will be back?

PercussionMan

Let's hope they're back...very soon!

Seeing anything positive yet?  ::)

Just watch what happens, in the weight room, with that coach ya'll don't deserve!  ;)

PercussionMan

Coach we don't deserve?  Let's see you justify that one...I'm sure that could be said for a lot of programs at all levels, if you're trying to get technical about it by coming up with your own reasoning.

When you are gauging improvement by the number of games that you get mercy ruled in, it ain't good.  We won 2 games last year.  Three games this year.  So I guess we won 50% more games this year.  Woo Hoo!  Break out the party hats.

You are not helping your boy out.  You need to learn when to let a sleeping dog sleep.

wonderboy

Actually they only won 1 game last year.

Yeh coach you don't deserve PM - don't know what you mean by justification, I feel (MHO) Morrilton is not a good stop for a quality coach.  Only because of the community support and etc., just don't think there is any upside.

DB are you gauging wins by the numbers - what gives?

How about ya'll re-read my post and try to answer it, based on what you saw over the season?
You both say that you know what to look for!  ::)
Like technique, pursuit angles, blocking, head across body tackling, eyes on numbers open field tackling, stuff like that... I wouldn't expect a change, over night, but hopefully you can see some positive things happening.  Never met Cody McNabb, don't really care if Morrilton gets their butts stomped for the next 30 yrs....  Do pull for underdogs though - love a good turn around story!

It is obvious Valley has a devote love for Cody Mcnabb and that is his right. I watched as the offense was called he seemed to have no input whatsoever. That was at the Silom Game. I understand giving your cordinators leeway if they are getting it done but am not used to seeing a head coach not have any input in play calling unless he doesn't have a grasp for play calling. If so then he doesn't need to be head coach IMO. It is obvious that he will play kids for who the parents are so maybe that will buy him some extra years if he doesn't turn it around. I don't think he was the right coach for the job.

wonderboy

you obviously have no idea of whats going on. sitting in the stands observing doesnt make you an expert. and trust me, coach mcnabb will play who deserves to play! who their parents are dont mean crap. you need to get your facts straight before you start running your mouth. To many armchair qb's in the world!

cyclones_52

as someone who has met and played for Coach McNabb, I think that most Morrilton people is see posting on this thread do not know how much of a quality coach they have on the field. Coach McNabb taught me many lessons not only on the football field, but in life as well. He taught me discipline, he taught me how to give everything I have into anything I do. He also taught me humility. Those three things have already helped me in life be the best person I can be. Sure Morrilton was 3-7 this year, but look at the last two years in comparison (2008- 2-8) (2009-1-9). There is improvement. Morrilton will be a whole lot better next year with so many kids coming back. You people in Morrilton need to quit be inpatient and let the man work. Until y'all quit living in 2005, nothing will ever get better there.

wonderboy

Until y'all quit living in 2005, nothing will ever get better there

Amen to that! +1

Morriltonhog, do you realize how much you post about Man-Love?  I would love to meet you  ;D  I've got this toothless hillbilly image visualized haha. It's always interesting to meet these characters on Fearless after posting with them. I'm fascinated with those Walmart Shopper Photos also.  Make my day and post back that you're actually a Good Lookin Cougar in heat!  ;)

Hey Valley this goes beyond your manlove for our new football coach.
QuoteIt is obvious Valley has a devote love for Cody Mcnabb and that is his right.

Valleysports

Definitely have issues:

Posted by: morriltonhogfootballfan
QuoteI heard that the delay was they didn't have everybody at the bus barn interviewed yet
QuoteI was told McNabb is not going to live in Morrilton. That had to be a plus in Adams eyes
QuoteGuess if Mcnabb comes and Shelly leaves then we can hire his wife to coach Basketball
QuoteI would like to know where all those pope county losers are at that where bragging on our coach. We have looked terrible so far and haven't improved the least bit in my opinion. I didn't expect to make the playoffs but did expect to play hard and look like we had a clue. Oh well wishful thinking I guess. When the people of Morrilton get enough maybe they will do something about it.

What spurned these issues?

QuoteHey mom what you don't know is some of the qualified coaches pulled their names out because the search committee told them that the interview was going to go on for several more weeks
QuoteI will throw name out there. Josh Price from Dardanelle. Young coach who works hard and doesn't like to lose.
QuoteThe sad thing is Dadanelle's coach used to coach at Morrilton. Still lives in Morrilton.
Quotepretty good article about coach J huh valley

Coach J? Is that what this is about? Neighbor, Son, Husband?
When did Coach J, who lives in Morrilton, start coaching Dardanelle Football?

I just looked up Dardanelles win record -
2006 - 8 wins
2007 - 8 wins
2008 - 6 wins
2009 - 3 wins
2010 - 4 ?

That's the beauty of these forums. You can get on hear, and trash a coach, but guess what? These comments can be pulled back up. The fact are simple, Chip you trashed the administration, and the search committee. You called the search committee the 3 stooges. I saw a really nice picture of Larry, Curley, and Moe holding the State Championship trophy. DB, you and Percussion Man were very critical of the hire, and of Coach McNabb himself after the first season. Now Percussion man gets upset when Valley Sport brings up his earlier post. PM you made the comments, no one else. Very simply, there were a lot of people wrong, and those people should be eating crow. I think Morrilton has the best coach in the state, and I hope we can keep him!  I would like to see some posters admit that they were wrong. Is it that hard to admit you were wrong, come on guys no ones perfect!

I have no problems admitting when I am wrong.  What I do have a problem with is when someone goes on a forum and reads another person's comments and acts like they know 100% of what was being said from a handful of posts and tries to accuse that person of "turning on the team", "bashing the program", etc.  I mean, come on now...we all go through our periods of frustration when things are not going well, especially after several years of disappointments, knowing the athletes are there. I have said many times recently,  I am a Devil Dog through and through, regardless of the ups and downs, and always cheer for them and support them.
