From all accounts, he never would've qualified academically.

If Bama can get Eddy Lacy in, Dixon could have made it.

That's because the rules are a mere suggestion to the Alabama program.

If Dixon was from Wynne or any school above 2A level, he would've been far more academically prepared for college.

That's a really moronic statement.  Since when does the size of the school have anything to do with how good the academics are? In fact, the smaller schools typically have better academics simply because of the smaller teacher/student ratio.  I'm not a fan of JC, just took offense to that statement...carry on.

If Dixon was from Wynne or any school above 2A level, he would've been far more academically prepared for college.

Dixon was a good student and shouldn't of had problems anywhere...............

THA TRUTH

Just gonna be honest if byran jones made it then Dixon wouldn't have had any trouble at all trust me

DragonBorn

If LSU could make Mo Claiborne eligible then anything is possible

Dragon I

Mo was bad.  Eddy Lacy was so bad though, they made a new rule to prevent it from happening again.

KD is currently 11th on Tech's career rushing list with 2,111 yds. He's 1,241 from the top spot going into his junior season as a DOG.

Great radio interview with KD.  Lot's of references to Strong and south Arkansas.  Talks about the role model responsibility.  Refreshing to hear a young man whose vocabulary includes "yes sir."

I think he was the first Strong student to ever receive a D-I football scholarship.  He seems to understand the responsibility that comes with showing kids something they thought was never possible, could be a reality.

He was. I really do not think strong will ever have another quite like him. He was a once in a life time.

No doubt about KD's talent level, but DeVante Lovett (OL) has committed to Tech for 2015.  Anything that give a small town kid hope that their dreams of playing after high school could come true is a good thing in my book.

Long time reader but just registered to post.  Believe Mike Bender graduated from Strong in 58 or 59.  Played for U of Ark & later was an assistant coach at Ark.

I believe you're right about Bender being from Strong.  Didn't he coach or AD in El Dorado in the last 10 years or so?

Welcome to FF.

That is correct.  Mike Bender did play for the Hogs and played on the 1964 National Title Team.

Gosh cheek!  How old are you!?  Most can't remember that far back.  Of course, most that post here weren't born for another 20+ years.  LOL!

It depends on what you consider old.  I was born after 1964 if that makes a difference.  I know Mike Bender personally.  Mikey and I are both members of the same Deer Camp near Strong, Arkansas.

KD 10 carries 160 yards...

• KD finished with 184 yards on the ground on just 12 carries (15.3 avg.), recording his 12th 100-yard rushing game of his career which ties for the second most in program history with Jason Cooper, Ryan Moats and Daniel Porter. The junior needs only one more to tie the record which is held by Jason Davis.

• KD recorded his eighth career game with multiple rushing touchdowns.

• The first score of the night came from KD who broke off a 99-yard touchdown run after the Bulldogs were pinned at their one yard line from a ULL punt. The run that came at the 4:25 mark of the first quarter was the longest in LA Tech and Conference USA history. For LA Tech, the previous record was 88 yards by Gerald Lawrence on Nov. 9, 1991 versus Southern Illinois. For C-USA, the previous record was 96 yards by Houston's Antowain Smith at Pittsburgh on Sept. 14, 1996.

• KD's 99-yard run was also the longest play in LA Tech history. The previous record was 94 yards (Tim Rattay to Troy Edwards vs. Nebraska on Aug. 29, 1998 and Denny Duron to Mike Barber vs. ULL on Sept. 21, 1973)

• Tech won 48-20 in an road game where they were a 15 point underdog.

• Tech @ North Texas will be a TV game Thursday, Sept 11 on CBS Sports Network with a 7:00 kickoff.

Dixon held under 100 yards running !  But LT light UNT up through the air.

Tech was up 35-7 going into the fourth quarter and KD's last carry came as the third quarter ended.  There was some mention of a tweaked ankle after that play, but mostly they just didn't want him injured in a game that for all intents and purposes was decided. Thru the third he had 19 carries for 75 yards (3.95/carry) with 1 TD. He also caught 1 or 2 passes for around 10 yards or so.

A lot of Tech's passing success was coming off play action fakes to KD. On one of the TD passes, KD had drifted out to the right flat and the QB pumped faked KD's way. Two UNT defenders bit on the fake and left the Tech receiver who scored wide open.

It was a good night for a Bulldog fan. UNT's first 6 series were each three plays then punt.

Here are KD's rushing stats for the year:
GP 3
Att 47
Gain 323
Loss 22
Net 301
Avg 6.4
TD 3
Long 99
Avg/G 100.3

Through three games, he's also caught 6 passes for 22 yards and one TD.

Tech has Northwestern State (FCS out of Louisiana) at home on Saturday, Oct. 20.  Game after that is at Auburn.

Looks like ole Super Man is still at it.  Glad he kid is doing great, just still wish Arkansas would have looked at him, think he would have been a great addition up on the hill.

I was a the North Texas v LaTech game. Sat front row right behind latech bench. La Tech tried to get KD going early but North Texas stacked the box. Then La Techs transfer QB from Iowa, Sokol I believe, started to sling it around and North Texas never adjusted. KD had like 10 carries for 16 yds in the first half. Then he got a good chunk of his 75 in the 3rd and was pulled at the 10 min mark of the 4th. La Techs QB is a good one. Way better than what they had last year. North Texas' starting QB was garbage and is being benched for the dual threat back up from here on out, at least that's what I've been told. La Tech has a solid O and if KD can stay healthy he should flirt with 1k, no doubt.

Sokol is an interesting story.  Played at the same Jr College Tim Rattay did.  Rattay is Tech's receivers coach and is a former NFL and Tech QB.  Rattay set quite a few NCAA and school records while in Jr College and Ruston.  Sokol broke a number of Rattay's Jr College records.

Sokol transferred to Iowa and red shirted. In his second year, he was listed as co-starter but rarely saw the field.  Since he graduated, he could transfer and play immediately for his final year.  The Iowa boards are going nuts about how well their "third string" QB is doing at Tech. ;D
