What’s up with Newport?

I'm normally not a basketball guy, but I'm just wondering what is wrong with Newport's basketball team? Is it bad coaching, or no talent?

They have a rich tradition of not giving a rip about hoops in that community.  And a good tradition in football. It's like a Barton.

They have a very talented junior high boys group coming up.

I watched them play a down Rose Bud team and get beat pretty easily. It was early in the season, but it was early for Rose Bud too.

A result of lack of consistency and lack of motivation to be good.  Maybe it'll change someday.  What would you expect from a team that decided to locate their home bleachers as far away from the court as possible?  I do think effort is being made by some to change the defeated mentality that has marred the program for years.

They need a hungry young coach to walk in there and want to change that culture. Otherwise their basketball talent will remain a waste.
