Boys and Girls....or Girls and Boys

For Girls it's a little easier....  I think Fayetteville will win that.   Probably beating North Little Rock or Central in the process.  Van Buren could be a dark horse as well.

For Boys it's a little more congested but this may be the year Northside breaks through if they keep playing how they have been playing.  But I think Cabot, Bryant and even North Little Rock (surprised they lost to Conway) are contenders.    I'm betting it'll be an all Central title game but I'm wondering about Bentonville.

They had alot of injuries early on bt since they've gotten everyone back they've been looking good.  Maybe they'll make a semi final.

Thoughts?

I think you have the three girls teams right when picking who it will be between. I think I would probably pick Central to win it, but I could see any of those 3 winning it.

I feel that the boys is pretty up in the air. Cabot has basically everything back from last year and Bridges is an excellent coach. Central has some serious talent with Cameron Johnson and is a guy that could ride all the way, and I feel Northside is the same way. Bryant, Conway, and NLR I could all see doing it as well. Will be fun to watch for sure.

If central girls couldn't get it done with the 9 college players they had last year, it won't ever happen in girls.  Soon as they get on a nice run, coach Greene calls a time out to take his own team out of rhythm.  Seen it all to many times

I agree.  If it comes down to coaching, I'll go with Fimple at NLR or Rimmer at Fayetteville over Central any day of the week.

Boys- a team from the 7A Central. This conference is brutal! Girls - picking Central Lady Tigers. I thought last year they had too much talent. Ingredients are just right for Tigers this season.

For girls, I only see three serious contenders: Fayetteville, LR Central, and NLR.  Outside contenders would be Conway and Van Buren but I think they are unlikely. Fayetteville and Central have played twice this year and split in close games.  Fayetteville has better depth and Central has better size.  But in both games played, Fayetteville was without UA signee Grayce Spangler who adds strength and physicality.  She is back now and will help Fayetteville with the match-ups.  Also, Fayetteville has clearly been getting better as the season progresses as freshman star Sasha Goforth has integrated into the lineup.  I only saw NLR in pre-season camp so I am eager to see when they square off in conference play against Central.  But right now I think Fayetteville and Central are the two best teams in the state and I think Fayetteville is better.

West Division - The only concern I have with Fayetteville in the running is they are not facing any in-conference powerhouses except VB.
Central Division - The top 4 are N.L.R; LR Central; Conway and Northside.   Northside lost by 5 to LR Central and just beat N.L.R (call it a steal if you want) on Friday.  A betting man could have become rich on that game!
So, it will be an interesting run down the stretch.

Yes, I agree the 7A Central is stronger than the 7A West. But Fayetteville beat some very good teams pre-conference.

Northside's record is odd.  They have lost to several mediocre teams but they have played Van Buren and Central tough, and to everyone's surprise beat NLR.  But given their overall record, I can't see calling them a top team.  So I would say there are 2 contenders in the West and 3 contenders in the Central division.  And we will see if Van Buren can hang with Fayetteville -- but at the least they shouldn't be subject to the 4th quarter mercy rule like every other conference game opponent Fayetteville has played so far.

I hope the Fayetteville and Van Buren girls game is a good one. They're both mowing down the West right now (Fayetteville's been more dominant, but VB still has an average margin of victory over 15 points). Perhaps it could be competitive.

I watched the game.  It wasn't close but it was good basketball.  VB is a good team and played hard. Fayetteville was just too deep and athletic for them. I don't see anybody beating them in conference play although VB gets another shot and next time at home so that would be the one to watch.

Razorback Red

On the boys side, I agree that it will be a team from the Central.  IMO, there are 4 teams with the talent to get hot and take home the title: NLR, Cabot, Northside and Central.  Central has some very close losses and will be hungry come playoff time.

The West is way down this year.  I would be shocked if West teams win more than 1, maybe 2 games in state tourney.  I could see a scenario where they don't win any games if the bracket plays out a certain way.  And that is hard to admit cause I'm a West homer.

Burks

On the boys side, I wouldn't sleep on Bryant or Conway either. Both have close losses and have talent to make run at State.

I agree that Fayetteville looks to be the front leader, but each of the other teams have been beaten by Northside except Central and the last game went to double OT.
Like most female teams, you never know who will show up on game night!   Looking forward to state, it show be a wild ride for several teams.

Yes, I have to say that based on conference play results, Northside GBB is looking a lot better than I originally gave them credit for. I haven't seen them play but given the results, they must be a different looking team now than the one that lost to Paragould, Marion, and Greene County Tech early in the season.

I'm picking Fayetteville to win the championship but you never know how teams will match up to each other until they play.  Also, while Fayetteville is loaded with athletes, they only have one post player (Jasmine Franklin) so if she gets in foul trouble early, a big team like Central might be able to take advantage.

Sounds like the Northside and North little rock boys had an epic 3 overtime battle Friday night.
