Here's a good one. In Alma we have 4 gas stations next to the interstate. This week the gas price went from $2.88 to $2.98 . Then this morning 2 of them is at $2.86.
I'm thinking why did 2 of them went down 12 cents. I go past Supercenter and they opened the new gas station Thursday at $2.85. I go to Fort Smith this afternoon on the way back I pass the Supercenter, now its at $2.83.
I hope the gas stations keep going at it. Maybe by Sunday it might be $2.75. :D

I went to Wal-Mart so I purchased gas and was surprised it was down 3 cents to $2.82 with a discount of course.  I was very pleased...I left feeling good and decided to go home by way of downtown Nashville.  As I rounded the corner and saw the "Alps" sign I became a little upset, as the price of gas was only $2.79.  Another lesson learned the hard way.  Wally World is not always cheapest, they just like to make you think so....SS

Sunday night I drove by the Shell station in Pottsville-$2.75;six miles down the road in Atkins-$2.89. Why!?

Here's my big question:

If Wal-Mart charges the same price for Heinz Ketchup and Velveeta cheese, then why do they have different prices at their stores for gas?  They deliver off the same truck and you will find different prices in Ft Smith, Fay, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville.

??????

well, actually, they don't deliver off the same truck.  a typical gas truck holds around 8200 gallons.  Most stations have 10,000 tanks in the ground.  So it takes 1 turck to fill them up.  That truck has to go back to the rack to fill up again.  Then you have freight charges to add.  Freight charges are per gallon for delivery.  We have two stations within two miles of each other, and the freight is always different.

BUT, more than likely, if you see there is a big difference in the price, it is because they are in a competitive are in one, and not in the other.  If Murphy is 2.75 in Springdale and 2.89 in Rogers, it is simply reaping more benefits from the good folks of Rogers.  For that reason, I HATE MURPHY OIL.  Can't blame them, though.  We are the idiots for letting it happen.

BTW, the price at our station is Marion is 2.73 today.

A little perspective:

If you ask any convenience store owner they will tell you that they only make a couple of cents per gallon of gasoline.  I say hogwash to that.  Over the weekend, gas has consistently been 20-23 cents per gallon higher in Morrilton than in Russellville.  Now for the perspective.  Each one of those tankers that you see hauling gasoline is hauling anywhere between 7500 and 8500 gallons.  Most convenience stores sell at least one tanker full every few days.  Some sell a tanker or more every day.  Let's do the math.  For every penny of profit the store makes $75.00 per tanker.  So 10 cents is $750.00.  20 cents $1500.00.  And that is just in extra profit.  I am of the belief that some of the main benefactors of high gasoline prices are the convenience store owners and the bulk fuel suppliers that they buy from.  I would just about bet that the stores in Russellvill that are 23 cents less than the ones in Morrilton are still making 15 to 20 cents per gallon profit.

Look I think they all ought to make money but as consumers we are getting raped on this deal.

holy crap.  Still near 2.80 in vilonia, last time i looked.

I was 2.57 when I came through Russellville this evening.

A little perspective:

I don't think that is the right word to use here. If you are a man with any morals you should know that terminology like that shouldn't be used to describe the gas situation. BTW, if you don't like them making that much money off of you, buy at the cheapest place or ride a bike in this heat.

$2:62 today at the Quick Mart in Cleburne TX   It has been dropping here all week?

Lucky you.

We've hit a standstill at $2.80.

AB™

In Ft. Smith by the college it's still around $2.82 at most places.  There is a little podunk gas station that on Hwy 64 in Van Alma.  If you odn't pay attention you'll think the place is shut down but I saw some people getting gas there today and it's $2.68 a gallon.  Wal-Mart is still $2.69.  But it's only about 3 miles further to get to the place where it's $2.68
