StateChamps09

You think so? Ehh Nevada is gonna have raw talent when there juniors move up, Kirby is a running and gunning team... Hows bay even doing right now?

Silky Johnson

StateChamps09

And we don't have to talk about that one loss. Lol

Silky Johnson

Lol yes Guy- Perkins beat Bay in a game that meant very little in Bay's season. No one said they would go undefeated.

yep....Jacob Roark and Concord beat Bay to begin the season the same season that Bay Beat Concord int he finals...

arstatechamp13

Very sad HF. But true story. Concord won by 15. What does this mean for Guy? Only time will tell

StateChamps09

It means that guy beat concord and bay by 20

Major homer lol we get it. You think guy could beat Jordan and the Bulls, and hutch is a god.

HorseFeathers

Well...Jordan is in his fifties now...

Thechosen1

Just because guy beat bay in an early season game that bay set up for themselves doesn't mean that Emerson, bay, Kirby can't beat them. Just let them get a lil cocky and slip up and get beat. The way hutch plays can at times be dangerous and especially if any of these teams I mentioned is hitting 3's. IMO

There's no major homer to it. I'll admit bay is decent, and I'll give Emerson and Kirby credit as I have... I know all these kids personally and know there work ethic, all these kids have goals and they strive to reach them. There going to be a hard team to beat is all I'm saying. And when people try to discredit these kids, it does set an uneasy feeling in me. I know, first hand, what it takes to win a state championship, and These boys have got it. Of course upsets and injurys are always something to worry about. There level headed kids believe it or not, I've watched them grow and play together since they were all in third grade. Minus a few of course, but they will be a very difficult team to beat. Some commenting I know have seen them play, others haven't and are trying to form an opinion on them, which literally makes zero sense.

Thechosen1

Bay played absolutely awful against y'all and y'all won by 15. Just saying y'all aren't unbeatable besides 35 is shooters, that's all I've seen. I promise you bay Emerson and Kirby all have an eye on guy and want nothing more than a championship as well. As of right now, I have in this order, guy, Emerson, bay, Kirby. Kirby will also be tough come tourney time I'll give them credit as well.

StateChamps09

I understand that and recognize that, like I will say one final time, I'm not taking anything from bay, there a good team, and guy didn't play to hot against you guys at all. I mean on the original guy vs bay post, me and you had an argument where I said see you in the state tournament. I would never talk down on another team, even if they were "horrible" they are first and for most children after all. I love watching these kids play. And that's all of them, im obsessed with sports, and like every typical "1a fan" I take pride in these kids, again see you guys in the state tournament, in the words of hutch "I hope it's a barn burner" (close one) see you guys soon, and good luck the rest of your season until then.

As I said before, barring upsets, and unless AAA changes the brackets, Guy and Bay will meet in state tournament semifinals......should be a great game.  And again barring upsets, injuries, or the unknown, either Kirby or Emerson will likely be on other side of the bracket.  If Guy can beat Bay and then a very good team in the finals, then they will deserve to be state champs.  Same goes for Bay, or Emerson, or Kirby, or ICC...etc.  Next question is, wonder if Guy will make a pitch to host the state tournament?

StateChamps09

This is true; as is for any school in Arkansas, lol; no Guy is not planning on bidding state; "there's no money to be made for schools in the regional and state tournaments, per school admin.

Central Ark

Most schools don't bid to make money, it's about getting either home court or a very close drive.

Chicky

You sure don't make money by putting players, cheerleaders, and coaches up in a hotel and feeding them for a week.  Not to mention the advantage you gain by sleeping in your own bed and staying in your routine.  I wonder what it cost Bay last year to stay all week or Valley Springs who had two teams stay the week in south Arkansas?

Thechosen1

Bay stayed all week last year with state tourney being pushed back because of snow. It had to cost a fortune

StateChamps09

This is true, but it's hard for any 1a school to host the state tourney; because of the attendance at the games. I spoke with an admin on this subject a few weeks ago, and he said normally it makes a school spend more money then they can make, was my point.

Chicky

I don't know about the attendance part, some of the folks up north could help out on what North Arkansas College holds, but the games I attended there a couple of years ago were well attended, as were the games at Nashville last year.  Although I like them close so I can go watch, I sure wouldn't want to host one, seems to me like a big headache for a few workers and director so the rest of us can sit back and watch the show while the AAA ads up the tally.  ;D

StateChamps09

A 1a school hosting at a college and a 1a school hosting at a college are two completely different things... Most 1a gyms simply aren't big enough

Oldref

Nashville/Kirby did a great job hosting and it was a large enough place to hold the crowds. Was a long trip from NEA but I will take that over having it again in a place that cant hold the crowds or doesn't have any place to eat or park. Hope it is someplace in Central Arkansas that will hold the crowds.  It has outgrown any 1A facility in Arkansas.

I think WSGF may be large enough...not sure of actual capacity though.

It is a nice place and kind of central located compared to lots of places.......wonder how many it holds?

StateChamps09

Not sure on wsgf capacity, I do remember in 09 although I was on the court that the stands being rather packed, lol.

I can name a couple of places that were toooooooo small in the late 80's and 90's.  Let's see, Conway St. Joseph where we got there at 5:00, gym was packed by 6:00 for a 7:00 pm tip.  Also, one sided Wickes where the Fire Marshall shut the doors and wouldn't let anyone else in until the Wickes fan base cleared out after their girls finished playing.  Don't know how many WSGF seats but of the 1A gyms in the state it would have to be in the top from what I remember from '09.  Agree on Kirby doing a great job last year from what I saw, probably because they paid for two teams to stay all week in Harrison the year before. :)

Silky Johnson

If Bay gets it at 5A Valley view I think seating and hotels won't be a problem. If there isn't another state tournament close by there are plenty of restaurants and lodging choices. I'd say it and WSGF are the best places to bid.

StateChamps09

Someone (cont remember who) hosted at Clinton high school in 07 I believe it was, and the seating was decent there, and I believe someone hosted it in Prescott a few years before that... I don't remember for sure though, we're talking about 8+ years ago. Lol

Shirley hosted it at Clinton.

arstatechamp13

Well I can tell you WSGF is way bigger than Bradley and they had the tournament there in 2013. That was absolutely ridiculous

Chicky

Bradley's is a new facility, isn't it?  Didn't get to go to that one.

Yes. And way to small to host a state tournament.

Read an article from 08-09 school year and it says capacity is 1,400.

Silky Johnson

Despite what you may think I have no ill will towards Izard County, same with concord, guy, etc. Bay has played all of these teams multiple times and developed somewhat of a rivalry but it's all in fun and competitive spirit. That being said ICC does not need to have the state tournament. If they beat bay out for the regional tourney bid  then I'll be driving to Brockwell that week. For them to have state would leave many teams traveling a decent distance from hotel to their game. Not everyone will be able to stay in Melbourne and besides Batesville there isn't reall another good choice.

StateChamps09

Yeah honestly id like to see it stay around central Arkansas...

BeastieBoy13

WSGF gym can hold around 1500 with people standing around the top.

not so slim shady

Heard from a reliable source that both ICC and WSGF will be bidding on 1A state.

Silky Johnson

If valley view doesn't get it for 5A bay will bid at VV. I figure those will be the 2 or 3 bids with WSGF or Bay @VV being where the tourney is. Calico and ICC should get regionals for region 2 unless Bay gets a lucky bid which would be out of pity at this point lol
