Greenwood over Alma -- It's not about who we like more; it's about who we like to win more.

:D. Thanks!

Wait just a second...you don't like us to win!!? What type of recent history, current season results, or anything else makes you think that?

But in all seriousness Rich, would Alma beating Greenwood be a sizable upset?

I don't want to do anything dirty since I originally set out to just use Rebel as a rabbit and fade away before the playoffs ... but I do want to keep Rebel's picks on ice this week. I have about eight or nine I want to go the other way on and see if Reb can't make a big move.
I also have to make an admission that last week, at the last minute, Rebel went with Lonoke over Stuttgart ... just because. Well, because I saw one of the leaders posted that game and I thought to myself "self, this would be a good game to go against the grain on."
And it was a resoundingly correct pick.
Thanks for that one, 7AFBFAN ... I owe ya.

And finally, the 5,000th loss will come this week following a 92-12 record last week. Sooooooo ... I've decided that the glory that goes with handing RPS its 5,000th loss will justly go to the team that posts the biggest upset. That simply means the team that overcomes the largest point spread no matter if they win by 100 or by 1 in overtime.

Here are the Week 10 picks:
Ashdown over Fountain Lake -- Panthers are tough to beat at home.
Harding Academy over Bald Knob -- Wildcats are just tough to beat anywhere.
Bentonville over Fayetteville -- I hate when FHS beats me on a pick and they could do it this week.
Booneville over Lavaca -- Barring a letdown after the Charleston loss by the Bearcats.
Bryant over Conway -- Bryant is home and evidently every bit as good as Conway on paper.
Fairview over Watson Chapel -- Even though I'm sick of the Cardinals' propensity to lay an egg.
Pottsville over Clinton -- Apaches finish second in the league if they win at Clinton.
Conway Christian over Bigelow -- This is a testy one with Conway Christian locking up the top seed.
Dardanelle over Subiaco Academy -- Thank you, finally, for a gimme, Eddie.
Monticello over DeWitt -- A meaningless game as the playoffs go ... it's all about want-to in this one.
Cross County over Earle -- The week off for Thunderbirds could really work for them here.
McGehee over Fordyce -- Coming off a big loss to Smackover, Owls' confidence might be shaken.
Greenwood over Alma -- It's not about who we like more; it's about who we like to win more.
Hoxie over Manila -- Another breather. It would be a miracle if Manila were to win this one.
Jonesboro over Marion -- The check's in the mail, Eddie, for giving us three sure things, anyway.

Little Rock Catholic over Van Buren -- Rockets weren't far from really being a contender in 2014.
Episcopal over Glen Rose -- smh over Beavers' horrible response to 2013 championship appearance.
Magnet Cove over Cutter Morning Star -- Panthers let one slip away last week and will be furious.
Malvern over Arkadelphia -- The 4A-7 teams continue to just beat up on each other.
Marshall over Yellville-Summit -- I saw Yellville last week. It was hard to watch.
Maumelle over LRCA -- The concern here is that Hornets have already won the OUTRIGHT title.
Mena over Waldron -- The greatest oxymoron of this decade is "Waldron football."
Mount Ida over Lafayette County -- Lions bounce back after last week's loss to Gurdon.
Osceola over Rivercrest -- Seminoles have turned it on, but nobody has a better idea of how to hit their "off" switch than Colts.
Shiloh Christian over Pea Ridge -- But aren't we all rooting for Pea Ridge, anyway?
Pine Bluff over Benton -- The home-team factor leans to the Zebras, but home-field is little more than a coin flip.
Warren over Dollarway -- Lumberjacks grade out better, but Cardinals are tough in this role.
Robinson over Ozark -- While we pick on Morrilton and Glen Rose for not having any staying power at the top, we can't forget Hillbillies' plunge from 2012 state runner-up to their performance of the last two seasons.
Texarkana over Sheridan -- Razorbacks couldn't possibly lose this one, right?
East Poinsett County over Walnut Ridge -- Eddie throws us another bone cuz he's just a good guy and an awesome Crossett fan. Go Eagles!

Hey Rich you not picking the Benton Pine Bluff game?

Standing as of the end of the regular season:

B.G.   481 (25 this week) --Second best score of the week among leaders.
7AFBFAN   478 (22)- Not a bad week for last weeks co-leader given tough slate of games
Big Fan   477 (22)- Right there
RebelYell   475 (20)- Wrong side of the coinflip games
Rich Sanders   475 (21)- RPS did well overall but short sample size hurt this week
ball_hawg87   469 (23)- Consistently in the Top 10
thescout   467 (21)- missed chance to move up
Radiotalker   466 (26)- really strong week lurks on outer fringe
ashdownpanther   463 (21)
Alien   462 (25)
Oldman   462 (21)
Soirem   461 (23)
foxhole1220   460 (21)
outlaws4life26   460 (20)

B.G.(me) was fortunate on his close picks this week and takes the lead into the playoffs.  With 58 games this coming week this is really the last big chance to make a move for those more than 10 games back.  The question now is if B.G. will go conservative and play the favorites or still pick a few upsets each week.  The thinking being that if B.G.(still me) goes with favorites, he forces others behind to go opposite in a desperate attempt at catch up.

Vegas Odds to Win Pick'em

B.G. 3/2
7AFBFAN 3/1
Big Fan 4/1
Rebel Yell 4/1
Rich 6/1

B.G.   533  (52 of 58)  Strong week for the leader

7AFBFAN   529 (51)  Holding on.  Still a serious contender
RebelYell   526 (51)  Ying uses some cognition to edge Yang
Rich Sanders   525 (50) Yang remarkably consistent
ball_hawg87   519 (50)  Outer edges of the race
thescout   519 (52) good week gains zero ground
ashdownpanther   517 (54) tied for best score among leaders

Think I missed 9.

Conway
Gosnell
Greenwood
Gurdon
H A
Hot Springs
Pea Ridge
Dollarway
Pocahontas

Two late changes paid off.  Osceola and Fordyce.

Did any of you catch up?  That's not that good but it was Upset City tonight with road teams winning 16 of 36 games.

Ditto. Benton will have their hands full with the tradition rich defending state champs and not sure Dardanelle beats Nashville in 4A.

Reb missed the same 2, made the switch on McCrory thanks to pick.

Anytime rich.

How does the rps see the semis in 2A? And does it factor in the difficulty of beating a good team twice in one season (Hazen-  Mccrory) ?

Not as difficult as some might think.
Just updated that part of the spreadsheets this morning and the record for the team that won the first game is 173-82. That's better than two-thirds success. Sure, yeah, there are lots of games that go against this (Fayetteville-Bentonville seemingly every time they meet and Harding-Mayflower, Arkadelphia-Mena -- the only two reversals this year) but usually it's because the teams were pretty comparitively close. Don't know that McCrory compares that closely with Hazen.

I could break it down, I guess, into teams coming off 30+ point wins (like Hazen over McCrory) but I haven't done that yet.

I'll send you the spreadsheet if you want to do the computating. Just send me an email so I remember.

Ok

Here are the standings with just two weeks and nine games left.  Only four are mathematically alive,

B.G.   576- Gets 16 of 18 this week making it tough to be caught.  Has been the frontrunner most of the season and is a clear favorite now.

7AFBFAN   572- Got 15 and I figure had SSide in what would have been a two game swing.  If so, that would have given this a bit more drama.  Has been right on top the entire year.

RebelYell   570- 15 corrects is good but not good enough to take the lead. RY is one of just four that will beat the RPS this year.
Big Fan   570-  17 correct to make a small move.  Nice job all year.

----------------------------Gonna Beat the RPS-----------------------

Rich Sanders   564
Oldman   560
ashdownpanther   558
foxhole1220   557
outlaws4life26   555
Radiotalker   554

Vegas Odds:
B.G. 1/5
7AFBFAN 6/1

Re: 2014 Beat the RPS Fearless Friday Pick'em(Standings Updated 11/21)
« Reply #81 on: November 30, 2014, 02:17:58 pm »

Vegas Odds:
B.G. 1/5
7AFBFAN 6/1
Rebel Yell 25/1
Big Fan 25/1

Now comes the strategy part.

Correct B.G. I did. Was trying to make a move with that as I knew you would go with the logical best team and pick FV. Now I have no choice but to try insane picks to catch you.

Will not happen. Im not sure if they play 10 times Earle would win once.

He's not chewing on anything. He's just has something against Junction City's success..

12th Man is glad you know all about him and fill in places you don't know, but he also thinks it's a little creepy you followed him up here

Says the guy who is always talking in first person.... I didn't "follow you" up here. I went to this thread, and seen what you had said.

Well, the last week is for second place. BG has clinched the top spot. He can coast across the finish line.

That just three people beat the rps speaks to the validity of the system. He posted picks beforehand and people still couldn't beat it.
