Any word on your Friend bleudog?

Still remembering in our prayers..........

I understand there will be a test on Monday that will give them a clearer indication of what they're up against.  Not sure if the results will be available that day or not.

Thanks for asking.

..........Good Luck at the Big Bass Bonanza!!!  Remember sunscreen too.

I'm not much of a fisherman so I'll be leaving that one up to the experts.  Do hope it works out well.

A few years ago they had an auction.  Thanks to Kevin Payne (who was with the Chicago Bears at the time) and James Anderson I think that worked out pretty well.

Was it a Huge Success, the Big Bass Bonanza for Junction City Athletics,  Yes?................

Test didn't come back with good news.  Not sure what their steps going forward will be.  Continued prayers would be appreciated.

Please include Martin and Ronda's daughter-in-law in those prayers too.  She's has recently been faced with a sudden, serious medical challenge herself.

Not football, but here you go:  CLICK HERE

Congratulations to the Bolen family.

It's a shame the Union County Sports Hall of Fame selection committee didn't induct Coach Bolen in the inaugural class last year.  But at least they made up for that the first chance they got. 8)

For those who don't know, Coach Bolen died of a heart attack on the field during the first round of the '86 state championship tournament.  He is buried in the cemetery next to the JC ballfield.  Probably the plot nearest the field.  There is a plaque commemorating Coach Bolen just outside the fence on the third base side of home plate.

+1 post bleu
Al Bolen was a coach among coach's and showed taking a class B school and winning the overall State Title three times. His lost record of 63 games in 19 years come to 3.3 games a year quite phenomanal by anyone standards. JC's baseball field should be named after him as he was the one that got them to the dance............ ;)

They won't play.  They barely had eleven for any of their spring practices, which their administration allowed them to do 1st and 2nd period for two weeks immediately following Spring Break.  Hermitage is in absolute shambles.  Supposedly a number of the strong freshman on their baseball team, which is solid, are leaving for Warren.

I was told as long as they had "11" they were going to play. However, if you are letting kids out of school for spring practice and still can't reach 11...chances are it isn't happening.  I was also told they would not do any football-related activity until school started.  No two-a-days/one-a-days in August, no summer program, etc.

thunderlizard

Hermits averaged 13 players per day during spring practice.  Weight room will be open 8-3 daily and 7-9 nightly every week this summer except the two dead week periods.  7on7 schedule has not been completed yet but the Hermits will most likely host a tournament. Off season started after football season was over and still continues.

Great news on their daughter-in-law.   It was touch and go for awhile but things are going in a positive direction.  Lot of rehab in front of her, but she's shown she's a tough one.

I'm going from memory, but isn't or hasn't there been a gateway sign that I think has/had the name Allen on it?  Who was he and how did that come about?

Wilson

its for JB Allen. . the biggest supporter of JC baseball there ever was. . He owned Allen Brothers construction.  the company was a bridge contractor for the state of Louisiana but also did all types of concrete work.   In the summer and fall of 1980 the baseball field was completely rebuilt. . JB donated all the concrete that did the dugouts, bleacher slabs, and concession stand slab. . he also had all the welding done for the backstop and fencing. .plus donated the crane that set the backstop and fencing. . He also was involved with building the new dugouts in 93. . The park was gonna be renamed Al Bolen field at Allen park. . but after almost a year of saying it would be. .it was nixed 5 days before the ceramoney

Thanks for the info.

What are your thoughts on Bolen-Hux Field at Allen Park?

Wilson

At this point Bleu i really dont care what they call it. . Hate to be that blunt about it. . .if they change it and it has coach Bolen's name in it somewhere that would be nice. . But the way Coach Bolen was treated in 86 by certain people and then to break Mrs. Bolen's heart one more time the way it was done, less than 10 months before she passed away. . .i have kinda washed my hands of what the JC school system will or wont do anymore.

http://www.fearlessfriday.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=67264.msg1829883#msg1829883

That post was from almost four years ago.  Right now there are approximatley 110 kids (K-12) in the 9th Ward of Claiborne Parish who are allowed to attend the school closest to their home.  They still are not counted for Arkansas funding and still are counted for AAA classification purposes.

Whiskey, the kids and coaches in the Junction City community work too hard to have their accomplishments lessened by half-truth, innuendo and ignorance.

For you Duck Dynasty fans,

"Robertson went to work as a school teacher for several years after graduating from Tech, obtaining his master's degree in education via night classes, with a concentration in English."

Nope, wont happen.  2A state comes from another part of the state this season.  Just had to say that, since this is "The Marathon Thread", Good luck in District, hope yall do well this season.  I still like to use that Rick Flair, to "Be The Man" you got to "Beat the Man".........

Visited Gravette's website, and was curious about JC. Very Nice website, and well put together for a smaller school, lot's of team pictures are really nice too.  Do you know if the school pays to have their website done?  or does someone do it that works at the school or volunteer's?

Just seem's to be a difference in schools webpages, not sure if it's knowledge or dedication but some almost seem to be professionally done.

Hope practices are going well.

NEark tigers

Seems that JC has a lot of tradition in south Arkansas.......

Cant wait to see the JC Dragons at the Bulldog Nation of Earle on August 31. It should be a great game of football powers.

JC has a staff member who has the additional title of website manager.  The position is handled on a stipend type basis.  And yes, she does a very good job on the website.  +1 MP. ;D
