His most cited work in "100 Years of Solitude" but I found it a disconcerting introduction to his work.  I preferred his short stories for evening reading.  A very good introduction might be "Following Her Trail of Blood in the Snow"

As imaginatively bizarre as much of his work, his autobiography also seems to cross the line between reality and fantasy.
