"Lawrence of Arabia" actor Peter O'Toole dies

http://tv.yahoo.com/news/actor-peter-o-39-toole-dies-long-illness-183159715.html

Sad that he came so close the Oscar so many times.

Laurence of Arabia was unfortunate in being the same year as Peck's Mockingbird
Split the vote with Burton in Becket and both lost to Harrison
Got completely hosed with The Lion in Winter
Ran up against Wayne's Cogburn, Brando's Godfather, Kingsley's Ghandi and Deniro's Raging Bull.
Lost his last ditch effort to Whitaker's Last King

He could have won as many as eight and six were in the top fifty performances of all time, yet ran into other top 50s.   Easily the best to never win one.

Here's one that got by me.  He died December 29.

Andy Granatelli, 90:

Prominent Indycar owner from the 1940s to the 80s.  Owner of two Indy 500 winning cars (1969, 1973).  Brought turbine power to Indy in 1967. Also the CEO of STP Corporation. At the time of his death he was the last living driver to have attempted to qualify in the 1940s at Indy (crashed qualifying in 1948).

I remember him planting a kiss on Mario Andretti after he won the 1969 race.  A true giant in auto racing.  R.I.P.

Blair was also the guy who came and got Reggie Jackson just before Jackson and Billy Martin had their famous argument.

Uncle Ivan

Bob Grant, talk radio pioneer out of NYC, died on the 31st.
