Interesting - I could go to that. So are there weight lifting teams, from each school, or you reckon Coach Holt might just bring some of our football players (my kid) to make a team? I'd like for him to see that wether he's in it or not. You going Bug?

keep me informed, I'll go if I know about it
Dont know whether you could go as an individual or not. Dont see why not. Just to see how your son measures up to the others around the state and could be good PR for him. Take a camera.
Oh he's still a baby - 6'3", 220 lb's - but still young you know (15). Squat and Deadlift have a long way to go. I'll get him and his buddies to go over and check it out. Someone will probably put em to work. He might already know about it.

Valley: remember the event in R-ville is the state WEIGHTLIFTING meet, not powerlifting.
Oh OK! What does that mean? :-[
They don't have to do all three lifts, maybe just the ones they want too?
Kinda like Track-n-Field?
They are only doing bench press and power clean... Too many concerned with safety of squat and deadlift. I realize this is ridiculous but dont get to make the call.
EVENT: 19th Annual High School Weightlifting Championship
DATE: April 2nd
LOCATION: Russellville Jr. High School, Russellville Arkansas
TIME: The weigh in will begin at 7:45 a.m. for those lifters qualifying for a weight class the day of the meet. We will only weight lifters that are border line on qualifying for a weight class. If you are sure your lifter qualifies for his weight class then there is no need to have him weigh in. Coaches will meet at 8:15 with a lifters meeting shortly after. There will be a short warm up time immediately following the lifters meeting for about 15 minutes with lifting beginning at 9:00 a.m. The meet should end between 12:00 and 1:00.
MEET LIFTS: Power Clean and Bench Press
WEIGHT CLASSES: 123 and under, 124-132, 133-148, 149-165, 166-181, 182-198, 199-220, 221-242, 243-259, 260 and up. To be in a certain weight class the lifter must weigh exactly the class limit or less. Example: anyone that weighs exactly 198 or less would be eligible for the 198 weight class. If the lifter were 198.5 he would lift in the 220 weight class or higher. Hopefully this will answer any questions about the weight classes. ONLY ONE LIFTER PER WEIGHT CLASS FROM EACH SCHOOL. If you bring an alternate, he will only lift if one of your lifters is unable to lift.
COST: The cost is $100.00 per team. Please make checks payable to State Weight Meet. If a lifter lifts as an individual it will cost $15.00. Medals will be given to overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each weight class. Teams will be ranked by the amount of weight lifted per team for all ten weight classes. An overall team championship trophy will be given for the overall team champion and a team plaque will be given for team winners of each classification. We will award team trophies in this manner. The 7A and 6A classifications will be combined to compete for the 7A/6A state champion. There will be a champion crowned in the 5A, 4A, 3A, and 2A classifications.

Yeah, I mean why would you want to model a weight meet after Texas, Louisana and about 47 other states.
You, being the weight lifting guru you are, should know that it is not healthy on the boy's skeletal, central nervous system, and circulatory system by trying to achieve new maxes on Bench/PC/Squat/DL all in one day. Plus, many top weight/football programs don't even use dead lift any more.

Winning the 2A has historically put a team in a good position to win the overall.

Junction City earns state weightlifting championship
JUNCTION CITY – Last year the Junction City Dragon weightlifting team had to settle for second place in the state meet, as they came up 15 pounds short of the title. It was the motivation for this year's team as they prepared to compete for the state title.
It turned out to be all the motivation the Dragons needed.
The Dragon weightlifting team won the Overall and Class AA state titles with ease, as they outlifted their competition by over 500 pounds.
More than 40 teams competed in the event, which was held in Russellville. It was the Dragons first overall weightlifting title and the second in class AA.
Coach David Carpenter was very pleased with the results.
"The guys worked very hard for this. After what happen last year, they were determined to not let that happen again. I am very, very proud of this group."
The Dragons had four medal winners. In the 198-pound division, Adam Tuma finished first with a 330-pound lift in the bench and 285 in the powerclean. Mitchell Cole finished third in the 181-pound division with a lift of 290 bench and 245 in the powerclean.
Chris Miller won the 148-pound division with a lift of 245 in the bench and 240 in the powerclean.
In the 123-pound division, Demarcus Kemp dominated by setting three state records. All three records were previously set by him in last year's meet.
Kemp lifted 250 pounds on the bench. On powerclean he lifted 235 pounds for an overall total of 485 pounds. All three lifts established new state records.

Evidence I found many years ago for my masters thesis.
It would be nice to know all of the winners in the annual high school weightlifting championship. I see where Russellville had their article but is there a list with all of the winners. If anyone knows of the site to see all winners please post it.
If you email Coach Holt at Russellville High, he will send you a complete list. It is excel format so it wont post easily on this forum. :D

I believe your evidence has since been disproven. But send me some of it in an email so I can read it for myself.
Every college that I know of does multiple forms of deadlift and heavy good morning to strengthen the posterior chain. Also, just about every successful high school program uses four main movements to strengthen there athletes. The four main are bench, deadlift, squat, and power clean.
Yes, deadlift can be dangerous but there is no greater lift for core strengthening and thickening. IMO and the opinion of many others. Form must be taught strictly and early with lighter weights.
Always open to evidence through experience! Book knowledge is only worth the paper it is printed on without practical, hands on experience and evidence.

I have a bachelors in Exercise Science, in all the years I've been training (17) I have NEVER had one person come to me and ask if I had a degree, much less what it was in or where it was from. Theoretical knowledge is a great thing, but unless you know how to apply what you read, unless you actually know how to tweak different exercises for different athletes you really have nothing more than many books with different ideas. Its kinda like reading a Chiltons manual then trying to go out drag racing, you know how the engine is supposed to work, you know what to do if certain issues pop up, but you don't know anything else until you run it down the track a few times.

Thanks for the info.
Is the team data available somewhere?
Kind of interesting JC won the overall 2A title but doesn't appear to have had any team member fall in an individual category top five. Guess that speaks well for the overall team effort.
Good Question! Let me get someone to verify what I posted, cause it was passed on to me. Slownthemud, maybe you can look it over and verify the accuracy?
Good job getting the results listed here. I will check them sometime this week.
Does anybody know the records for each A classification and the overall record?
Also does anybody know coach Holts Number?

Are you sure? I do not think they can win their own conference. England and Carlisle will be in the mix along with Des Arc. The 6AA Conference is well represented at the meet.

165 Class is wrong. Pettrus from Carlisle crushed the bench record, and the total weight. 360 on the bench.
That is right, I remember that. This is what was sent out from the russellville coaches that run it.

I think the 2AA will be between, Junction City, Carlisle, England or Mineral Springs.
Any word on how it went?
Des Arc is a sleeper.

I don't know so I'm afraid that help will have to come from someone else.
In 2A, I understand JC finished fourth (a lifter's total didn't get to count because of a technique issue). Also understand Parkers Chapel finished 7th.
Our total was 3950 I know that much, me and another two guys had to move up weight classes die to our regulars having a baseball game. I was just wanting to compare with other schools from 2A
