Starting in 2000, what are the top 5 to 8 football programs in 2A?

Since 2004, Rison is 122-40-1 according to MaxPreps.
Averages about 9-3.
Didn't list records for 00, 01, 02. 03.
0 losing seasons.
State Championships in 2000 and 2004
At least one other trip to the title game (2015)

Think it's safe that they are in the top 5.

Ventman

Carlisle won 123 games from 2001-2016. They would probably make the top 8. I'm sure Des Arc is in there as well.

baseball man

I know Junction is in 3a now but a record of 206-35 from 99-16. Is impressive.

Very impressive

Ventman

Has JC hired a new coach yet? They dominated 2A football for a long time. Remains to be seen if they can handle the 3A teams.

Dr. Defense

Barton would be mentioned in the all time conversation for 2A but I'm not sure how they've been overall in this time frame

Des arc has won 125, with 2 runners up. Atleast 3 conference titles. Have 4 straight year's of atleast making the quarter finals. 42 wins last 4 years.

Thats a good run for the Eagles and sounds like they are going to be tough again next year.

No i dont think Junction has hired anybody.

M.I. D

Since 2000 Mount Ida has 2 state titles. Multiple Conference titles. Another semi final run in 2002 and a quarterfinal team in 2015.

M.I. D

ALL time in no order ill name a few.

Barton
Rison
Danville
Junction City
Carlisle
Mount Ida
Harding Academy
Mountain Pine
Dierks

Some of those are now AAA schools and some havent been good in awhile but were very good back in the day but those would be in my top 10 all time AA programs.

From what I am hearing they may not announce until February.

All JC needed this year to handle the 3A, was "the crew" that handled the 2 A. Those horses could have won 5A titles. Their team that fielded (when Dancy was a sr.), arguably was the best 2A team that has ever been fielded in this state. Coach Carp could have easily beaten every opponent on their schedule by 100 points leading up to the play off, but generally benched his horses by half time, every game. As a whole, Was the 8 that weak those years ? I don't think so, they were just that good.

Ventman

That was in the past, 3A ball is a little different from 2A. Gonna be tougher for them to field a dominating team like they had in 2013. Those kinda teams don't come around very often.

Des Arc's 76 was 2A i think. I was looking at the trophy today and there were 40+ players listed for that team.

Most all of the delta has declined in population from that time to the present. Pretty sad to think about. Many East and South schools have dropped in classification in the last decade.

DA was 2A in 76 but Arkansas classes went 1A-5A in 76. Harding Academy won 1A in 76 and 77. Parkin (where I work) won 2A in 77.

Alot of schools are defunct. MT. Pine won 1A in 78-79 but now don't have enough to field a team. Parkin won 2A in 77. No longer a school. Jefferson Prep a private school in Pine Bluff won 1A in 81, now defunct.

Murfreesboro probably belongs on that list.  Pretty darn good from mid 80's through early 2000's.  Got beat by Augusta in 91.  Bauxite in 96.  Featherston's teams were pretty darn salty.

Calpreps does "Dynasty Ratings" but their numbers only go back to 2003. Not perfect, but interesting to see some type of historical computer system's input:

Top Ten 2A Programs Since 2003 According to Calpreps (Programs are 2A right now)
1. Rison
2. Bearden
3. Earle
4. Mount Ida
5. Camden Harmony Grove
6. Des Arc
7. Danville
8. Carlisle
9. Hazen
10. Lavaca

Ventman

The 6 and 8 are represented well in that timeframe.

little surprised to see lavaca on that list. Since 2001 have never won over 9 games

Lavacas numbers are skewed by spending 2006-2015 in 3a...
