Trot Nixon with 42 HR's?  lol!!!

Good stuff.  Those pitching numbers look like typical MVP '04 and '05 pitching numbers.

What year are you in?

Simon Pond (an actual real player) was so good on that game. I called him up to the Sox and used him some as a pinch hitter and backup. Good player.

He's only got 16. You looked at RBI.

The thing that ticks me off about the pitching is that I guess I didn't use my SP enough in spring training and they have Webb throwing an 89 mph 4 seamer. That's where it tops out and it pisses me off.

I think this is my 3rd season in the game. Only played half of the AAA season last year and every game so far this one.

Pond did much better last season. He's getting old (30 on the game I think) but I might have him up for a season or 2 to replace Mueller.

I plan on letting Schilling walk after this season and I figure Womack will retire so I can bring Hinch up. I also plan on bringing up Lee Jones and McCracken for SP next year. I have 2 guys in AA I can move up to AAA next season and they will be fine.

What about the dude that was in the Sox system that was supposed to be Hanley Ramirez?  Where's he?

LOL, he's my 2 hole hitter for the Bo Sox, Matt Derksen. An added bonus is he's a switch hitter.

I might go back later and add in double and triples for hitters (doubles for everyone, triples mainly for Derksen and Pierre as they have 98 and 94 speed respectively) and CG's and SO's for pitchers.

SMC

I love that Bill Mueller and Tony Womack are still kicking it with the big league club.

And that pitching staff, wow. Matt Clement and Wade Miller, both those guys have been out of the league a while.

Alan Embree as the AAA closer, while Scott Williamson is closing the door for the Sox. Classic.

RHS

Doug Mirabelli got put in AA when I optomized rosters, LOL.

Wade Miller led the major in CG's, SO's, W's and K's last year I think on his way to some Cy Young honors.

Wade Miller winning the Cy Young. Holy Moses.

RHS

Well when you give me control of anyone, I can do anything. He was gonna lose out to Curt Schilling until Schilling gave up like 4 runs in a game and his ERA ballooned to like .98, at which point Miller was .25 better.

RBI: Derksen 2 (44), Pujols 4 (78), Kearns (6), Nixon (43)

SB Derksen (51), Pierre 2 (36)

My rant comes from the fact that I got screwed out of a hit for Derksen. Pierre was on 2nd after stealing it when Derksen came up and hit ball through the hole between 3B and SS. I was about to send Pierre home but then figured he'd be gunned out so I stayed, but the LF booted the ball and they charged him with an error (don't know why since nothing unusual happened. I didn't score or move up a bag.) Next time Derksen is up I looked and it says "Runner 3rd out" for his at bat. It's nothing major, it's just that I've probably been screwed out of 30 or so hits in the season because of that type of garbage. I even get it when I have a successful bunt for a hit. It's the only gripe I have about the game really.

msubulldogs21

Yeah, I used to hate that when you would get a clean hit and the OF would bobble the ball temporarily, and they give him an error. Ridiculous.

Also, Wade Miller was freaking dominant on MVP 05. Matt Clement as well. That was just a loaded video game rotation.

I know when I started this thread he was already hitting .419, but probably 2 weeks ago (game wise) he was around .387 and he's now up to .428. I've never hit .400 with anyone on my game for a season before and I've got half of one left so it'll be interesting to see if I can keep him up there.

Albert Pujols is one of the most dominating video game athletes of all-time.

SMC

Pujols obviously thrives because of the protection of Austin Kearns.

Just finished up a 3 game set with Baltimore and took all 3 games. Couple of dog fights in the first 2 and now the boys get a break since the All Star break is coming up.

Game 1

Baltimore: 2-8-0
Boston:    4-7-0

Baltimore:

Melvin Mora 1-4
Chaune Figgins 0-4
C Bale 2-4
Miguel Tejada 1-4, K
T Anderson 1-4, R, K
Jason Werth 1-4, R, RBI, double
S Cabrera 1-4, RBI, K, double
B Munoz 1-4
Larry Bigbie 0-3, K

Daniel Cabrera (L, 4-7) 6.1 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HR
Glover 1.2 IP, H, BB

Boston

Pierre 1-3, 2 R, RBI, BB, HR, SB
Derksen 0-3, BB, K, R
Pujols 2-2, R, 2 RBI, double, 2 IBB
Manny 2-4
Nixon 1-4, RBI, K

Womack 0-3

Schilling (W, 12-2) 7 IP, 2 R (both earned), 2 K

J Weaver 7 IP, 8 H, 3 R (2 earned), 5 BB, 5 K, HR

Varitek 1-3, BB, K
Womack 0-4, K

Miller (W, 15-0) CG, 6 H, 3 R (all earned), 12 K, 3 HR

Derksen won this one for me with a walk off single in the 9th. Pierre got on, stole second and then Derksen lined one up the middle. Pierre scored while the throw was cut off and my win streak continued.

Game 3

Baltimore: 0-2-2
Boston:    7-8-0

Baltimore:

Larry Bigbie 0-2, K
Javy Lopez 0-1

Sidney Ponson (L, 9-8) 3.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R (all earned), BB, 5 K, 2 HR
Hendrickson 4.1 IP, 2 H, R (earned), BB, 3 K, HR

Damon 0-3, 2 K
Hernandez 2-3, 2 R, double
Womack 1-2, R, 2 RBI, double

Wolf CG, SO, 2 H, 10 K

Ryan, Wolf is one of those guys that you wouldn't like to face (neither is Ponson with his big curve) because he's basically a junk pitcher. His fastball only tops out at 88, but his other pitches are a curve (more like a slurve), a slider, a knuckle curve (huge break) and a change.

I forgot in AAA that you can pretty much have like 7 game series, you just flip flop home and away, so I'm still playing Scranton/WB. Here are my last 2 road games, and my first home game against them.

Pawtucket:    2-8-0

Won this one on a walk off single by Maurer I think.

Game 2

Pawtucket:     9-14-1
Scranton/WB:  0-2-0
Pawtucket
Hinch 2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, HR, BB

Pond 1-4, R, RBI

Uribe, probably my best player, got injure sliding into 2nd trying to break up a double play and left with an inflamed elbow. He's out for 8 days so Vazquez will take his place, but bat lower in the lineup.

Game 3

Pawtucket: 2-5-0

Lewis 0-4, K
Jacobson 0-2, 2 BB, K
Hyzdu 0-3, BB, K

Moss (S, 1) 2 IP, H

This was the first AAA game I played after moving it up a level (thought I was already on All-Star, but was still on Pro. lol) Didn't notice much of a difference. He still threw out my faster guys out on a ball hit down the line where he was practically in the coaching box and he still made some BS diving catches.

Hyzdu did make a play that made me kind of yell out when he gunned a runner at home in the 3rd inning to keep a run off the board.

This was my first MLB game after kicking the level up a notch. It was a 4 game series against Baltimore (not 3) so this was the final game and then I hit the AS break. Will post standings then and you guys can laugh.

Baltimore: 1-8-0
Boston: 2-4-0

Boston
Pierre 0-4, K

One and the same as Josh said. On my game he's 36 so I figure he'll retire soon. His current status is unhappy because his last contract he signed had him as "MLB Situational."

RHS

I was locked in an epic pitcher's duel last night with the Paw Sox against Rochester.

Here are the SP lines:

ROC: Sanchez: 9 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 14 K, HR

PAW: McCracken: 9 IP7 H, 13 K

These are the series of events that happened in the 10th and 11th.

10th Inning:
Moss (Paw) gives up a single, strikes a batter out, gives up a double that scores a run, gives up a single to make it 1st and 3rd and then gets a DP on a line shot to third.

Sanchez actually came out to start the 10th and Simon Pond promptly took him deep to tie the game back up at one. Antonio Alfonseca then came in and got 3 straight outs to end the inning.

Bottom of the 11th:
Coffie starts out by drawing a walk and since he's as slow as a turtle (speed of 38) I PR with Hinch (94 speed) and stole 2nd. That made them IBB Timo Perez to make it 1st and 2nd with no outs. Bud Hammonds then came up and hit a ball to the third basemen that made him do one of those stumbling catches and he fell so everyone was safe. Pete Benson came up next, hit a chopper to the second basemen but his throw home was both late and wide as Hinch slid in for the winning run in an exciting game.

Paw Sox won, 2-1.

SMC

What an awesome finish. Love those kinds of rallies. We must have a close game disease going around cause everyone's got a story about a long pitchers duel lately.

bulldogs1159

Yea I didn't even post about the reliever for Marshal that came in both games throwing a 96 MPH cutter and a 73 MPH change. Not even adding in his slurve. All the runs I got against Marshall was against their starters.

RHS

The guy I went against last night in that game had like 94-95 heat, a 91 mph 2 seamer, a huge curver and a mid 78 mph change. Thankfully I was able to counter with my guy who throws 97. Any other game and I would have yanked him in the 7th or maybe as late as the 8th. I think when I pulle dhim his % was down to like 34.

We've all had close, extra inning games lately. Good stuff and I'll post my MLB games later.

AB™

Yeah. Not me. Wait until you see the scores from my first two games against the Blue Jays.

jbell96

Dang you guys, posting all this stuff has driven me to going home tonight and dusting off my old X-Box to play MVP & the College game.

I'm sure the wife is happy with us. lol

Good news, bad news on the old X-Box front. I fount NCAA MVP 2006, but I can't find MLB MVP baseball 2005 or any of my controllers. I'll have to look more in depth tomorrow.

I thought you played more regularly than that. Haha. I understand with the kid though.

Oh, I still play my 360 quite a bit, when my wife & baby go to bed around 8pm, but I haven't broke out the old X-Box in quite some time.

FInally finished my 4 game series witht he Yankees after the AS break.

Game 1:

BOS 6-8-1
NYY 4-11-1

Pierre 1-5, 5, 2 RBI, HR, K
Derksen 1-5, R, RBI, HR, K
Pujols 1-4, R, IBB
Ramirez 1-4, R, BB, K
Nixon 1-3, R, BB, K
Kearns 1-4, RBI, K
Mueller 1-3, RBI, BB, K
Varitek 0-2, R, RBI, 2 BB
Womack 1-4, K

Webb (W, 18-0) 7 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, BB, 5 K, HR
Wylie 1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER
Williamson (S, 26) 1 IP, H, K

Just like in real life, I ended the game by getting A-Rod to strike out looking.

Game 2:

BOS 6-14-0
NYY 4-9-0

Pierre 2-5, 2 R, RBI, 2 triples, K
Derksen 3-5, RBI, K, 4 SB
Pujols 2-3, R, RBI, BB
Ramirez 1-5, R, RBI, double
Nixon 1-5, RBI, K, double
Kearns 1-4, R, RBI, K, double
Mueller 1-3, BB
Varitek 1-4
Womack 2-4, R, RBI, K

Schilling (W, 13-2) 5 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, K
Alvarez .2 IP, 2 K
Wylie, 1.1 IP, ER, K, HR
Martinez (H, 1) .2 IP, K
Malaska (H, 1) .1 IP, K
Williamson (S, 27) 1 IP, H, ER, K, HR

Situational pitching FTW!!! Varitek hurt himself in this game sliding into 2nd base and is out for about 12 days.

Game 3:

BOS 7-12-0
NYY 0-6-0

Pierre 2-5, R, 2 K
Derksen 1-3, 2 R, 3 RBI, HR, 2 BB, 2 SB
Pujols 2-5, R, RBI, K, double
Ramirez 0-5, 3 K
Nixon 1-4, R, BB, 2 K
Smallenberg 2-5, R, RBI, K
Mueller 1-3, BB, K
Hernandez 1-4, RBI
Renteria 2-4, R, K, double

Miller (W, 16-0) 6 IP, 2 H, 7 K
Martinez (S, 3) 3 IP, 4 H, 3 K

This was the last game for Hernandez. After the game, Colorado offered me a trade I couldn't refuse.  They offered me a catcher for a catcher so I liked that part of it. The guy they offered was better all around in batting (better contact and power numbers vs RHP and LHP), a year younger, cheaper, had better fielding, arm strength and arm accuracy. I have no idea why they offered me the trade but I took it.

Game 4:

BOS 6-14-1
NYY 4-8-0

Pierre 1-5, R, 2 K
Derksen 1-5, R, RBI, K
Pujols 1-2, R, 3 BB
Ramirez 3-5, R, 2 RBI
Nixon 2-5, R, K
Kearns 3-4, 3 RBI, double, sac fly
Mueller 1-4, BB, 2 K
Miller 2-5, R, 2K (Red Sox debut)
Womack 0-4, K

Wolf (W, 18-0) 7 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 6 K
Wylie (H, 3) IP
Williamson (S, 28) IP, K

After I finish my series with Tampa Bay I'll post those results too. I've already come to the conclusion that they have the most SP that throw 100+ on this game since the first 2 guys both topped out at 101 and 102. The first guy had a 2 seamer and change to go with his heat and the second guy only had a splitter so he was easy to figure out.

RHS

I was in the middle of a good extra innings game last night when i went to get food and the power was off when I came back.

I got screwed in the first inning when I threw a man out at home for the 3rd out but the game called him safe to make the score 2-0. Next guy up pelted a 3 run blast to make it 5-0. A coupole of innings later I had a 2 run shot (Pond) and a solo homer (Lewis) to make it 5-3. Scored 2 more runs off of singles the next few innings and went into extras. Gary Sheffield led off with a homer in the top of the 12th to make it 6-5. In the bottom half I was able to coax a walk with Benson, who made a nice hustle play and went 1st to 3rd on a single by Uribe and then scored on a sac fly by Pond to tie it up at 6. Their manager got tossed in the 13th when they argued a stolen base by Hinch and at that point I went for food.

I played like 4 games last night and during every game I kept waiting for the power to cut off.  Luckily MLB 2K9 has the feature where you can save and quit a game in the middle of if and then load it up later and pick back up where you left off.  So I was saving after every 2 or 3 innings.  I was going to be hacked if I lost some of the HRs I hit with some guys last night if the power had cut off.  Especially the 3 HR game I had with Alex Gordon.

RHS

That's a sweet feature. Wish I'd have had it because I think I would have challenged my 17 or 18 inning game I had earlier on the game. I kept getting guys on base and getting them to 2nd and 3rd with one out and then I would pop out in foul territory or ground out to end the inning.

RHS

Completed my 3 games series with Tampa Bay. Nothing really dramatic in any of the games so I'll just post the 3 game totals.

Game 1
Bos 7-13-1
TB 2-8-0

Game 2
Bos 8-13-0
TB 3-7-0

Game 3
Bos 5-11-1
TB 1-5-1

I also completed Game 1 in my series with the White Sox and it was a great game that ended in the 13th on a Tony Womack walk off fielders choice, lol.

CWS 3-6-2
Bos 4-5-0

Pierre 0-5, K
Derksen 0-6, 3 K
Pujols 0-1, R, 5 BB (4 intentional)
Manny 0-6, 3 K
Mueller 1-2, R, 2 BB
Winn 0-1, K (brought in to pinch run and forgot I had him in the field)
Renteria 0-1, K (Replaced Winn after his one at bat)
Smallenberg 1-5, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB, HR, 2 K
Kearns 1-5, IBB, K
Miller 1-6, 3 K
Womack 1-6, RBI

W Miller 7 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 K, HR
Wylie .1 IP, K
Garcia .2 IP, K
Williamson (BS, 1) 4 IP, 3 H, e ER, 2 K, HR
Martinez (W, 2-0) 1 IP, H, K

HR: Smallenberg (8)
RBI: Smallenberg 3 (20), Womack (17)
SB: Smallenberg (6)
SH: Pierre (5)

It looked like I was going to wrap up a 2 run win with Williamson in and never even having allowed a run this season, but it wasn't to be as he gave up a 2 run bomb to Shea Hillenbrand in the 9th.

I didn't muster any life until the bottom of the 13th when Smallenberg drew a walk. With Kearns at the plate, I stole 2nd on a sweeping slider and then intentionally walked Kearns at that point trying to get a DP. Miller came up and hit a slow roller to 2nd and I figured they would try for the DP since Miller is somewhat slow, but they threw home instead thinking Smallenberg would try and score from 2nd (yeah right). So that loaded the bases for Womack with one out, the DP still in order with a drawn in infield and outfield. I grounded another to the second basemen and knew he'd go for the DP so I knew I'd score. My hopes rested on the legs of a 38 year old second basemen in his final years. Miller was out by a good bit, but the throw to first was a half step too late and I escaped with a win.

I jumped off the bed and gave a Tiger fist pump and shouted "All right!"

SMC

Awesome, Randy Winn played 3rd base for an inning.

I've been guilty of that a few times, once I said "why is my catcher left handed?" and then realized I had pinch run my backup CF for the catcher in the previous inning.

RHS

Yeah. One ball got hit at him and I was like "what in the world?!" and subbed him out since it was the 3rd out.

For the third game in a row I faced a pitcher with 100+ heat and a freaking huge, slow curve.

bulldogs1159

5 IBB to Albert? That would get old, and who the heck is Smallenberg again?

RHS

Well they only IBB Albert 4 times, but it still got old.

Smallenberg is one of the computer generated players on my team. Instead of rankings like you and Ryan have, all I have is a meter that fills up to kind of give me a guage on how good said player is. Smallenberg has like the 4th best meter on my game and he complains all the time about his PT. I've played him all over the place though when things get tight with injuries.

RHS

Yeah, just when you think one has it he falls behind in some catagories.

RHS

lulz.

I lost another player in AAA for the year with a torn right shoulder muscle sliding into 2nd....FEET FIRST!!! That brings the total in AAA for that injury up to 2.

Had to bring a guy up from AA and go sign someone to replace him on the Sea Dogs.

bulldogs1159

Wow you need to teach your guys how to slide lol.

RHS

When Derksen first came up it was weird watching him steal because his slide was like he would belly flop and then slide. Now it's more natural.

Have no idea how guys tear a shoulder muscle sliding feet first.
