Might as well get this started. Can not wait for this one. This could be the matchup to watch in Round 2.
Who y'all got?
Hazen by 21
what a 2nd round matchup. Not sure who will win this one. Could go either way
Hazen at home will be tough. Gurdon will be well prepared though.
Gurdon by 7 although I believe this will be a very tough game.
Not many games won on the road in the first round. it will be tough but i think from what I've seen gurdon will pull the upset
I noticed not a single 3 a school won on the road

Don't know much about Gordon, but if you ain't got speed you won't be in this game. I have a feeling Penn and Green are gonna run wild in this one. Swarm by 2 tds

Gurdon has more "Speed" than Keanu Reeves!
This should be a great game, could go either way, I'm a homer so Go-Devils by 7

Gurdon, players need to add l.e.d. lights to the helmets to see. ;D

Just win though, we will try to do the same and maybe Earle can to.

"Curb stompings" in round 2 are not often
When there is a talent gap like there will be in this game they do
I doubt gurdon will score enough too win but I would be shocked if hazen scores over 30 ...
Yeah couch coach, hazen does have a great offense. Defense is pretty salty too
Curb Stomp is bold statement young man
Gurdons D is legit .. I know hazens o is good that's why I said 30 .. they are large and physical and move well

Hey I hope your right.
Listen. I consider a curb stomp winning by 3+ touchdowns and controlling the game. Hazens offense will score touchdowns on anyone. Don't know much about Gurdon but heard their offense isn't top notch. Hazens D will control the game and shut down Gurdons offense. My guess 34-6 in favor of the home team
My bad scrapper I meant to ask what do you consider a curb stomping.
Gurdon is really good especially on the defensive side of the ball. Good line on both sides. Won't be a blowout but I take those go devils.
Hazen by 24.

Gurdon has a good team. Very good on defense. It will be very competitive!
It will be our first quality competition since playing DA. Finally get to watch a game with some athletes on both sides of the field.
Hazen and Gurdon both are real good teams, I got Hazen 14+,

Hard to believe considering Gurdon 2nd string and 9th grade played played majority of 2nd half!
It's hard to tell how good Hazen is because their schedule looks like a box of cup cakes. Gurdon will be hands down the best team Hazen has played.

Hazen seems to be a impressive squad. I've seen Gurdon play. Strong defense with a mediocre offense. Can't sleep on that offense though, they have some backs that can make plays. Still think Hazen will be to much though.
Hazen-28
Gurdon-10
With all those cupcakes we prepared for the winter weather. Now come get this butt whoopin and cue the two line layups drill👍🏼
Y'all hazen cats are some confident dudes.. it's almost hamptonish up in here ..
This is the only sport we're good at. You best believe I'm gonna be confident in the one sport we are proficient in!!
+1 there cap we've been atleast to the quarterfinals every year except once since 2014.
Gurdon by 10.
I don't know about over confident. We all pretty much know Hazens winning ways could end at any point. We just don't think Gurdon comes to Hazen and wins.
And they very well may not .. but they will certainly be one of the best teams you have played ! I'll take hazen in a close one . But yall will wake up Saturday morning knowing you played a football game .. not a pillow fight like most weeks
I've beeb saying it since last year. Hazen is a serious contender with a great stable of backs. I have seen a little of Gurdon, and they are a good scrappy ball team but I have to go with Hazen in this on.
Gurdon is better than they have been in years and they're not gonna just show up and lay down. I saw them beat Bearden and struggle with an offensively weak Bears team, though. With what we saw at CHG last year from Hazen's young team.......I'm going with the purple Hornets. Hazen is my pick to win 2A this year.
Last year at CHG that was by far the hardest game I'd ever played. I do believe hazen takes this one and goes and wins state.
Two very good teams.
I think Hazen is slightly tougher on defense. #52 for Hazen is their best player and leads the Hornets to the win.
Hazen 22 vs Gurdon 16

Only absolute thing about Friday night is this will be the first actual game the Hornets have played this year. Depth will rear its ugly head and it will be too late.
Was is really 0-0 vs Clarendon at the end of the 1st quarter?
yes. and a 28 point 2nd. your point is?
Go ahead and make your little point as to how that means Hazen is king of the world or whatever.
Gurdon travels extremely well and will be heard across town. Maybe we will spend enough at yalls concession stand for yall to buy some actual lights and real bleachers.

So are you calling 2 or 3 scores a blowout?
NO ... But one guy said it was Gona be a curp stomping... I even said I thought hazen would win.. because of gurdons lack of big play threats offensively .. but it will surely be a game that is decided in the 4th quarter ..

Does Gurdon pass the ball? If you strictly run, good luck. #52 is gonna eat you up all night. Best run stopper I've seen in many years for us👀
I'll bet $100 right now Batey has 150 yds rushing against Magazine IF HEALTHY!!! Probably a lot more than that. Nobody has contained him for an entire game and Magazine sure won't! The only way he doesn't torch Magazine is if they don't need him to carry the ball much to win or if he's not 100%. He got loose on Gurdon a few times and Mount Ida and that was the difference in the game. Those two teams have VERY GOOD Defense and he still got loose a few times.
Look, I know Hecktor plays Ida Friday night. I was only playing into how Hector and Hazen seem to think they have the best environments, teams, etc. and that they were already planning on meeting Foreman (who will win their side of the bracket) in little rock. SARCASM doesn't exist that far North I guess.
I know Hector and Hazen would finish 3rd and 4th in the 7 and probably the same in the 8. I also know like everybody outside of Wildcat land that Ida will end all those early December plans for Hector. See yall Friday night in Hazen where we will see the kids that are actually playing in this game decide it.
Hope to see a clean game with zero injuries to either side. Safe travels to ALL.

3rd and 4th....So Hector and Hazen are better than Mt Ida and Foreman?
I should have said 3rd OR 4th. And how does me saying that equate to them being better than either one of those teams? I give up. lol

A question about the environment at Hazen. I know they do not let people sit on the track anymore, so why is it allowed that people can stand on the field near the endzone? If I was a coach I would make sure that all fans would have to be off the field and behind the fencing. Plus no fans allowed onto the track.
I hope they have decent visitor bleachers. Gurdon will bring the whole dang town and just about as much noise as anyone. It was so sad to see literally 15 or 20 people in the stands for Clarendon. I mean those are your kids!

Quitman was sitting on the track, and i believe the standing in the endzone is up to the school, until someone starts mouthing at the refs or other players then the endzone will get cleared.

Why does the schedule matter if we haven't been beat? You should focus more on THIS Friday lol . It amazes me that we're in the PLAYOFFS talking about regular season. This is a new season entirely and different teams escalate and downgrade this time of the season every year. You better hope you've got all your shoes tied tight or your mighty Gurdon whatever y'all are will be falling right into basketball season before you can say tip-off.

Schedule matters because when you play weak competition and enter the playoffs you get hit in the mouth! I expect to see that Friday night!
If we get hit in the mouth then your boys will too don't doubt that. These boys have remnants of the '14 team and they'll possibly achieve more than we did. Y'all will be a good test for us. Hope y'all travel safe. Dont know who said it but we are allowed to stand in the back of the end zone and the track as long as officials will allow it.

How come Gurdon only scored 10 on Bearden?... if we play that whole game, Hornets are going to score 40 or 50.
Gurdon was rotating alot of players, Gurdon had 34 on the team and I bet 30 played in that game. Gurdon's best RB Threadgill had 12 carries on the season and didnt start until after the Bearden game. He now has over 900 yards rushing and 13 TDs since then. Gurdon had 6 different backs getting carries and there were multiple fumbles by Gurdon in that game due too many touching the ball. Gurdon now has figured out their rotation and have limited some playing time for guys. Gurdon has fumbled 1 time since conference started.

I seem to remember the speed argument when Gurdon played McCrory. There was zero chance Rogo was gonna be able to outrun Gurdon. Until he did.
Those two backs from Hazen can probably catch rabbits. Lol. And have fun tackling Toll. He's a beast
Too bad this isn't 4 years ago when Rogo and company were relevant. Using teams with entirely different rosters to judge how this year will be is ridiculous and a stretch. I wondered when B from C would show up. I also remember him , while we are at it, running his mouth for a week before Gurdon shut the door on the buffaloes a few years back.
Here to live vicariously through your more successful conference brothers Brian?
Lol. Not at all. The point IS....keep thinking no one can run with you. You'll see. Ha.

Are you not riding Foreman and Mount Idas success? When was the last time gurdon was playing football after Thanksgiving? That's a pretty good measuring stick.
Heck you are on here talking how good the seven is and your team hasn't made the playoffs the 2 seasons prior to this year, no state titles, no conference titles in 4 years. Geez.

I remember that game well. McCrory literally moved the ball 3 yard at a time all the way down the field. Gurdon had 4 offensive possessions all game. It was the fastest football game I've ever been to. It was slow, methodical, ball control and worked to perfection. Today I have a few friends that refer to a ball control offense as "Mcrorying them" lol
And I don't run my mouth. Unless you were being stupid. Then, yeah, I probably did.
It's good to see the 6 come together as 1 once playoffs begin. I was gonna be satisfied with a 2 TD win. Now I want to blow you guys out of the water.

G-high on here talking like gurdon is a powerhouse with playoff tradition, the only tradition I see is never winning 3 games in the playoffs, so that answers my question about playing after Thanksgiving.

That would be correct, hoping to change that. Gurdon now has a new HC in Coach Jackson.
Hopefully he can make some noise. His first 2 seasons were is 3a and had a crazy amount of injuries. I dont think Saban could have faired much better.

I have never once said Gurdon had playoff tradition. Who cares how many games a school has played after thanksgiving? When i realized we were playing Hazen I didnt say "Oh my God they have played a million games after turkey day we are toast!" Hazen wants to win, of course. Gurdon wants to win, of course. We come on here and say a lot of junk. None of which will decide the outcome of any game. Ever.

I would be willing to say that no throw Joe does the same. 8 min drives 3 or 4 yards at a time limiting Gurdons possessions until the dynamic duo breaks free and takes it to the house.

Talked to a couple of players from Clarendon last night. Said that hazen will absolutely curb stomp Gurdon. I'm gonna have to agree with them.
I wasn't there, but I kind of doubt that Gurdon pulled any spectacular plays on us. Starters probably didn't see much play time. It's hard to get a grasp of what a team is capable of in a lopsided game.
That said, I do believe that Hazen will win by 2 or 3 tds.
Quote from: G-HIGH on November 11, 2018, 01:05:20 pm
yes. and a 28 point 2nd. your point is?
The point is that Clarendon has the athletes but not the depth. That's how the majority of games went for us this year.
Quote from: G-HIGH on November 11, 2018, 12:53:59 pm
Absolutely huh? lol Clarendon couldn't handle Gurdons 9th graders. Im sure they know a little about curb stomping.
Only absolute thing about Friday night is this will be the first actual game the Hornets have played this year. Depth will rear its ugly head and it will be too late.
Oh how i'd love to be present for this game just to see the Hornets take it to y'all. Believe it or not the 6 does have some quality teams. The only thing that would cost Hazen this game is overconfidence...otherwise, it's not even close.
Quote from: G-HIGH on November 11, 2018, 01:12:45 pm
Gurdon travels extremely well and will be heard across town. Maybe we will spend enough at yalls concession stand for yall to buy some actual lights and real bleachers.
And the endzone will be FULL of Hazen fans as will the stands. I don't find the lights to be a problem but i'm not generally on the field.
Quote from: N2DEEP on November 11, 2018, 04:48:40 pm
A question about the environment at Hazen. I know they do not let people sit on the track anymore, so why is it allowed that people can stand on the field near the endzone? If I was a coach I would make sure that all fans would have to be off the field and behind the fencing. Plus no fans allowed onto the track.
I've wondered that as well...or for that matter allowing people to stand behind the goals in basketball. Hazen fans don't seem to cause any trouble down there though.
Quote from: G-HIGH on November 11, 2018, 05:05:21 pm
I hope they have decent visitor bleachers. Gurdon will bring the whole dang town and just about as much noise as anyone. It was so sad to see literally 15 or 20 people in the stands for Clarendon. I mean those are your kids!
Unfortunately football just doesn't bring many fans from Clarendon. Basketball however will pack the place.
Maybe when we're back on track and winning we'll bring more.
Quote from: couch-coach06 on November 11, 2018, 05:18:36 pm

No rules but there is etiquette lol. You really don't want to play when your team is on your end playing offense. However if it's defense you want to blare it. Other than that you play whenever you want.

I heard from someone down south that Gurdon is really the 4th best team from the 7 but that they over achieved this year. Said they beat mineral in a freaky way where they blocked two punts for tds and won by 10 and that the only reason they beat Ida was their back got hurt.

Ida's back played majority of the game and was shut down all but 1 trap play where they scored their 6 points. Gurdon did block punts but keep in mind that also takes away Gurdon possessions. Last time I checked there were 3 phases of the game!

Acctually they will probably do better than you think .. if they are as fast as you say I'm sure they will bust a few but I figure they will contain them more often than not
I guess we'll see Friday..
If they do beat them to the edge, will they be able to stop them on first contact?

Gurdon's running back has amazing speed from side line to side line, does not like to get hit!!! If he would make his cuts a little earlier he would have a least 1200 yards rushing.

That's a big difference from Gurdon's backs and Hazen's backs. They would just assume run you over than run away from you.

I'm not kidding .. if he gets loose I'm sure he would be dangerous but against foreman we just escorted him too the sideline pretty much Everytime ussually for a loss or no gain .. now we do have stud outside backers that get off blocks well and can run but that's pretty much what happened

the first half he was actually getting the edge quite frequently. the second he ran completely out of bounds LOL
If he don't like being hit he's gonna be in for a longggggg night lol. Our backs get better when they start getting hit (as long as it doesn't cause injury) lol
Your backs will enjoy the game then.. although I don't see much pad poping on that schedule of yours
Yeah but look at what happened against Earle and Des Arc. Des arc is top 10 and Earle may not be as good as years past so far when our backs have been challenged in early parts of games they come out later on and run twice as hard and actually look for contact. But against weaker teams like Brinkley and Marvell they would run out of bounds and avoid contact.

No amount of trash talk on here will keep either team from getting popped a few times, Hazen has only had to buckle down 3 times the season, the rest of the wins came pretty easy. Point is, these boys can buckle down when needed. DJ9
One thing for sure. No matter which one of you guys win Friday at least half of the trash talking on the 2-A board will be gone come Saturday morning.

Nah, the Gurdon posters will still be on every other thread that involves the 7 riding their coat tails lol
Just hope Hazen is ready for the onslaught of fake punts!! That seems to be our best offense. Im just glad for us to have a meaningful season and knowing the season isn't over when we loose to Prescott. I am proud of the way we have played so far this year. Seems like moving to AA was a good move for us.

Bearden is weak this year. The other 3 7 teams are good and 4a BH is 4a and would be daunting for any 2a team. Also, Gurdon was playing bad football going into that BH game. The rest of the 7 is awful.
Gurdon looked like they were on cruise against Clarendon , second team played most of second half . I watched Gurdon against Mt. Ida and if Gurdon plays like they did in that game Hazen will be challenged and I like Gurdon chances . Mt. ida is good and there main running back got punished and was limited at the end . Should be a close game, but because of home field I'm going with Hazen 14-10 .

G-high on here talking like gurdon is a powerhouse with playoff tradition, the only tradition I see is never winning 3 games in the playoffs, so that answers my question about playing after Thanksgiving.
Gurdon was in the AA finals in 1988 , lost to McGhee in
finals . The next year they lost to Boonville in
Semi- Finals by I think 1 point at Booneville . 1997'and 1998 Gurdon advanced by winning two games each year ( Shiloh Christian barely beat us, Floyd kid was QB)
next year Harding Academy beat Gurdon by 1 point ( Gurdon leading rusher suspended ) . Both teams win AA championships . Gurdon has tradition and numbers are up (30 plus kids before Freshmen moved up).

I haven't seen Hazen play but a little on Hudl but I think that Gurdon is going to surprise them!! I believe Gurdon's defense is a lot stronger than Hazen is giving them credit for and it if their not careful it could get them in trouble. However, I ultimately believe that Hazen's offense will just be too much for them. I think Hazen wins this one, 20-14.
But I'm rooting for the 7!!

And that is why I said that I believe, in the end, Hazen will come out on top. But there has been several on here that have said that Hazen will win by 2 or 3 scores, hence my statement that Gurdon is not getting enough credit.
Also, if Hazen goes on several 7 or 8 minute drives then literally, there won't be enough time for a win by two or three scores because Gurdon will get the ball too. Just one man's opinion!
I haven't really made a prediction because I truly have no clue as to who will win this game. The better teams in the 6 were able to slow Hazen down far below their average numbers. Gurdon has a top 2 or 3 2a defense so that is promising. The issue for Gurdon is their offense can get stagnant. And Hazen appears to also have a good defense. Hazen is playing at home, so the hyperbolic 'edge' has to be given to Hazen. I think the key to the game is if Gurdon holds Hazen's offense in the teens, Gurdon wins with their D. If Hazen scores into the mid 20's, Hazen pulls out the W.

I think if you hold hazen to 12 or less, you have a shot. if they get in the low teens, its slim, upper teens on up, hazen wins. hazen has a pretty salty defense as well.
You guys aren't going to score numerous times unless you have a competent passing game. Better get some hand warmers for your boys and start running routes.
Hazen has a better defense, statistically speaking.
hazens defense is giving up 9 points a game. 20 to cross county first game of the year, 18 to marrianna against the back ups back ups, outside that no one has scored more than twice, so that's why I say 12 and under is you bestest shot at the upset.

Gurdon can throw. Gurdon threw for around 150 yards against Foreman and if not for Batey it would of been much more. Bateys 4.4 speed was able to make up some room and he knocked the ball down at the last second on some deep balls.
Trying to look at defensive points per game is pointless
Gurdon. Gurdon starters gave up 33 to 4a Benton Harmoy grove, 26 to Foreman, 24 to MS , 8 to Bearden, 6 to MtIda
97 points total. The rest were trash time.
Starters average giving up roughly 9 points per game.
Gurdon also has a pretty good FG that can consistently knock them down from 25-30 yards out.

I think Hazen defense is key game if they hold Gurdon to two scores or less Hazen wins I don't think they Gurdon s offense will score more than that as long as Hazen takes care of ball and Gurdon doesn't play on a short field Hazen 30-12

There was more peiple at the des arc - hazen game this year than were at the Gurdon - Foreman game. I think G high just lives in a Gurdon bubble and doesn't understand there is football outside of there.

My bluff? How would i bluff about the amount of people Gurdon travels with? Dont get tired countin.
Hey I really hope your fans do travel well, it makes for a great night of football when both sides are loud!
As long as they travel home in worst spirits than they came im good with however many you bring.

You cant be so caught up on your gurdon self to think more people are gonna drive 2 hours to a playoff game, than are going to drive 15 minutes for rivalry games that have decades of history. But go ahead and believe what you want. It's ok. Im not saying you dont travel well, but you really have no idea how BIG these rivalries are

More people follow the gurdon football team, that hasn't won more than 2 playoff games since any kid on this team has been alive than come to a rivalry game that's been going on longer than you have been alive. I think I will just get up and hit my head on the wall. You just dont understand.

Ok ... I understand now. It is more feasible that more people follow winning and tradition than actually follow kids regardless of whether they are winning or losing. I have said it before and i will say it again. A team that has won 3 playoff games a year for 30 years can suck this year ... Just like a team that hasnt ever gotten over that hump can be good this year. Yall put so much faith in what groups of kids did 5 10 or 15 years ago as if it is helping the team that will run through the tunnel Friday night. Yall think all those teams here that went home after Round 2 are some kind of measuring stick for a team that none of those kids are a part of today.
We actually care about our kids, whether they win or lose and will follow them, in greater numbers than a lot of "traditional" greats, whether we are up or down.

C'man man, REALLY? Yes, you guys had a lot of fans at the Foreman game but close to being more? I don't think so!!
One thing I will say is your band played a lot!!!! I mean to a point that Foreman's band didn't get much time to play since its customary to allow the other band to quit playing before you start up. There were actually a LOT of our fans that were really ticked off that you guys wouldn't stop playing long enough for our band to play. Our band was trying to be polite and not play but it just got out of hand. But everyone gets on here to talk football, right? Who cares about the band, right? LOL
As for the trash talk on here from both sides........That's HILARIOUS!!

How many blown calls that went against Gurdon so far? 10? Maybe 15?
The refs are horrible that's the only reason we're up two scores with the ball back 😂

Hazen's Defense was on fire tonight, Gurdon may have had 100 yards of total offense.
Hazen is good. They are probably the most complete team in 2a. Running backs have good size and run hard. #10 is tough to bring down. Entire OL seems to be identical in size. Not too big, but big and physical enough. Defense is salty. Good luck vs Hampton.
Hazen, your team is the real deal no doubt about it. Crying shame those two backs aren't getting waaay more publicity than they already are ... not to mention Toll among others. Very well coached in every aspect. I told someone I would swallow all the crow and brothers I got a plate full and seconds coming. It is what it is. This is my official Eat Crow post. We got walloped!
The End!
Hazen is a good solid team. Toll is a elite Talent!
Nice size line that will hit you in the mouth.
I was most impressed by the RBs. They ran hard, broke arm tackles.
Gurdon offense needs to go back to the drawing board.
Gurdons future is bright. Half of the starters on both sides of the ball are sophomores.
Best of luck! On to round ball :P

Thanks to the Hazen fan who helped push me out the mud!
First i would like to Congratulate Gurdon on a successful season that ended last night with a tough loss. With that being said Hazen absolutely dominated this game in every aspect. This Hazen D, pitched a shut out and held Gurdon to 8 total offensive yards. This, i would say was the best team that Gurdon has played all year...Any how congrats Go-Devil's and keep on rolling Swarm...
8 yards? Impressive!

A lot folks talk about Hazens offense and fail to recognize they have stingy defense! Maybe because it's such a weak conference they are in! lol

Yea I'm not positive but d.a.'s raggedy offense probably only managed 400 or so last night
It's obvious y'all need help on that side of the ball. I gueess we can only pray to be as good of a conference as the 7 and 8...

Probably gave up 250
Just curious, did Gurdon know they played Hazen this past Friday or did they get it mixed up and thinking it was this Friday. I really figured it would of been a much better game. Both good teams for getting to this stage and many props to Hazen......Wow!!

Gurdon got popped in the mouth first play of the game and unraveled from there. Hazen is the best team Gurdon has played this season, but Gurdon is not as bad as the final score indicates. Players were arguing and screaming at one another and things really unraveled on them. Young team with 12 sophomore starters can create the perfect storm.

I saw the unraveling happen to des arc last season, young, no leadership, and cancer in the locker room. basically same team this year, way better team.
youth is something you can overcome if it matures.

Don't feel bad Hampton is going to see what that feels like Friday night. About 9:15 there going to be some long faces and sad singing on the way home for them

Arguing on a team is cancer, maybe they can overcome that and sounds like maybe some talent for coming years?

I think the team is going to be typical Gurdon moving forward, conference contender that will lose to an elite team in the playoffs. Gurdon is losing more size than they are gaining, but will not be short of skill players. Due to that, size will have to play both ways more than the usual amount they like to do; which could be a good thing. The one way playing of linemen was getting borderline too cute, and it showed its head vs Hazen.
