What teams have the most state championships?

LJ06

In 4A or just in general? If just 4A, I'd say McGehee and Nashville

toobad4u993

Just 4a. Was wonderin who all besides mcgehee had more than 5

Busted

Shiloh Christian has 6- '98, '99, '01, '06, '08, '09

I dont think but maybe two of those were 4A championships, but you can go ahead and add another to the list for this year.

Hootie

A school from Little Rock has the most. Atleast that's the last I remember.

I was until I realized he said 4A only. In that case, McGehee only has one 4A trophy I believe. The rest are 3A or lower. Don't hold me to it though. I'm sure Oldman knows.

LJ06

Yeah oldman has em listed on his signature on his profile.

Jimbo Morphis

mcgehee has 8. the ones that were 3a were when there was only 5 classifications.

Coltfan2005

Nashville has 47, if they can count the ones the sports writer from the newspaper gave them!

Big Time

I dont know how many Nashville has I know that the three years when I attended we won 9 I think, only three in football though.

Nashville has four that are recognized by the AAA.

To answer the question of the OP it is McGehee with 8.

You're right.  This is the article that I have on that 1967 state champhionship from our Nashville News:

   SCRAPPERS GET NO. 1 RATING
Nashville's Scrappers won top honors in Class A football for 1967.
The Scrappers were ranked No. 1 in the coaches' poll conducted by the United Press International, and also in the Arkansas Gazette's ratings.
The Nashville club held close to the top in both ratings after a tough 19-14 loss to strong Magnolia of Class AA.  Fordyce and Berryville, with undefeated records, moved ahead of the Scrappers.
Came the closing week for most schoolboy teams and Nashville won decisively 37—18 over a strong Lakeside club, District 5—A champions, and both Fordyce and Berryville were upset.

AAA recognizes the teams that actually went through a playoff and won the championship. Five fat sports reporters and one 95 year old editor can not "pick" a champion, neither can coaches. that's the problem with the NCAA now.

I'm sure they're up for any suggestions on a 119-team based bracket for playoffs... can't just take the top seed from each conference, the whole scheme would be totally biased.

1970 was the first year to win the state title.  All of the other ones are mythical.  McGehee has 6, Nashville has 4.  Shiloh has 4 since the split.

Jimbo Morphis

aaa shows mcgehee's in 1969 but not 1966. are you sure 1970 was the first year?

GeorgeWBush

I'm like 78% sure.  If the AAA website has it on there in 1969 then you are right.  Can you find one earlier than that for any team?

From 1952 until 1968 there were no playoffs in Arkansas

Playoffs restarted for class AAA in 1968 (Springdale 19 Jacksonville 13). There were two divisions of AAA (East and West)
There were only 7 teams playing AAAA at that time (F.S. Southside, L.R. Hall, Pine Bluff, No. Little Rock, L.R. Central, L.R. Mann, and El Dorado. They were all in one conference

Playoffs started for Class A in 1969. (Mcgehee 24 Augusta 0). Other teams making the playoffs were Ashdown, Alma, Carlisle, Rison, Piggott, and Paris. Springdale 14 Jonesboro 0 for the AAA crown.

Playoffs started for class AA and B in 1970. Hot Springs were AAA champs, Stuttgart AA, Rison A, Magnet Cove B.

AAAAA was established in 1977 (9 teams with no playoffs—all in same conference) and AAAA was divided into 3 divisions (Central, East, West). Benton was AAAA champ.

Class AAAAA was abolished in 1983 and added into class AAAA which had gone to 4 divisions in 1981. The 83 AAAA champ was F.S. Southside.
